"But I wanted make a time bomb."

"Mobile phone," Kaumirran hears Bah whisper.  "Battery"

Glancing at him, she sees him making either an obscene fapping gesture, or a knife-stabbing-battery pantomime.

"Sooner would be better."

"Waddyadoin'?" the Major hisses at Kaumirran, as he grasps her wrist to twist her arm to hide the light from the screen in her jacket.  "No lights!  It'll give us away!"

While that is happening, she hears Bah start to insert his lock picks into the doorknob.  They immediately hear a click, followed by, after a pause, an "oh".

Bah says in measured tones, "it was unlocked," to no one in particular, as he swings the door open inside the building.

"Everyone, inside," the Major whispers in an authoritative tone.

Once inside, and the door shut, the Major pulls a flashlight out of his pocket, and rapidly flicks the light around both sides of the door.  Spotting the light switch, he flips it on.

As the overhead lights flicker to life, they are briefly blinded by the glare.  After a few blinks, their eyes adjust to the light level.

They can see a relatively spartan hangar with 6 VF-1 parked in GERWALK mode in two rows along the sides.  The VFs nearest the main door look to be in the best state of repair.  One of the two at the back is in the process of being stripped for maintenance (it is surrounded by rolling tool boxes and cabinets, and mechanics benches), and the one opposite it is in a fairly run down state, and looks like it's next in line for maintenance.

"Bah, secure the back door, Drakenstein, that door," he indicates the wall opposite the one they're standing near, "I'll take the front!"  He shouts at them.  Turning around to look in Kaumirran's direction while walking backwards, he adds, "everyone, barricade your door with something, too!"

He then turns around and trots to the right side of the front shutter.

Kaumirran sees a rolling tool cabinet to the left of the door.  It's got those locking wheels and a substantive weight to it.  Not a solid barrier, but it will definitely slow down anyone trying to come through that door.

After securing the hangar, the Major waves them over to him.  "Alright, the front four Valkyries look to be in the best state of repair.  We're taking those.  I've got that one," he points at the lead one on the left, which looks like it has just finished its maintenance cycle and is coming back into rotation, given its recently-washed appearance.

"Preflight your VFs, double check your fuel loads."  He pauses, "in your VF and the fuel in the packs on the back.  But don't.  Repeat: DO NOT start the engines.  We're going to be firing them up at the same time, as we'll be waking up everyone in this camp as soon as we do.

Any questions?"

OOC:  I am feeling a little better now. Sorry for the wait.

"Mobile phone," Kaumirran hears Bah whisper.  "Battery"

The sight of Bah making such a gesture caused Kaumirran to glare. It was not from the thought of the phone battery either. Sure, having a battery go boom in one's hand or, in some cases, leak acid would be bad, it was not as troubling as sexual gesture was to her.

"Stop it," she snapped quietly before slapping at his hand. "This is no time for reminiscing about your childhood." Some people had worse childhoods than others.

Once inside, and the door shut, the Major pulls a flashlight out of his pocket, and rapidly flicks the light around both sides of the door.  Spotting the light switch, he flips it on.

"Right. Because than is so much more discrete," the Meltran grumbled as the hanger's light flickered on. Complain about her phone and then going and doing something like that.

Then she noticed the tool chest. "Ooo, pretty." A smile stretched across her lips. She started off in that direction, her gait bordering on a prance. She unlocked its wheel and pushed it in front of the door. It was less to serve as a barrier and more to give her a chance to admire the chest's contents. She took the time to pocket a few of the more useful pieces before locking the wheels back in to place.

"Any questions?"

Kaumirran was returning to the rest of the team as she took in the instructions. Her eyes took in the four machines that they were apparently taking. She was more fond of the beat up ones, herself. They were damaged. She felt a kinship toward them. Unfortunately, those were the ones being left behind. Well, she could still take the worst of the four that were going and show it a little love. Sometimes a gentle touch could make one shine.

"If you want to give me two minutes I could disable the others," she suggested, finally looking back to her teammates. She could not fully disable them under such a time constraint but she could snip a wire here and there to keep the computer systems from booting up. It would make flying them a bother if nothing else.

"Right. Because than is so much more discrete,"

"Huh?" snorts Mr. D.  "What are you going on about?  See," he says, indicating the hangar interior.  "No open doors, and no windows."

He pauses, thinking over things, "or weren't you paying attention when we were casing this joint?"  He adds a wink, and then trots off to check the door that the Major had just ordered him to do.

...

The tool chest is padlocked, but its nothing that a swift whack from the butt of her gun can deal with.  Inside, she finds some well used -but loved- tools.  Most of them are common pieces, but she knows the more rare and useful ones, and pockets a few of those.

"If you want to give me two minutes I could disable the others."

"Thanks, but our boss said, and I quote, 'chainsaw the cockpits of the VFs you don't take'."  He smiles wryly at that.

"No more questions?" he asks the team.

"Alrighty then, once we fire up the VFs and everything checks out, Kaumirran and Bah (he had picked the other VF at the front of the hangar), you're with me on the door.  We're going to cut the hinges along the top row of the shutter with the chainsaws."  He indicates near the top of the shutter door, just below where the door frame would be.  "If it doesn't fall down on its own accord, we're going to body slam our way through."

He turns to Mr. D, who has an 'and what do I do?' expression, "D, you chainsaw the cockpits.  Nothing special, quick in and out."  The Major mimes an overhead stab into the cockpit with his arm.  "Then come help us at the door."

The Major turns to the rest of the team, "once we're outside, just wave the saws around a few times at their response team.  It should send them running for cover.  That's when we lift off, and punch out of here."

Bah asks, "which direction should we head in?"

The Major points up to the heavens.

Scrambling into the cockpits, they find the VFs extremely well used, with controls that are worn down to the point that the lettering on them is almost rubbed off.  The seats are starting to get threadbare, and there are more than a few oil stains on them, too (Kaumirran instantly notices that from their texture and colour, and odour in the cockpit).

Turning the electronics on, they find the VFs fuelled and ready to go.

Bah speaks first over the radio, "ready to light them up, sir."

He's quickly followed by Mr. D, "all topped up and ready to go."

"No open doors, and no windows."

"There are cracks!" Kaumirran countered a bit more vehemently that was necessary. Strictly speaking, it was not necessary at all. She just did so dislike being told what that her opinion was incorrect. She was better than that. She was better than Bah. She knew it and now he knew it, too.

"or weren't you paying attention when we were casing this joint?

"I was busy," she informed him, still a touch defensive. "Plotting the murder of those untrained, minimum wage security personnel." That sort of thing required the proper amount of attention.

"Thanks, but our boss said, and I quote, 'chainsaw the cockpits of the VFs you don't take'."

Kaumirran winced, her breath drawing in as a hiss. She hated the idea of such an extreme amount of vandalism. "What did those lovable beauties do to deserve that?" The comment was not directed at anyone in particular. She did not expect that it was get a response, either; she was merely verbalizing her own discomfort. Exploding security guards was far more acceptable than murdering a perfectly good cockpit. A lot work went in to those things. It was just wrong.

Scrambling into the cockpits, they find the VFs extremely well used

Settling in to the cockpit of her chosen machine, Kaumirran looked over its console. With the modifications to the exterior of the craft, it would help to take a moment to get to know any changes to the controls. She noted the faded lettering. Her thumb brushed over the worn flight yoke. This baby had a story. When she had the time to listen, she would enjoy coaxing it out.

For the moment, she keyed on the electrical system. She ran it through the quick preflight diagnostic. Afterward, she looked over the shoulder as she tried out the flaps. The tail fins were more difficult to see with the boosters situated between them and herself. She was going to have to accept that what she could was good enough.

Kaumirran took the helmet and pulled it on ((provided that there was one)). She adjusted the microphone over her purplish lips. Keying on the short-range radio, she purred, "It smells like home in here."

"What did those lovable beauties do to deserve that?"

The Major shrugged, and asides, "the guy who owns them ripped off our boss or something."

"It smells like home in here."

"Roger, light them up boys," promptly replies the major.

In moments, the hanger reverberates with the sound of thermonuclear turbine engines.  The cacophony is surely loud enough to wake up Mr. Yanagi and his wife, a few klicks away.  And anyone closer.

In moments, they have enough power to transform from GERWALK to Battroid, and start working on the door, and shredding the cockpits.

In moments, they cut through the hinges, and the rest of the door falls along its rails to land in a pile on the floor.  For someone outside of a vehicle, it's a significant hurdle to cross.  For the Valkyries, it's a mere step.

Outside, men carrying flashlights are running toward the hangar.  All of them stop in their tracks when they see the four Valkyries exciting the building.  They turn and run for shelter when the Major wildly swings one of the chainsaws in their direction.

A few quickly find cover and start firing their auto pistols at the VFs.  With the Energy Conversion Armour activated, the bullets ricochet off the outside of the Valkyries, chipping the already heavily chipped paint a little bit more.

The Major radios, "take off, before they go and get their anti-material rifles."

Moments later, his VF-1 leaps skyward, transforms to GERWALK, and starts accelerating over the hills to gain lift.  Seconds later, it transforms to fighter, and he points the nose skywards and opens up the throttles.  The rocket boosters fire, shoving him roughly into the back of his seat as the VF rapidly goes supersonic, and eventually, hypersonic.

Once the cut had been folded down, Kaumirran stepped her valkyrie over it along with the rest of the crew. They were greeted by the rent-a-cops that had come to see what all of the racket was. While some of the others used the chainsaws to try to intimidate the guards, she switched her ride back in to Gerwalk mode. She made sure to keep the blast shield down; she did not need any of the small arms to put cracks in her windshield and the camera system would serve her eyes just as well for as little as she needed them. Kaumirran nudged the thrust up a touch, gaining just a wee bit of height in the process. That was more of a side-effect. Her actual intent had been to coat the ground with the engine’s flame. In her experience people had a tendency to shy away from nuclear fire.

She spun once in a circle, spreading the fire around. Then she pushed the thrust higher, accelerating after her retreating associates. When she had built up enough power, Kaumirran switched the machine to fighter configuration. The valkyrie dipped as she engines repositioned themselves but then quickly lurched skyward. She keyed open the blast shield now that she had put enough distance between herself and the ground-locked security personnel. Once that was done, she activated the top-mounted boosters. The added thrust pushed her back in to her seat.

Kaumirran frequently flicked her gaze from the view outside to the instrument panel and back again. Through the cockpit window she kept an eye on her team. From the panel she looked for any sign of the carrier craft they were supposed to meet up with. Also for any less desirable blips. There was always a possibility that the security force had friends up there as well and she would rather not be surprised by them should they make an appearance.

Kaumirran was keeping pace with the team.  They weren't flying in close formation like a polished display flight, but neither were they flying sloppily all over the place.  For all her misgivings, Bah and Mr. D were competent military pilots.  Perhaps unimaginative, but competent.

Scanning her sensor readouts, she sees nothing other then her teammates in her VF-1's forward hemisphere.  If the ship they are rendezvousing with is within radar range, its not showing up.

The Major's voice angrily crackles over the radio, "turn off your goddamn radar!"  It's unclear who he's talking to.  "Radio silence, too!"  He grumpily adds.

With her radar off, Kaumirran's AWG-20 can passively pick up other signals.  There's a strong search or targeting radar coming from just under the radar's detection hemisphere to the 'left'.  The frequency indicates that its from an earlier model.  Given their prevalence in combat aircraft roles, its most likely coming from an earlier model Variable Fighter.

The affect is akin to a flashlight seen from great distance - other than giving the general position, speed, and direction of travel of the user away, it reveals nothing to either party.

Kaumirran flinched at the bark in her ear. She had been expecting more of an external indication that someone was out there. The voice was far too close. It caught her off-guard. But she was not scared. She was brave. Totally brave. No, she was not scared at all. Not even a little bit. Judgmental Jerks, all of them. At least they were in her head.

She keyed off the active sensors. She was not particularly fond of hiding. Not hiding in the traditional sense, anyway. She preferred to disappear in to a crowd. Being out in the open with only a handful of other people was more unnerving that she would have preferred.

The little bit of nothing that came in on the passive scans drew her attention away from her own feelings of insecurity. She considered warning the others but the old man had been rather insistent that she keep her trap shut. She had nothing helpful to report, in any case. The passive sensors did a poor job of being descriptive.

Kaumirran tilted the flight stick, rolling the Valkyrie to the left. She raised her head 'up' to see if she could spot the source of the signal. The chances were not very good with just the bare eye. She could have focused one the camera in that direction but that would have risked the infrared beam being noticed. If someone were to be targeted for being nosy, she preferred that it be one of the others.

The search radar from the "left" doesn't change over the next minute, as the team transitions from the stratosphere to outer space and low orbit.  The Major doesn't change course to level off in orbit, and they continue toward a higher orbit.

There is a bright flash somewhat to the "right" of overhead.  Kaumirran can see a black dot appear in the centre of it, just before it starts rapidly fading away.

Moments later, a powerful ground based search radar illuminates them - more specifically, the flight is in the path of the radar as it is aimed at the bright flash.

The Major's voice crackles over the radio, "that's our ride, boys!  Keep up with me, as this is going to be a hot pick-up!  Things will get really mucked up if we don't match their speed and approach vector!"

Mr. D calls over the radio with a slightly panicked voice, "sir!  Radar from the planet!"

"Don't worry about the Noran defenders getting a fix on us!", gleeful retorts the Major.  "They're either going to bug out when they see our ride, or start lobbing their big missiles at us!"  Kaumirran notes a faintly sadistic glimmer in the Major's eye over the com screen as he finishes, with the corners of his mouth just starting to turn up in a smirk.

Mr. D lets out a whine like John Candy's Barf does in Spaceballs.

The black dot that appeared earlier has grown quite large as it quickly approaches.  The Major was right - it is going to be a bit tricky to meet up with it and match its speed.

Kaumirran then realizes that it has the silhouette of a Zentradi Thuveral Salan Battleship.  About this time, the Major starts angling his trajectory away from the approaching battleship, to align their approach vector and velocity with its.

Kaumirran’s attention was drawn from the speck by the arrival of the starship. She rolled the fighter back over, realigning it with the rest of the team. They were not going to match the speed of a battleship unless it wanted them to. She was going to assume that it did. There was always the possibility that it was not there because it liked them, of course. What were the odds of that, though? The Major was just such a friendly guy.

Her eyes skimmed the hull of the vessel as they powered toward it. She knew what it was. She knew the original interior layout and its capabilities. Whether or not she had ever been on one before was irrelevant. She knew the ship in much the same way that she knew how to stand or the words of her native tongue. She had know it before her eyes had first glimpsed light.

Speaking of light, her board lit up with the focused scan that beamed across her fuselage. “I think that they know where we are,” she said in to the microphone near her lips. No point in remaining silent now. “As a side note, you know that we are being followed, right? A little friend back at seven o’clock.”

When Kaumirran visually scanned the hull of the approaching Zentradi Destroyer, she quickly realized a couple of things: it was moderately to heavily damaged in the forward half - implying that the ship wouldn't be able to survive a few well placed shots there - and the engine sections were basically new.  Whether they were newly produced, or undamaged ones taken from a ship in even worse disrepair was unclear, but the differences in paint colour, and lack of damage and accumulated grime from use, indicated that they were recently grafted onto the ship.

Setting Image (colours are not indicative of ship's colour scheme.  Its a more burnt shade of the Zentraadi green): http://studiootaking.deviantart.com/art/The-Hamekahame-654259245

The ship was slowing as their team accelerated toward that keyhole in space where they would meet up.

“I think that they know where we are.  As a side note, you know that we are being followed, right?  A little friend back at seven o’clock.”

The Major grunts, "on top of it," and then presses a key on his MFD.  Instantly control data streaming from the battleship appears on Kaumirran's and the others' radar screens.  In addition to the approach vectors and other telemetry important for their landing on the ship, the 'little friend' Kaumirran pointed out is clearly displayed.  It's a flight of 8 VF-4 moving to intercept them.  They are over 400 km away - still too far away to be a concern.

The ground radar switches from search to targeting mode, and almost immediately, a missile attack warning starts flashing in the control data from the battleship.  Moments later, 6 large missiles are indicated as having been launched from the surface of Nora, near Phej.  They quickly accelerate to hypersonic speeds, and rapidly exit Nora's atmosphere.

Nonchalantly, the Major radios the team, "alright, about the ship.  There are two hard and fast rules on it: obey and respect the owner.  He's also the captain," he adds in a by-the-way tone.  "And don't piss off the Zentraadi that came with the ship.  You break either of those rules, you're going to find yourself pushed out the nearest airlock.  Understood?"

Mr. D nervously replies, "uh, yeah."  He appears to be more concerned with the approaching threat, and sweat can be seen forming on his brow.

"Yup," aloofly replies Bah.  His eyes are also fixed on the telemetry displayed on his MFDs, though he's much cooler about it than Mr. D.

A no-go zone on either side and behind the team flashes up on the C&C data from the battleship.  Moments later, a pair of gun turrets on the forward underside of the battleship start firing at the rapidly approaching missiles.

Kaumirran grimaced as she took in the rescue vessel. Half-good, half-trash. It was a sad sight to behold. "And who should we blame for letting it fall in to disrepair?" she asked over the comm. It probably was not the wisest comment to make given that the ship was her best chance to remain Not-Dead. Still, it was a little offensive that someone had let something designed to survive a hundred millennia wind up like that.

She winced when the cannons lit up. If the power conduits in that forward section were in the same condition as the outer hull, they would not hold up to the stress of firing concentrated energy weapons for very long. She did not feel like being stranded on the world that she had just stolen from. She may not be able to talk her way out of it. She had a very good idea what happened to captured pirates. She preferred to see tomorrow.

"And don't piss off the Zentraadi that came with the ship. You break either of those rules, you're going to find yourself pushed out the nearest airlock.  Understood?""

Andi would have said that those were her peeps. Kaumirran did not hold such a gracious opinion on Zentraedi. They were almost her race, but not quite. Males were more along the line of the inbred, redneck variant of her species. Actually, she reflected, they were for any species.

She opted to leave her thought to herself. She did comment on being thrown out of the airlock, though. “That sounds like it would be mildly unpleasant,” she told her comrades. Her eyes glance at the information on her display. She hoped that the incoming fighters did not have a decent loadout. She did not want to be in the middle of a gunfight with only a chainsaw to defend herself. She only had so many living shields that she could throw between herself and a missile barrage. “I get nasty tan lines from unshielded rays. I look like a bisected kiwi.”

Almost immediately, the shots from the Zentradi Battleship's beam turrets hit and destroy one of the incoming hypersonic missiles.

"And who should we blame for letting it fall in to disrepair?"

"Eh?," Major Andurven responds distractedly.  On the MFD video screen, he can be seen craning his neck to get a good look at the underside of 'their' ship.  "The Hamekahame is actually much better now than it was when Captain Alakai found it.  You can thank the Pertahanan that were living in it for those improvements."

The gun turrets shoot down another two of the hypersonic missiles.

The hatch under the forward dorsal hangar is now directly overhead of their VFs, and the stolen VF flight and ship have matching speeds.  The hatch begins opening.

"That sounds like it would be mildly unpleasant"

"Eh?" Andurven responds distractedly.  There is silence from the other two.  They may be in awe at the scope of the damage, or silent from fear of the rapidly approaching anti-ship missiles from the surface.

The Major continues, "follow me in.  Transform and land in GERWALK once we're inside."

The Major's Valkyrie neatly jets upwards into the open hatch, and disappears into the dark gloom inside.  He's followed by the other two.

There are another pair of flashes, as two more of the hypersonic missiles are hit by beams from the turrets, and explode.  Kaumirran follows the others inside the hatch.

Just as she disappears inside, there is a flash somewhere behind her, and the entire ship vibrates around her - a missile has gotten through the air defences and hit somewhere behind where they are landing.  The dim lights inside the hangar flicker on and off a couple of times, before staying on.
