Elpis Faction.
Irmuska Star System.
The Raimonds settlement on Andis.

Björn hadn't set out to end up there. In his travels to find a better bottle to end up at the bottom of and to get as far away from NUNS, he had drifted into the M45-03 Sector. Which wasn't far enough, as NUNS was increasing its activity in the sector after the Fold Anomaly started to dissipate, and there was a Fold Quartz mining boom in the sector. So, he crossed the border into the nearest part of the Zentrādi Control Zone: the Elpis Faction.

He chose Andis, as it was known as the bread basket of the Elpis controlled territory, and their usually ruthless and oppressive control over colonies was quite lax there. The fact that Andis was mostly rural and had limited modern development (extremely limited internet, no connect to the Galaxy Network), also played into Björn's choice to travel there.

As costs and the pace of life were too high in Melanija –the capital city– he drifted to one of the outlining, secondary cities: Raimonds. It also offered better employment prospects, as he was able to use his piloting skills on the farming machines. The wages for potato farming were a pittance compared to a NUNS pilot's salary, but it paid enough for a dingy place to sleep, and a steady stream of booze to battle his person demons.

Björn's ability to speak Zentrādi was also helpful -Andis being a Zentrādi controlled world in the Zentrādi Control Zone- and he was able to pass himself off as a mixed, or half-breed Zentrādi. For the most part, nobody cared beyond that. However, he let slip yesterday during a night out drinking at the local tavern to Engrish, a 'coworker' at the potato farm that Björn is presently employed at, that he is 100% human. Engrish was too drunk at the time to react in any meaningful way, but he has been harassing Björn at work all day with insults that invariably started with the local dialect's pejorative for Earthlings: "hoo-mon".

With the full effects of a hangover still on him, Björn was heading back to the tavern after work, when Engrish, and his flunky, Worsh, stopped him in a narrow street.

"Hoo-mon," Engrish says, blocking Björn's way. "We don't like yer kind here. I'm going to take ya in to the police for the reward for hoo-mon scum!"

With that, Engrish swings mightily at Björn's gut. He follows up with another aimed at Björn's face.

Actions
1 punch Björn's stomach
2 punch Björn's face

"We don't like yer kind here. I'm going to take ya in to the police for a reward!"

Worsh punctuates Engrish's 'speech' with supportive comments like, "Yeah," and "Hoo-mon scum!"

As Engrish moves in to punch, Worsh steps back, and readies the lasso that he's brought with him. Being extremely thin, and no where near as tall as the big and fat Engrish, Worsh is happy to watch from the sidelines.

However, he gets ready to throw the lasso to catch Björn, if he attempts to run away. He heckles Björn, "don't you try to run, wimpy hoo-mon scum!

Actions:
1 ready lasso, and watch fight from a safe distance (more than 3 m away)
2 catch Björn in the lasso if he runs. Otherwise, stand, watch, and heckle.

Björn was on his way to the usual shady pub where he spends most of his evenings in the last weeks, his head with the customary headache that accompanied his days until dinner when he could drown it out with his alcohol of choice, the cheapest one.

Surprisingly it had been quite around him for some time and nothing had happened, until yesterday evening. It had been long overdue for him to screw up in a way or another, and as usual it was due to his drinking, but he doesn’t really care anyways. Troubles had a knack for catching up to him and this time they did in the form of Engrish blocking his way.

"Get out of the way Engrish" he tells him with his accented Zentradi.

"We don't like yer kind here. I'm going to take ya in to the police for a reward!"

And with that a punch was flying towards him. It had been some time since he last was in a brawl, but years of training and repetition didn't simply fly out the window, so the former CO dodges the incoming swings off to one side. As he regains balance his body falls back into a semblance of guard stance and he releases a quick punch aimed at Engrish's Jaw

Action:
1 Dodge
2 Dodge
3 Punch aimed at Engrisch's Jaw

OOC: If I got it right I do have 3 HtH actions right? if only 2 I'd drop a Dodge :)

OOC: Regarding HtH actions, when in doubt, always refer to the Loadout and Status)

While it is true that your PC has 3 actions, as we use the Half Actions house rule, in this instance, your character has 2 actions. You can find the full description of it in Game & Setting Info (in Important Links: https://forum.macrossrpg.org/index.php?topic=2927.0 ).

The use is something like:
Player summary:
  • Action #1: punch, and step back to the right.
  • Action #2: kick dust into their eyes and run away

(4 actions in the standard rules).

In-game result
  • Action #1: punch, dodge (and/or parry) counter punch, dodge whip attack from lasso, step back to the right
  • Action #2: kick dust into air, dodge lunge, dodge lasso, run away

(7 to 8 actions in the standard rules).

While the Half Actions rule effect is negligible in fist fights (aside from speeding up the pace), it resolves a lot of the problems in mecha combat where PCs have 7 or 8 actions, and the battle progresses in ways that make the last 30% to 50% of their actions inapplicable.

... so, I'm going to interpret your character's intent as:
Actions:
1 move to one side and punch aimed at Engrish's Jaw
2 punch aimed at Engrish's Jaw

GM Post

Phase 1
Worsh steps backwards, and moves out of the way.

Björn's punch lands squarely in Engrish's jaw. It's a solid hit, that momentarily stuns Engrish. However, Engrish quickly recovers, and swings for Björn's stomach - and hits, knocking the wind out of him!

Phase 2
Worsh heckles Björn.

Björn's followup punch also lands squarely on Engrish's jaw. Engrish must be built like a freight train, as he's still able to take a swing at Engrish. This time, Engrish is able to parry the blow.

A few of the shoppers on the street have stopped, and are watching the fist-fight with interest. Thankfully, the ground isn't shaking with the heavy footfalls of giant-sized Zentrādi, as that would could only mean the approach of the Elpis security forces present on the planet. In that case, even if Björn wins the fight, he would still lose!

Worsh

Worsh snickers gleefully when Engrish punches Björn in the gut. "Yeah, eat it, hoo-man!"

He stops laughing, and his face collapses into a serious expression, when Björn successfully punches Engrish in the face -twice!- and blocks Engrish's follow-up punch.

Worsh takes an aggressive step forward, readying the lasso in his hands.

Actions:
1 catch Björn in the lasso if he runs. Otherwise, stand and watch
2 catch Björn in the lasso if he runs. Otherwise, stand and watch

Engrish

Engrish was stunned that Björn was fighting back so well! He was dead certain that humans could never fight as well as a pure-blood Zentrādi like him. It was completely unacceptable to his beliefs!

"Youse gonna pay, hoo-mon piece of poop!" he shouts at Björn, as he lunges at Björn with both arms to catch him in a bear hug. He wants to pin Björn with his left arm to his side, and pummel Björn's head with his right fist!

Actions:
1. grab and pin Björn
2. punch Björn in the head. If his bear hug didn't succeed: punch either Björn's face or gut

The blow to Björn's stomach pushed him somewhat back, fortunately he could parry the punch coming for his head and land his second one.

Wasn't that easier some years ago? he thought as he circled around his target so that Engrisch would cover him from Worsch's lasso, while spitting out some bile that had landed in his mouth from the punch.

The former captain glances towards the gathering curious passer-by's I better finish this as quick as possible, a crowd is never a good thing…. Why did I leave my knife in the apartment……and maybe this evening I should have one fewer drink…..if I get out of this

As soon as an opening presents itself Björn tries to feint towards the left before kicking Engrish in the side of his face with a karate style kick.

Actions:
1: Stay on the defensive dodging while positioning Engrish between himself and Worsch, land any opportunity punch.
2: Dodge/Feint to the left and karate kick Engrisch to the face.

Phase 1

Worsh continues his heckling. "Hoo-mon scum! Youse gonna become ground meat now!"

Engrish lunges at Björn, yelling, "Yousah gonna die now!", but misses by a wide margin. Perhaps Björn's hits are effecting him?

Björn takes advantage of Engrish being momentarily unbalanced, hits, and knocks him somewhat more off-balance.

The murmurs of "hoo-mon?" and "human!" can be heard coming from the gathering crowd.

Phase 2

Worsh picks up on the crowd, and tries to provoke them. "Yeah! He's a hoo-mon scum! Come to steal your lives away from ya!"

While not correct, he's not wrong in how some Zentrādi –especially those that have rejected the Unified Government– interpret the U.G.'s actions as taking the only livelihood they've known away from them.

Engrish recovers enough balance to take a swing at Björn's face. Björn can't react fast enough, and takes it on the jaw. It's a heavy blow. No permanent damage, but his face is going to be heavily bruised in the morning.

Björn's follow-up karate kick is successfully blocked by Engrish, who appears to be getting the upper hand in this fist fight.

The attention of the crowd starts to be drawn away from the fight. Björn overhears the murmurs, "they're coming!" and "hide!" as the outer edges of the crowd starts to dash away to safety.

About this time, Björn notes the ground starting to shake from the steady, heavy footfall of full-sized Zentrādi approaching!

Engrish & Worsh

Worsh notes the ground shaking, and appeals to Engrish in a panicked voice, "Engrish! If we get caught...!"

Engrish shakes an angry fist at Worsh, "you whiny weasel! If we capture the hoo-man, we'll get a reward!"

Worsh, momentarily steadies himself and grips the lasso tighter. However, as the footfalls get even closer, he panics, and bolts down the street, in the opposite direction of the approaching Zentrādi.

Engrish yells at Worsh's back, "coward!" He then returns his full concentration to Björn, "you're mine, hoo-man scum!" as he lunges with another punch aimed at Björn's face.

Worsh Actions:
1. watch the crowd, yell at Engrish
2. flee in panick

Engrish Actions:
1. step back a bit to fully recover balance and to shake off effects of hits so far. Yell at Worsh.
2. yell at Worsh, punch Björn in face

"See what you've done now!" Björn growls at Engrish as he shakes his head to clear it from the last blow he received "you had to go out of your way to ruin this beautiful day for everyone..."

I need to get out of here as fast as possible.....

The former Captain straightens somewhat with a surprised expression on his face and points behind his opponent "Oh crap, there they are!!"
Hoping that his super old trick would work on the not so bright looking Engrish, he throws a bunch to his face for good measure and then runs away in the opposite direction of the incoming full-sized Zentradi.

Actions:
1. Distract Engrisch by shouting and pointing, and punch him in the Face
2. Run away dodging any incoming attack

Phase 1

"See what you've done now! You had to go out of your way to ruin this beautiful day for everyone..."

Engrish smiles wickedly. "Just yers day!" he gloats. It's unclear if his bad grammar is due to Björn's punches, or if Engrish's spoken Zentrādi is literally that bad.

"Oh crap, there they are!!"

Reacting instinctively to Björn's emotion and gestures, Engrish's face dissolves from a confident grin to shock, as he turns to look in the direction Björn pointed. "Huh?," he mindlessly utters.

Björn takes advantage of the momentary distraction and swings mightily at Engrish's face. Engrish must have eyes in the back of his head, as his arm comes up and blocks Björn's fist!

Phase 2

Engrish's head whirls around with an angry scowl, and he follows up with a fist aimed at Björn's face. Björn blocks that, momentarily putting Engrish off balance.

Björn seizes the opportunity, and starts running away.

Engrish stumbles a half-step, giving Björn a healthy head start. Not that Engrish would be able to catch him, given that Engrish is significantly heavier than Björn.

"Hoo-mon scum!" Engrish yells at Björn's back, as Björn disappears around a corner onto the next dusty street.

The full-sized Zentrādi round the corner to the street where the fight took place. Engrish yells at them, "the hoo-man went that-a-way!" as he points in the direction that Björn fled in.

About half a block away, Björn knows that he won't be able to outrun the Zentrādi. Scanning the sides of the street for a place to hide, he instinctively dives down a narrow alley in the middle of the street. While the alley is wide enough for a pair of humans to walk side-by-side, it is a tight squeeze for a full-size Zentrādi.

Björn quickly finds a couple of garbage cans and a stack of flattened cardboard boxes in a zig-zag in the alley, and uses it to hide.

Crouching between the garbage cans and behind some cardboard, Björn feels the ground shaking from the rapid footfalls of the approaching full-size Zentrādi. Thankfully, they don't pause at the entrance to the alley. Instead, they continue down the street.

However, the footfalls remind him of a similar combat situation he was in, years ago. His squadron of VF-1 Valkyries had been dispatched to an abandoned town in a dust-bowl of a valley that had been invaded by a group of the Lost Zentrādi. During the initial part of the battle, his squadron had been overrun, and Björn ended up separated from them.

He had spent the next few minutes being hunted by a small group of Rigādo. During the running battle, while Björn had eliminated most of the Rigādo, he had also sustained significant damaged, and had used up all of his missiles and most of the bullets in his Valkyrie's GU-11.

The feeling of vulnerability he felt on Andis, hiding in the alley was the exact same as in that dusty city of collapsing buildings when a pair of Rigādo approached the 5-storey building he was hiding behind.

Björn's VF-1X (A-model head)
33% MDC remaining on everything
working ROV-20 and GU-11 (10 bullets remaining)

2 Rigādo
undamaged

OOC: apologies for the genre change. I also want to see how you do with mecha combat.
Your PC's combat stats can be found on the Loadout And Status spreadsheet (use Kaumirran's combat stats. He was much younger at the time). For convenience's sake: your PC has 4 actions (7 before the half-actions rule is applied).

Hopefully we can finish this up before you start travelling.

Crouching behind some trashcans Björn was breathing heavily, Running away from the full-size Zentradi after getting punched by Engrish really tired him, he definitely was in bad shape, and the headache wasn’t helping at all.
Slowly an old memory surfaced in his brain, something that hadn’t happened since some time… maybe the running and fighting cleared out enough of the booze….

Eriksson was breathing heavily but inside his VF-1X, back against a decrepit building, 2 remaining Regults where looking for him. Looking over his command panels the situation looks even grimmer..

“C’mon Björn, we’ve been in worse situations” he says inside his helmet to nobody in particular.
Looking down he notices some debris at the mouth of the alley the Regults where coming at him, this could be useful.
Björn waits until his feeling tells him that the first Regult is nearly at the end of the alley, he then kicks the debris towards his target hoping that it would be enough to distract them and allow him to land some hits before moving to the other side of the alley.

Actions:
1. Wait till he thinks the first Regult is close enough and then kick the debris in the Regults face
2. move out of cover and fire a 5 round burst at each of the Regults
3. Dodge
4: Dodge into cover on the other side of the alley

OOC: Welcome back! I hope that you had lots of fun!

Regarding the actions: "2. move out of cover and fire a 5 round burst at each of the Regults": this counts as 2 actions (1 attack on 2 targets would be: "fire a 5 round spray at the Regults").
"3. Dodge": you don't have to mention this in this game due to the "half-actions rule" (unless if you specifically state that your PC is not going to dodge [or otherwise defend itself], it's automatically assumed that your PC is going to take defensive actions [dodge, parry, release chaff/flare, etc.]). Of course, if that's all your character intends to do (like in your action #4), that's OK. In this case, I'm going to combine the dodging with the attack on the 2nd Rigādo.

BIC:

Phase 1
The Valkyrie's kick sends a lot of debris raining down over the two Rigādo. They both step back to avoid the debris, and instinctively train their sensor cameras and Medium-Bore Beam Cannons at the falling building.

Phase 2
Björn's Valkyrie leaps out of the dust, and his 5 round burst hammers the lead Rigādo. It falls over backwards, exploding on the way down.

The 2nd Rigādo fires its beam cannons at Björn, hitting him hard. His VF is knocked back a few steps, and its console displays start screaming a flood of additional damage warnings at him. The performance of all systems drops by about 1/3.

Phase 3
Björn fires his Gun Pod's last 5 rounds into the 2nd Rigādo. While a shower of sparks radiates out from the impacts, he quickly surmises that it's only partially damaged and is still in a much better shape than his Valkyrie.

The Rigādo counterattacks. This time, Björn is able to avoid the shots.

Phase 4
Björn dashes across the alley to a gap between buildings on the other side.

Björn's VF-1X (A-model head)
33% MDC remaining on everything (Main Body: 20 MDC remaining). Performance down by 1/3.
working ROV-20 and GU-11 (0 bullets remaining)

1 Rigādo
1/2 damaged

OOC: finally able to get back to this! Edited for punctuation, etc..

OOC: Sorry I need to get used to this half action rule :)

Flying down the alley towards the next intersection as fast as he still could Björn gave out a big sigh. That went better than expected, but the second Regult surely wouldn't fall for that trick again, new unorthodox ideas where required, and fast.
since his GU was out of bullets he stows it away in its compartment to free up the hand, only the mauler left with some juice...

Oh what I wouldn't give for a shield and a bayonet right now...

And with that a probably stupid but maybe great idea blossomed in his mind. After taking a right turn at the intersection and immediately starts to look around for a big slab of concrete that would be big enough to act as a shield but still light enough that the VF can lift it with his two hands. As soon as he finds a suitable candidate he picks it up, holds it in front of him protecting the chest part of the VF and turns around 180° towards where the enemy should come from.
Björn flies straight towards the corner where the Regult should appear to shorten the distance, after all his makeshift shield probably couldn't take much fire from the enemy before disintegrating, but hopefully would give him enough protection to fire his Maulers a few times.

Actions:
1: Fly down the alley with as much evasive maneuvers as still possible and right at the next intersection
2: Select and pick up a suitable slab of concrete
3: Fly back towards enemy and fire a 10 round burst of ROV-20 as soon as enemy is in sight
4: Another 10 round burst or ROV-20 at enemy and if necessary crash concrete-shield first into the Regult

OOC: Is this a grossly stupid idea? I mean Björn would know if the piece of concrete would actually be able to hold some damage back or not, if not I'll have to think of something less reckless :)

OOC: no problem about getting the hang of the half action rule. It's intended to make things easier in PBP.

While I'd like to advise you to read all of this (some parts are... out of date): http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/SFAQ.php
if you only read one thing, read this guide made by a former player: www.macrossrpg.com/docs/index.php/Death_Angels_Survival_Guide

As for your idea: it's very creative! I think for future reference, we will say that it can only soak up one hit before disintegrating.

BIC:

Phase 1~2

Björn heads down the alley, as the Rigādo starts running toward the alley entrance in chase. He ducks his Valkyrie around a corner just as the Rigādo enters the alley. Within moments, he finds a suitable piece of concrete, and rips it up from the collapsed building wall that it was still partially attached to.

Phase 3

Just as Björn turns around, the Rigādo leaps out of the alley. Using the concrete as a shield, he fires the head laser over the top, hitting, and further whittling down the Rigādo's armour.

The Rigādo counterattacks with it's big guns, and vaporizes the impromptu concrete shield Björn was holding.

Phase 4

As little bits of broken concrete rain down around his Valkyrie's feet and the plume of concrete dust dissipates as it spreads out, he fires another 10 r burst from the RoV-20. The Rigādo is riddled with holes, and it slumps forward, landing on it's face in front of his Valkyrie.

The rest of the mission was a blur for Björn, but he vaguely remembers hiding out in the ruined city until his squadron had rallied an effect counterattack against the group of the Lost Zentrādi, and he was rescued when the swept through the area.

Back in the present, the heavy, rapid footfalls of the full-size Zentrādi had faded away, and Björn sensed that the coast was clear. He left his hiding spot in the alley, and used the narrow winding streets between the main avenues to snake his way back to the only safe place he knew of in the city: his apartment.

OOC: good job. You've got the basics down, and if you have questions at any time in the game, PM me (while I don't post as often as I like, I do check the site at least once a day).

Please proceed to the main game thread and start playing. Your character knows he has to leave the settlement (preferably the planet) as soon as possible, and has just agreed with the other characters that he'll help them out of a pinch in the settlement in exchange for a ride off planet. Of course, Kaumirran has thrown a monkey-wrench into things as usual...
