Operation Crashdown
« on: April 30, 2008, 09:31:58 AM »
RED ALERT!?

Drifting gracefully in space the UNS Leander is under orders to perform generally patrols of the 14th sector near Procyon Major Star Cluster.
Aboard the bridge, Ensign Hari Makibi is sat at the tactical watch officers station, "Ruri, any sign of anything yet?"
"No Hari, just dead empty space," Ruri Otomo said.
All of a sudden, the emergency lights kicked in and alarms started to warble, "Hari, We have an inbound target, Unknown ID at present, Sensors try to fix in."
"Bridge to Captain Elric, We require your presence sir." Hari said as he clicked on the ships tannoy.

As the captain entered the bridge and took his seat, "Ensign Makabi, report."
"Sensors report we have an incoming contact yet, we are waiting on target verification. Check that, its coming through now, vessel?s IFF Transponder indicates it's the UNS Gasaraki, ARMD class escort Carrier." Hari said as he read out the information from his screen.
"The Gasaraki, it can't be. The Gasaraki disappeared over 10,000 light years from here," Elric said.
"Disappeared, Sir?" Ruri questioned.
"Yes, ensign the Gasaraki disappeared back in 2015, near the galactic edge. Investigation flights were sent out but there was no sign of her. What's her heading?"
calculating the vectors and drift Ruri reported back, "She's heading straight for the Procyon Ship yard sir, collision course."
"Attempt to contact the Gasaraki and get me some more damn information, I'll be in my quarters contacting the Governor and Marshall of the ship-yard." Captain Elric ordered as he left for his quarters.

After a small amount of time the Captain returned to the bridge, "So, what else do we know?"
"All attempts at raising contact have failed, sensors show weak signs of live," Ensign Makibi replied.
"Damn, that's means we can't use the main guns, Ensign round me up some marines, an engineer and a pilot, we'll have the ship boarded."
"Aye Sir," Hari replied then got about to doing his orders.

PFC Montgomery couldn't decide if fate was cruel, mean or just indifferent. Fresh out of basic and alpha schools and off to his first post as a UN Marine, he should be optimistic. Instead though, having found himself on a carrier, just chock full of cocky brash fighter pilots, down to earth transport shuttle crewers and numerous other "flyboys" he is bitter. Each time he sees them in the corridors passing by his post, he remembers painfully when he blacked out in the VF sim. Sure, he was a fine pilot in his families antiques, but once he started pulling Gs, lights out. His dad never said anything, though even a rock would notice the sad look in the father's eyes. Montgomery''s still not sure if the news caused his great grandpa's heart attack or not. He showed so much promise. Now, here he is, guarding these flyboys from themselves, making sure no one accesses the lav "without appropriate authorization" or otherwise cleaning his rifle. He's actually longing for some of the fighter jocks to get out of hand. Any excuse to bust them up a little bit, it might make him feel better.

He's in the middle of field stripping the squad automatic weapon, an XM45 Heavy Machine Gun, when the sirens go off. He knows it should be important, but unless someone's boarded the vessel, they haven't called general quarters yet either, it's really nothing for him to do. His roommate has pretty much the same reaction, though he's playing video games, so it'd take a direct hit from a Zentran battleship to phase him. Instead, Montgomery just pretends to shoot his oblivious roommate in the back of the head, picturing brains splattering all over the wall and the hand held game clattering to the floor covered in gore.

The lights flickered of in the breifing room, and the chair tablets lit up, the screen read,

+At 19:13 hours the UNS Leander Picked up a sensor reading of the UNS Gasaraki, further investigation has revealed the Gasaraki is on a collision course with the Procyon Shipyard.
+The VF11 Squadron, the Cavaliers, were sent on an investigation flight, their report confirmed the status of the Gasaraki as a hulk, with unconfirmed but sporadic signs of life.
+The Cavaliers did however, pick up a burst Transmission, message follows:

---Decoding---

---End of Message---

+The Leander has been ordered to send a Marine detachment accompanyed by an engineer to avert this crisis.

The lights in the room came back on and the Captain spoke, "Men, this is Commander John W Winters, he will be attached to your unit for this operation, Cmdr Winters is part of IntOps and is here to find out what happened to the Gasaraki, Unfortunetly Cmdr Winters will be charged with operational Control over the mission. Flight Lt. Listern you are to launch in an hour, Mr Sabreman here will be along to repair the engines enough to change the ships course."

As the Captain left, Lt Card, the Marine's squad leader spoke. "June I want you to stay with Sabreman the entire time, the rest of us will search the ship according to Cmdr Winters, Listern your free to stay in your taxi if you want. Commander?"

"Sounds fine with me, we'll RV in the ships hanger in 30mikes, dismissed." Winters said, and the 9 marines, pilot and engineer left.

Marc decided he may as well make his situation clear, seeing as most of the other clods he worked with carried a weapon.  "Listen carefully.  I do not carry a weapon, I do not kill.  You are my only defense against whomever or whatever is in there.  Without me, you'll never restore that piece of junk to any sort of operable condition.  In short, keep me alive and uninjured, because there's no other engineer on our ship willing to take this kind of risk.  Some would rather die."

June chuckles to himself at that ridiculous notion. He'd heard of this pacifist engineer around the Leander, but hadn't yet come face to face with him. He nudged the jarhead sitting next to him, whispering loud enough for everyone to here, "Well if that joker don't pick up a gun when his ass is about to get greased, I'm not carrying him back to the boat! And he'd better pull his own when the shootin' starts. No room for dead weight in a firefight, unless of course you wanna end up dead!" He looks around for approval from the others, noting the general uneasiness about this whole thing. Boarding an enemy vessel is one thing, you can shoot anything that moves. But this, boarding a derelict friendly, makes it a bit more complicated.

"You'd best be careful.  You'll be relying on me a lot in there, and there's an excellent reason for why I'm a pacifist.  You aren't worth the explanation, and I'm more than capable of protecting myself if I can get in melee range."

"Whoa there buddy, remember, we're the M-A-R-I-N-E-S. You may be some engineer or whatever, but the rest of us are pros. We'll let you do your job bub, but just let us do ours okay? And try not to get in the way." He's not really angry yet, but it's nice to have a target for any pent up aggression. And this tech dude blathering on is just the ticket, a pacifist in the Corps, that's just stupid. Plus, it looks like the dude might be able to take a punch or two!

Sammy nods at the Marine officer "Yes sir, I understand."

She follows the marines out of the room, she decides to head down towards the shuttle bay and make quick inspection of the shuttle. Dad always said that if something goes wrong with your bird, its your fault for no catching it before you left the deck

Just as she is about to leave the group she catchs June's outburst. "Lets get on thing clear. We are all in this together right? that means we don't leave anyone behind even if they are a waste of Oxygen." She aims her glare steadly at sabreman. "I find out you left him behind and you can find your own ride back got it?"
What kind of gorrilla have I be assigned to ferry?

"Jeeez! What is this? I got a ferryboat driver and a wrench head comin' down on me! What'd I do but have a conversation with my buddy, and y'all come pokin' round in my face!" He stands up, maybe a little height will help people see things his way. While standing he might as well head out to get his gear too. Nobody messes around when he's carrying the SAW.

On the way out, he tosses a parting shot at the pilot, "Well I can fly my own you know, it's not as hard as you pilots make out." Nobody has to know he'd pass out on any high g-maneuver.

"Nice try, but I'm the one who got stuck fixing up the simulator after you blew chunks in it.  At the very least, if you're going to be a jackass, don't be an idiot."  Marc inwardly smirked at this, but kept a bored and indifferent face.  No need to excessively bait the jarheads, after all.  "Oh, and next time your shuttle breaks down, I'll remember that 'waste of oxygen' comment.  Besides, as a pilot, you ought to know better than to piss off the engineers and mechanics.  Remember, I never get mad, just even."

Sammy looks surprised at the enginner. "That was not-" She shakes her head. I should know better than to let my temper get the best of me.
She looks the man "Look I am sorry it was a heat of the moment thing. Would you mind if I tried again?" she gives him her best winning smile.

"I'm Lt. Listern. But my friends call me sammy. Nice to meet you" She holds out here hand as a peace offering.

Marc took the pilot's hand in a firm grip.  "Marc Sabreman, engineer.  I'm technically a civilian, so I have no rank.  Might want to keep a leash on your friend though.  He may have a gun, but I'm a top-ranked Taijutsu specialist.  He's just lucky I'm a pacifist, or I'd discipline him with a spanner wrench."

"Heh, sounds like it stll might be a good idea." Sammy smiles again. "Well I had better go check on the shuttle otherwise we might not get anywhere." With that she turns and leaves heading down towards the hangerdeck.

The Hanger was a frantic hive of activtiy as it always seemed to be. She headed towards where her shuttle was parked, exchanging waves and jibes with other pilots as she passed. Sammy waited at one point as a flight of veritechs where readied and launched. I would give anything to be flying those again, maybe after this mission
Once the fighters had gone out of sight she returned her attention to the shuttle, beging her pre-flight checks from the top.

June sticks with the rest of his squad until the last possible moment, then he heads down to the shuttle bay to load up. When he sees the shuttle pilot running through the pre-flight. He sidles on up. She does look better than his fellow marines, and it's macho to hit on girls, and well, he's always going for macho. His full kit makes him feel pretty tough too, though he felt the taste of defeat as he watched the flight of VFs leave the hangar. He'd never be able to fly one! So instead, harass this young lady who might still have a chance.

"Yo! You must a pissed someone off to be driving a bus with a bunch of Marines! Or you just suck as a pilot. I guess I hope you pissed someone off."
