'Oy! Oy! Oy! Bow! Wow! Wow! - That's no way to talk to a lady.'  Saffron takes her Gerwalk down landing at grid B-4 to conduct a very narrower scan.   As soon as she detects its exact position she'll change to battroid and dig for it.

"Sir, permission to fly a low level circumference sweep."

"Uh," Stonewall waffles, "right, copy that."

'Oy! Oy! Oy! Bow! Wow! Wow! - That's no way to talk to a lady.'

"Stow it," brusquely retorts Stonewall.

Jacques-Burton lands in a bog full of pieces of wreckage.  As she moves in toward the black box's transponder signal, she notices that the piece of wreckage that she just landed on has sheared a corner off an engine-nacelle weapon container-sized cargo box that it partially covers.  Inside, she sees that it's full of pink and peach coloured crystal or quartz-like shiny things.

Captain Daniels radios on the squadron frequency, "HQ just alerted us that the 'legal owners' of this planet have taken control of th investigation and they want us out of here.  They've dispatched VFs to escort you back to the ship.  Major Raven, you know what to do."  The transmission from the ship ends.

"Shit," Raven curses.  He addresses the Wildcards, "I want everyone on the ground, now!  Pick up whatever you can stow that you think will help the investigation.  Archer, ETA?"

Archer plays with his consoles.  "3 boogies approaching at Mach 21+.  We've got approximately 15 seconds, sir."

Raven barks, "double-time it people!" as he, too, goes in for a fast landing at one of the larger areas of burning wreckage near his position.

Safron looks at the piece of wreckage over the container of shiny things and the piece over the black box.  She figures she has time to recover and stow only one.

Major Stonewall lands and begins turning over debris.  He doesn't find anything of note.

Janos, Jacques-Burton and Archer all freeze up, and don't respond to Stonewall's instructions.  Perhaps they've misunderstood the intent of his orders?

Roughly 12 seconds later, "Yee-ha!" blares over the radio.  Followed by a warning shot exploding overhead.

"Drop your linen and start your grinnin', it's a dry heat!" continues the same jovial voice on the radio.

The 3 inbound rapidly decelerate as they come in to view.  They're purple and green VF-27.

They transform to GERWALK mode and hover, with their guns aimed near, but not at Janos, Jacques-Burton and Stonewall - the three Wildcards that are on or near to the ground at the time.

6 more blips appear on the screen, approaching at approximately Mach 5.  They're approximate 10 m x 10 m size indicates that they're of the Ghost drone class, most likely AIF-7S or AIF-9V.

"Hudson, secure that shit!" barks another voice, presumably the leader of the flight of VF-27.  The same voice addresses the Wildcards, "NUNS pilots, your day pass has expired.  Clear out... Now."

There's sufficient authority and threat of violence in the voice, not to mention their orders from the CH-420 H. Ito, that Stonewall has no choice but to say, "time to leave, boys and girls."

His VF-171 transforms to GERWALK, and slowly hovers upwards - both to provide cover for the pilots under his command, and to make as many video and sensor recordings of the crash site as he can.

Midway through her sweep of the surround, hoping to find something interesting Janos's flight is interrupted by Stonewalls expletive "Shit," ... "I want everyone on the ground, now!" ... "double time it people!" Janos silently blinks at the consol what the hell are we supposed to grab? I'm no forensic investigator

floating down near the ground janos let her eyes play accross the debris, however it all looked like so much slag to her, then it was too late.

"Drop your linen and start your grinnin', it's a dry heat!"

what the fuck...?  Janos quick ascends, following Stonewall into the air as the small unit clears out and away from the crash site leaving the three 27's and their ghost escorts to do their own mop up.  Janos frowns at her reflection momentarilly spotted in the console pane. fat lot of good we did on this one... something itched the back of her head and she played back over the briefing session in her head...there it was  captain Daniels had said Wildcards, your primary objective is to rescue survivors  there wasn't a chance in hell their was survivors here... what were we really after.

Janos shook her head, no we need more info.

"Sir, are we just going to leave?"

Safforn admired the crystals 'Ooh pretty.'   They would make a nice necklace.   She knows her instructions were to recover the black box and not some pretty crystals.   Would be nice to bring both but she can't.   She was thinking it over in her head for a while till finally she came to the right conclusion.  'If I take the crystals think about how many more black boxes I can buy.   Why settle for just one black box when you can buy a zillion?'

She made up her mind and moved her battroid towards her precious.  Then them tooting local authorities arrived.  'It ain't fair.  This our claim.  We do all the work and someone who did nothing takes it away.'  This was Saffron new necklace.   She aimed not to turn it over without a fight.  Odds were equal till she took note of the opposition's backup.  Even a shoot first worry about it later gal like Saffron can be a sneaky snake.

We sent a message out and didn't bother making it private.   "Commander sir.  I seem to be having mechanical problems.  I don't think it is safe to fly my pony without doing some repairs."

"Sir, are we just going to leave?"

"Uh huh," comes Major Stonewall's affirmative grunt.

"Commander sir.  I seem to be having mechanical problems.  I don't think it is safe to fly my pony without doing some repairs."

Stonewall facepalms.  "You'll have to take it up with the..." he pauses as he zooms in on one of the VF-27.  "...SOIT's goons."

Anyone else who zooms in can see the markings of, Secure hOlding Incorporated Trust, one of the more notorious private military agencies active in the sector.

Stonewall and Archer continue accelerating skyward to gain escape velocity.

"Attention.   Zots...er..."  Saffron wasn't sure what their names were.   Major Stonewall said something and Saffron was doing her best to repeat it.   She examined some of their fighters markings their full name was too long to repeat and no way they'd want to her to call them by their initials.

"...pilots.   This is Saffron Jacques-Burton U.N. Spacy my VF is currently malfuncting.  I reckon it ain't safe to fly her without doing some field repairs."   That oughta give her some time to grab her precious.

Ro judged herself to be about 1/2 klick up in the air before she pulled her fighter to a  hover in Gerwalk mode. She listed to the Banter on the Radio, and was torn between putting in her own two cents, or staying silent.  She wonder if things could actually get ugly her.  She'd seen frontier fights, but it had always been again aggressors or pirates and thieves. She zoomed in on Saffrons cockpit but could make no more of the womans intentions by looking at her than listening.

Sniff.... hrmmmph, I get I'll run cover....  she touched her controls, temped to live activate her missiles, but knowing that a lock on would alert the 27s she simply shuffled the volley sizes back and forth between 1 and 2 while allowing her fighter to drift slowly downward, maybe a meter every 3 seconds, quick enough if seen from a distance, but hopefully not from directly below.

OOC: Ro will attack with a volley of missiles if the SOIT attempt to engage or apprehend Saffron. Striking however the ground around the opposing PMC rather than direct hits. :OOC

"Outstanding... now all we need is a deck of cards," replies the same one that was obnoxious earlier.

"Hudson, with me," retorts another pilot, as the two SOIT VF-27 come in to land near Saffron.

"I feel safer already," replies Hudson.

The third VF-27, slowly circles and watches the other two at a saft distance, as the Ghosts arrive.  They turn out to be brown coloured AIF-7S.  Slightly less dangerous than the AIF-9V.

Hudson radios, "We're on an express elevator to hell; going down!"

His wing-mate addresses Saffron, "all right, sweetheart, what are you waiting for?  Breakfast in bed?"

Hudson taunts her, "That's it man, game over man, game over!  What are you gonna do now?  What are you gonna do?!"

Saffron only has a few moments before they land.

Stonewall levels off, cursing his subordinates to himself.  "Goddamn!  Now is not the time to be dicking around!  This better be worth it!", he yells at himself in the cockpit, with the radio turned off.

In a flash Ro sees the opportunity, with their guards so close it could actually Work, but Saffron would have to work alone.  Ro quickly sets up a tight laser communication band with Saffrons fighter and begin nattering away.

"Whatever you are going to do you are going to have about 2 seconds or less to do it.   Open up your subsystems control on monitor F-delta, the coolant in one of your thrusters and jettison. You will get a super-cold cloud cover briefly until the coolant burns away, covers your repair BS and gives you cover to make whatever move it is you plan on.  I'll drop down and give you the extra boost to clear atmosphere as that jet ain't going to last for more than a minute without coolant!"  Ro desperately hopes saffron paid enough attention in the technical portions of her training to follow through.  Ro remembers  the lesson but not the teachers face.  She continues to allow her VF to drop in elevation to be ready to pull up Saffron and whatever payload she decides to take if any.

She was counting on being able to use the repair excuse as time to grab her precious.   At the worst she felt she could take a few of them down in a shoot out but Ro's suggestion didn't sound all that bad.   If Ro wants to split Saffron's precious she had another thing coming.   'It's mine.

Following Ro's instructions she releases the coolant and uses the time to grab the container with the shiny quartz.  "Wow!  What was that?   I think my readings are returning to normal.   Must have just been gas"  She makes known on an open channel."  Not the best lie but she's improvising.

Janos's suggestion does the trick.  During the burst of coolant, Hudson yelps on the radio, "I guess she don't like the cornbread, either."

Jacques-Burton manages to grab 3 thumb-sized pieces of the crystalline shiny things.  She also manages to dunk her feet in swamp water, and in the scramble back into the cockpit, realizes her boots are caked with thick mud.

Jacques-Burton gets back in, and radios, "Wow!  What was that?   I think my readings are returning to normal.   Must have just been gas."

Just then, the two VF-27 land, in GERWALK mode, in flanking positions.  Hudson again radios, "man, this floor is freezing."

As Jacques-Burton thrusters upwards, she notes that the mud stinks, and, even worse, there are a couple of gnats buzzing around her cockpit.

The two VF-27 pilots watch as Jacques-Burton forms up with Janos.  The other one radios, "They ain't paying us enough for this, man!"

As soon as Jacques-Burton and Janos form up with Stonewall, he leads them in an acceleration skywards.  Despite Janos's forewarning, Jacques-Burton has no engine heating problems on the trip to orbit.  She does have a bug and stink problem.

Stonewall radios Jacques-Burton, "strange malfunction you had there, girl.  At the very least, did you get what you wanted?"

"Oh I got what I wanted.  It was some pretty crys..."

She stopped herself in mid-sentence.   The three shinny sparkling crystals were her precious alone.  A man wouldn't appreciate them.   He'd just sell them off.  She would sell them off too but without appreciating them first.  A clever lie was needed here.

"...No.  Nope I didn't get what I wanted.  Just got my boots covered in mud.   When I get back I'll needed take them to get them cleaned in town.   Yes that's what I'll do.  I'll take my boots in town to get them cleaned somewhere in the diamond district..."

Wait.  Did Saffron give important clue way?   Nope she had things under control.

"...yeah cause.   I want my boots to shine like new.  Just like my twin revolvers.  They got industrial buffers in the diamond district."

"  ...They got industrial buffers in the diamond district."

how shallow can the woman be?! she thought viciously, she didn't even care what Saffron had gone down for, just that she'd jeopardized her life, Then caught herself thumbing the mic switch to fire back some scathing remark.  However, there were no words, Ro really didn't care enough to start a pitch battle across the monitors. Her thumb hit the switch, but instead of reprimand...

"Hey, at least its just mud, another moment and those guys there would have covered you in lead...I hear its hard to polish out..."  Who am I to deal out discipline anyway..  Ro mind drifted back to her entry into the Caesar Military, junior rank, and only months ago.

"Oh I got what I wanted.  (...)  They got industrial buffers in the diamond district."

Stonewall rolls his eyes visibly.  "Whatever."

"Hey, at least its just mud, another moment and those guys there would have covered you in lead...I hear its hard to polish out..."

Stonewall snorts.  'At least one person in my team has her head screwed on straight...' he thinks to himself.  'Emphasis on the screws,' he thinks as he snorts again and the right end of his lip turns up slightly in a cheeky grin.

After a long moment, Stonewall radios, "Safron, you dumped a lot of coolant there.  Radio if you're having trouble making it back to orbit."

The team has no problem making it to orbit.  Though Jacques-Burton does end up red lining her engine.

The team lands with no incident.  As soon as they're in the hangar and the external doors are closed, Horatio Cane, the ship-board systems bridge operator, radios, "Major Stonewall... your team's emitting a low level fold wave."  He puts on his sunglasses, then adds, "What'd you pick up?"
