Macross-R Translations
« on: February 13, 2013, 02:49:25 PM »
We can't put this all on Sketchley, so me and a friend are translating some of the stuff Sketchley hasn't. This will all be out of the two volumes of Macross-R Visual Book.

(volume 1 page 19)

Q: Please teach me about the classes of Vanquish Racing.
A: The main items are broken up into three classes.

ULTIMATE CLASS
It’s a class that became synonymous with Vanquish that reigns as the ultimate Valkyrie Race. You can limitlessly tune up the frame, modify the wings, change out the engine, etc. Because it’s a place where you fight just like actual combat in the Flag Area where Valkyries whose abilities have been pushed to the limits are granted permission to transform and attack, there are also rumors that military manufacturers are also secretly inserting demonstration vehicles and collecting data. Due to being a full-contact fight where one doesn’t hesitate to destroy, it’s not uncommon for great disaster to occur...

Pinpoint Barrier Gate
A special airlock that puts PPB to use
Immediately after the start, the fuselages which cleared the circumference of the regulation course inside a environment warship pass through the special gate which utilizes PPB and fly off into space. This gate vanishes, only for the time when passing through, Valkyries’ and humans’ existences, just like passing through a wall, it throws all fuselages into space. It’s said that this technology rapidly magnified the scale of Vanquish Racing.

Fighter Area
The area that’s most like an air race
In space, one flies close to the outer wall of the environment warship and clears many pylons that were established. You might think it’s a speed contest, but the course where you fly along the outer wall is very tight, and you can see a scene where through the picking of a course -- where old-type VF’s that are controlled by veteran pilots, etc are sly -- a new-type VF is outmaneuvered. Here, considering the environment warship, acts of war are forbidden, and strictly monitored.

Gerwalk Area
The area that’s limited to Gerwalk techniques
The slalom area that’s where you cross the gate for the second time. Gerwalk types are required. Transformable-type poles are also used as turn-marks, but there are also courses that use the enviromnent, like Island Reno. Because altitude is limited, irregular maneuver strategies performed by Gerwalk-types such as powerful turns using your arms and sudden braking using your legs are popular.

Flag Area
Fierce battle area where transforming and attacking are okay
Winners of Vanquish are decided at the time someone obtains a flag in this area. But, as the tournament continues, the number of flags decreases, it presents an aspect of musical chairs. Also, in this area, several arms that are loaded with mock bullets are deployed, using those and attacking, even if you are rendered unable to move, you can win. It’s the Vanquish ultimate highlight scene where you get the flag or defeat the enemy.

THUNDERBOLT CLASS
It’s a race that only takes place with VF-11’s which are acclaimed to being VF-1’s substantial successor. Production count is large, and because of the sale of fuselages that were deemed not useful to citizens in mass quantities, it’s also a race with many participants. Surplus parts are plentiful, and because of the abundance of supply of spare parts also, the race itself shows aspects of being one-design. In principle, normal fuselages, in order to use the engine, exhibit very similar abilities, but, therefore, it can also be said that it’s a race where the pilot’s skill set is tested. By the way, the class name is from the pet name of VF-11. At the same time, a fleet where the VF-1 class exists also exists.

OSTRICH CLASS
It’s something that inserted the race that Zentraedi, who love Valkyrie racing, began as Vanquish. The unique thing is that the vehicle that the giants that they are had are called Regult which are battle pods. The rule known as “As long as there are two seats, anything’s OK” was born from that style. It is thought that the class name was named from this rule. The Regult monopolized the ranks in the race for a long time from that mass production, but recently you can also witness Zentraedi shrunk by Micron riding a VF, and participating in a variation of Gerwalk form using only their legs.

** environment warship I think is meant as the emigrant ship
