Joining
I like to have character interaction in my games.  Prospective players are expected to be able to play off of the details provided by other players and the GM.
If I am unfamiliar with your work, I may ask for a referral, a short familiarization side game, or both.

There are also certain obligations and restrictions attributed to playing in the game:
• the player promises to post at least once once a week
• new players may have to wait for a suitable time in the story to join with the main group (your character will, of course, be engaged in a side mission while waiting)

Refer to the Steel Valkyries Joining and Creation Notes for further details.

JOINING TERMS updated 2017.09.17
By agreeing to play and posting in character in my games, you (the player) agree to abide by the terms of the game and by the following simple policies:

   1. The player will not violate the MRC's terms of agreement and policies of use.
   2. When the GM makes a post, it is final.  Baring exceptional circumstances, arguing over it may prove to be futile.
   3. Submissions for changes in the rules (the Palladium Books RPG engine, and the house rules of the game), interpretations of the rules, and weaponry load-outs of either the characters or their vehicles are allowed and acceptable for discussion.  However, the discussion must occur in an OOC topic, and the outcome of any discussion will not come into effect until the current combat/mission has concluded.
   4. OOC statements longer then one (1) sentence must always be made in the appropriate OOC thread.
   5. Acceptance that though the events occurring in the game may be a part of the larger Group Campaign and/or the MRG and MRC universes, that they, the house rules, and the terms of the game are limited to this game.
   6. If a player leaves the game, I reserve the right to write out their character in a manner that fits with the current story line.  I will, however, try to respect the wishes of the player.
   7. Anything said in character or done during the game does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the GM, but if there is something that is not to your liking, contact the GM immediately.
   8. The tone of the game is intended to be PG - like how violence and adult topics are presented in Star Wars.  You may be asked to tone down (= rewrite) any content that goes beyond the PG guideline.

Questions, comments, please post them in the OCC board.

Setting:
The game takes place in 2069, in the area between Sector M45-3 and the Zentrādi Control Zone*
*Indirect link: Select Sector M45-3 & Vicinity Map from the list.

After the destruction of the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid in the Fold Anomaly Nebula in 2061, and the dissipation of Fold Faults starting from 2063, connections between the M45-3 sector and its environs, and the rest of the New Unified Government controlled territories started to open up.  There was a burst of growth in the area, and settlers began to explore and colonize the New Territories, a wedge of space between the Zentrādi Control Zone and Sectors M45-3 and M45-4.  The activity provoked the Chi and Aodh factions in the zone, which stirred up interactions between the other nearby factions, and renewed interest (both for and against) the Earthlings in the M45-3 area.

A wave of new trade networking, and the establishment of safe, reliable trade routes is sweeping the local area of the Zentrādi Control Zone.  But differing factions in the zone, as well as the continuing conflicts between the colonies in the area (both old and new), are causing new tensions and opportunities to emerge.

Sector M45-3 is experiencing something akin to a Gold Rush from the lucrative Fold Quartz deposits spread throughout the sector.  Many people have come from far and wide to take advantage of the opportunity.  Some are more honourable than others.

The New Unified Government has barely reacted to the changes, and has hardly expanded the NUNS presence in the sector.  Colonies, Emigrant Planets, and enterprises have had to develop their own defences, or employ others to do it for them.  Many new PMCs (Private Military Companies), and some established ones have set up shop in the area.

Your character has just signed on as a Valkyrie pilot in one of those new PMCs.  The job description included being able to:
• pilot Valkyries
• speak Zentrādi
• pilot Zentrādi Mobile Weapons and/or have mechanical/repair abilities
Experience and local knowledge is preferable, but not necessary.  Only honourable soldiers of fortune need apply.

Surplus Military Goods:

In general...
• Basic NUNS and Zentrādi materials are commonly available at low costs
• Advanced NUNS and Zentrādi materials are less available, and when they are, they are usually worn out and moderate to highly priced
• current NUNS and Zentrādi materials are rare, and expensive (but almost always factory fresh)
Valkyries
• VF-11/VF-14: becoming more and more unavailable, as most were sold off before the Unified Forces transitioned into NUNS
• VF-171: starting to become commonly available, as NUNS really begins selling off older airframes
• VF-1/VA-3: not very common, but still available in limited numbers.  Most are worn-out ancient examples, but buyers may find next to brand-new models at current Valkyrie specs (VF-1XX, VA-3M) for sky-high prices.
• Other VFs: in general, the older the model, the rarer it is.  Ones produced in larger quantities (ie the VF-14) may be available at levels between the VF-11 and VF-171.
Zentrādi Mobile Weapons
Some of the Zentrādi in the control zone have successfully adapted human technologies into existing Mobile Weapon designs.  They've enacted the following additions:

Full-size Pilots
• Enhanced Energy Conversion Armour: effectively doubles the MDC
• Countermeasures Dispensers: full compliment of chaff, flares, and smoke
My-clone Sized Pilots
Above changes and...
• My-clone-sized Cockpit: cockpit block from the VF-11 or similar bolted onto the full-size Zentrādi pilot's seat
• PPB Capacitors in the cockpit section: enables a comparatively limited PPB
Initial Timeline

2040
- the M15 Fleet launches as part of the many 30th anniversary celebrations that mark the end of the First Interstellar War.
2047
- the M15 fleet had to drop off half of the population on Caesar, one of the more inhabitable planets in Sector M45-3 because of an internal disaster.  Thereafter, the M15 continued on its way, promising to return for them.
- after losing too many messages because of things like Fold Faults, the Emigrants begin to settle down as colonists.
- shortly thereafter, due to the situation, large groups left to found the other major colonies in the sector.
- Caesar serves as the Sector Government, as it is the one established by the M15 to be in charge of the others in the sector.
2053
- the emigrants have pretty much settled down on their respective planets
- it's been over a year since the M15's last garble message.
- the Unified Government has been growing through some changes into the New Unified Government.  Emigrant Planets, colonies, and Emigrant Fleets are becoming more and more independent.
2061
September 02
(a year after the events of Macross Frontier)
- the colonies in the sector are divided.
Extended Timeline (2061 onwards):
Source (note: updated more regularly)

2060
Unspecified

- disputes and border skirmishes between the countries on De Moins (Sector M45-3) increase in intensity and frequency. Hereafter, De Moins is considered to be unstable.
2061
September:

01: Aertheold claims Nora [Sector M45-3] as part of their territory.
02: the colonies in Sector M45-3 are divided.  CG-420 H. Ito dispatches the Wildcards squadron to investigate a crash site on Nora. PMC SOIT is contracted by the planet's "new" rightful owners, Aertheold, to chase away the New Unified Forces investigation team.
10: the Wildcards are dispatched to the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid [Sector M45-3] to prevent an armed conflict between Aertheold and Bo-yae miners who have discovered rich Fold Quartz seams in its crust. Over the next few days, they make trips between the camps of the two sides as peacemaking diplomats.
16: a giant Fold Quartz is discovered on the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid. The two conflicting camps eventually get into an armed standoff with each other, and just as the shooting starts, the Wildcards intervene and calm things down to a tense standoff.
18: a handful of Unified Forces spaceships arrive at the planetoid. They begin defusing the standoff between Aertheold and Bo-yae.
20: the Wildcards are rotated off of the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid, and reassigned to the Zentraadi sector.
24: The Battle For The Elephant Graveyard Planetoid explodes between Aertheold and Bo-yae with the arrival of their respective reinforcements. The New Unified Forces are unable to restrain either side, and get swallowed up in the conflict.
October:
05: The Elephant Graveyard Planetoid explodes due to an interaction between Reaction Weapons, Dimension Eater Weapons, and the Fold Quartz in the crust. It causes a net of expanding Fold Faults that spreads throughout the sector.
2063
September

- the net of Fold Faults in Sector M45-3 expanding from the Fold Anomaly after the destruction of the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid reaches its peak intensity.
2066
March

- the net of Fold Faults in Sector M45-3 expanding from the Fold Anomaly after the destruction of the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid have steadily dissipated to a level below that of the ambient Fold Faults prior to the destruction of the planetoid. It leads to the speculation that there is another planetoid laced with Fold Quartz in the Fold Anomaly that was acting in resonance with the Elephant Graveyard Planetoid, causing the high levels of ambient Fold Faults in Sector M45-3.
April
- the major colonies in Sector M45-3 begin earnestly searching for a Fold Quartz laced object in the Fold Anomaly - which is now strikingly less massive and disruptive to transport routes in the area. As a result, the tensions between the major colonies in the sector increase.

Timeline (ref. Sector M45-3):

• 2059
• 2060-2066
• 2067~
• 2069

• 26: the Steel Valkyries squadron meets on Phej, on Nora (William's Star)
• 29: they steal VT-1CS Valkyries from a logging camp near Willow Springs Farm (outskirts of Phej), and rendezvous with the Kamekahame in orbit (William's Star)
• 31: the Steel Valkyries complete a raid on a Smugglers' Base on Loran for VF-1 armaments (William's Star)

Technology Abilities, Fold Speeds/Travel Times

The following are an agreed-upon set of constants, such as how long it takes for a Fold Communications transmission to reach the destination over a set distance, how fast/far a space fold is, things like that.

Fold Carbon: needed for Fold Drives, Fold Communication, etc..
Fold Quartz: needed for Super Fold Drives, near instantaneous Fold Communication (out to N distance, not inhibited by Fold Barriers, etc.).

In-Universe Technology Limitations and Abilities

Fold Speeds

Fold Technology:
- 1 light year every 2 hours (Fold Booster: approx. 1 light year every 90 min + recharge time)
- ships MAY be the same or 1/2 of that rate
- some ships, like the Varohta High Speed Cruiser, are 1/3 to 1/4 of that rate

Super Fold Technology:
- reduces Fold travel times to 1/10 (so a 10 day trip becomes a 1 day trip)
- 1 light year every 12 minutes (Super Fold Booster: approx. 1 light year every 9 min + recharge time)
Fold Travel Times
*Indirect link: Select Sector M45-3 & Vicinity Map from the list.
The majority of Fold travel is via normal Fold.  This is especially true for bulk cargo and economy class transports.  Only the most expensive couriers, transports, or elite government leaders and military forces have access to Super Fold Drive equipped vehicles.

Cloversheen to Christos (one side of M45-3 to the other) - approx. 50 light years
- regular Fold, non-stop: approx. 75 hours (3.13 days)
- regular Fold, with stops*: approx. 100 hours (4.17 days)
- Super Fold, non-stop: approx. 7.5 hours
- Super Fold, with stops: approx. 10 hours

Stepan to New Sahara (one end of M45-3 to the other) - approx. 100 light years
- regular Fold, non-stop: approx. 150 hours (6.25 days)
- regular Fold, with stops*: approx. 200 hours (8.33 days)
- Super Fold, non-stop: approx. 15 hours
- Super Fold, with stops: approx. 20 hours

Earth to Midway (center of M45-3) - approx. 450 light years
- regular Fold, non-stop: approx. 28.125 days (4.01 weeks)
- regular Fold, with stops*: approx. 37.5 days (5.36 weeks)
- Super Fold, non-stop: approx. 67.5 hours (2.81 days)
- Super Fold, with stops: approx. 90 hours (3.75 days)

* recharge, Fold Fault delays, alternate routes, whatever

Agencies

Emigrant Management Control Bureau (EMCB)

"In accordance with 'the Mankind Sowing Plan', it's an organization that was established for the purpose of efficiently spreading mankind in the galaxy.  The EMCB performs all kinds of duties, from the draughting of the Emigrant Fleet construction plan to deciding such things as the citizen's boarding order and assignments."
[from VFMF: VF-1 Wings of Space]
Inter-Sector Trade Business Federation  (I-B-F)
Major player between all colonies throughout sector 5, 6 and 7 - as well as in the path of the M-15.  Acts as a cross between 'Better Business Bureau' and 'Her Majesty's Secret Service'.  A powerhouse of litigation and political manipulation; IBF maintains however, few staff in this sector do to there being few business locally registered with IBF.
SIS
Sovereign Independent States.  Objective has been to create an alternative to the New Unified Government.  The organization doesn't have its own military, but it does provide tactical and philosophical support to local militia and any allies they can muster.
- trying to establish a foothold in the sector and trying to sign the small colonies to their side.
- not seen as a military threat, but a political threat with military consequences.

(...)
Katherine's Kevlar (Kays)
A space born manufacturing facility, usually know as “Kays”.  Supports an onboard population of some 3,000 people; most of whom work directly for Kay in the various parts of her business.  She does not consider herself a nation or colony however, just a business.  She sells all manner of arms and armaments.  Her facility can repair up to frigate-sized vessels, and is rumoured to have 3 to 6 individually modified VF-19s, on top of the factory's broad array of defences.  She is also rumoured to service Zentrādi vessels.  Kay is a full-sized  Zentrādi.
Tachyon & Express
A Zentrādi enterprise whose business was expanded from an express home delivery company by Quadorn after the First Interstellar War.  They have an established reputation in high-speed transport of small-sized cargo.
Note: they are the sponsors of a VF-1X++ in Vanquish Caesar.
Tear Gas Incorporated firearms
A small-time arms dealer with broad connections.  He doesn’t have a base of operations, but is noted to be part of several anti-Unified Government organizations.
He is the best deal in town for just about any kind of weapon, big (spaceship) and small (pocket knives).  The only trouble is finding the man to buy anything off of him.
Viswa & Oder
A well-established interstellar transportation company whose parent body was an OTEC OTM research public corporation.  Viswa & Oder is known strongly in such things as shipbuilding aimed at civilians and the passenger realm.
Note: they are the sponsors of a VF-19ACTIVE in Vanquish Caesar.
Numens Inc
A private mining platform (actually platforms) making a hefty profit off of Munak's moon of Pyon-Pyon, by pulling near perfectly pure C-60 off of the surface of the planets crust.  Numens Inc. Enploys nearly 2,000 people on up to 7 different platforms at a go; usually in 6 to 8 week stints on the surface (actually only near the surface, as the platforms hover).  Typical pull for the employees during their service is 3,400 per week, with a danger pay bonus of 1,000 per week past the first 8 days (most people don’t make it past the first week).
Vanquish Caesar
The Caesar branch of the Valkyrie Vanquish races.

TRAXS
TRAXS is named after Allister Traces, the founder of the illegal underground sport.  Local authorities have had trouble pinning down the organization.   Few believe that it has had ties with Anti-UN organizations in the past.  However, in one of his very few “public” announcements on the Galaxy Network, Mr. Traces has called the Traces X, or TRAXS, a private sport that doesn't have ties or allegiances for or against any political movement.

TRAXS is an illegal racing/gambling ring that puts the pilots lives on the line as much as their reputation.  While not necessarily an all out Mobile Weapon [mecha] fight, the premise of the match is to beat all other opponents to the end of the race track, by whatever mean necessary.  This has led to a high mortality rate for both the racers and the attendant audience, and consequently banned from Unified Government space.

The Banning from the Unified Government space has not particularly bothered the organizers of the sport, as few good races worlds cannot be duplicated outside of the Unified Government sphere of influence.  In Sector 15, the races have continued to occur until just recently, although there are rumours in the underground that local sites may be used again in 2061 TRAXS UFC #45.  The TRAXS UFC, or Ultimate Fighter Challenge, brings Mobile Weapon [mecha]-heads to the table with their best and most powerful Variable Fighters, and the pilots crazy enough to challenge the track for a grand prize of incredible funds.  The Last TRAXS UFC was won by a My-clonized Zentrādi pilot in a modified VF-171, who enjoyed the victory only long enough to last across the finish line; whereupon his Valkyrie exploded in a fiery crash landing.  The Valkyrie's the inventor committed himself to winning the next year's competition.

SMS

SMS started as security escorts for a shipping company.   Richard Bilrer was not only the owner of a shipping company and SMS, but also the sponsor of the Macross Frontier.  They can be pretty much anywhere.  (Especially as the 2nd MF movie depicts there being multiple branches of SMS in multiple fleets, each equipped with their own Macross Quarter.)
