Stargate: Macross

Welcome to the SGC.

An RPG set in the Macross universe about one year after the conclusion of the Macross Frontier TV series.  This game shouldn't be considered canon, but it is based off of canon events.

Important Links

Joining
I like to have a large amount of character interaction in my games. As such, prospective players should be good writers that play off of the details provided by other players and the GM.  If I am unfamiliar with your work, I will ask for both a referral and the completion of a short test.

In addition, there are certain obligations and restrictions attributed to playing in the game:
  • The obligations are that the player promises to post on a once-a-week basis and others, as outlined elsewhere amongst the links provided below.
  • The restrictions in joining are usually, but not limited to, having to wait until a suitable time in the story to join. (Example: if the squad is in the midst of a top-secret mission, the new player must wait until the squad has returned from the mission.)

JOINING TERMS
By agreeing to play and posting in character in my games, you (the player) agree to abide by the terms of the game and by the following simple policies:

   1. You will not violate the MRG's terms of agreement and policies of use.
   2. When the GM makes a post, it is final. Arguing over it may prove to be futile.
   3. Submissions for changes in the rules, interpretations of the rules (of Palladium Books RPG engine, MRG modifications to them and the house rules of the game) and weaponry load-outs of either the characters or their vehicles are allowed and acceptable for discussion. However, the discussion must occur in an OOC board and the outcome of any discussion will not come into effect until the current combat/mission has concluded.
   4. OOC statements longer then one sentence must always be made in the appropriate OOC thread.
   5. Acceptance that though the events occurring in the game are a part of the larger MRG universe, that they and the house rules and terms of the game are limited to the game.
   6. If you leave the game, I reserve the right to write out your character in a manner that fits with the current story line. I will, however, try to respect the wishes of the player.
   7. Anything said in character or done during the game does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the GM, but if there is something that is not to your liking, contact me immediately.

Questions, comments, please post them in the OCC board.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The GM post will be every Tuesday night, JST.

April 4 submerged Altira type Protoculture City-Spaceship discovered on Vajra homeworld.  City partially activated during initial exploration.
28 city fully activated, and brought to the surface.

July 21 Stargate discovered
25 Stargate operation instructions discovered bundled with message from the Protocultures to fellow Protoculture to follow them through the gate to the Protodevlin-free safety of the Large Magellanic Cloud Galaxy, after they have arrived and begun building colonies in that galaxy.  Indications that another Altira-type City Ship undertook a multi-century fold to the Large Magellanic Cloud Galaxy are also found.
30 Stargate activated for the first time to see if the gate actually works and there is another gate for it to connect to.  A MALP sent to the other side confirms breathable air, a large open area, and a DHD.

August 1 mission to follow the Protoculture authorized.  Formation of SGC.  Personnel selection begins, followed by supplemental training and equipment preparation.

25 Aimo Memorial Day celebrated.  Statue of former President Howard Glass unveiled in centeral park in the fledglingly colony's capital city.

September 2: Anniversary of the end of the Vajra War.

8: Stargate activated for the second time.  Stargate mission begins and personnel and equipment head through the gate.

Quickie combat reminders:

1) reduce an object's SDC or MDC to 0, it is disabled or otherwise rendered unusuable.  Double the SDC or MDC to destroy it completely (ie: limbs can be used to block micro-missiles.  The limb may be destroyed, but the rest of the mecha is OK.)

2) players need to do an action write-up and action summary.  Further details: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/SFAQ.htm#Posting_Expectations

3) Limit actions to what's possible in 15 seconds.  Further details: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/SFAQ.htm#What.E2.80.99s_A_Melee_Action.3F

Toys:

Zat (Zat'nik'tel)

A weapon based off of Protoculture plans found in the Protoculture ruins on Rakusu [Rax].  The weapon wasn't ready by the end of the Protodevlin War, but was mass-produced from the 2050's as an effective stun and anti-spiritia/Protodevlin weapon.  The Zat is based around a spiritia-disruption beam, and is what the Varuta adapted to create their spiritia absorption weapons.
In general, against people the damage is negligible, but there is usually a strong headache, stiffness in the joints and general reduced ability for a period half the length of being knocked unconcious.
The Zat is extremely effective at disabling or destroying electronic equipment.  Of course, equipment hardened against space radiation is significantly more difficult.

    * Ammo Type: Energy
    * Operation: semi-automatic
    * Magazine: virtually unlimited against humans and animals.  1D4 additional shots against an opponent already knocked unconcious.  5 shots against electronics until depleted.
    * Range: 50 m
    * Damage: humanoids/animals: negligible.  See description.  3D6x10 SDC/MDC against electronics.
    * Stun: Save vs. Resistance to disease.  Subtract 10% from the save vs. target for each additional shot.
    * Stun Duration: 1D6 minutes from the shot that the character fails the save roll.  Add an additional 1D4 minutes for each additional shot

Random note: Jaffa also have a VF sized version.

Ma'Tok Staff / Staff Weapon

(VF sized)
The standard weapon used by the Goa'uld army and their Jaffa's, consisting of a metal quarterstaff with an almond-shaped head that splits open to fire a powerful energy blast.  There is a counterbalancing club on the back end, allowing the weapon to be used in melee combat at close ranges.  It is powered by liquid naqahdah.  In skilled hands it can be quite effective, but it is less accurate and slower to fire than Earth-made firearms; Jack O'Neill describes it as a "weapon of terror" rather than of war.  Heavier models of the weapon can be slung at the waist by a strap, or mounted on fixed or mobile platforms to act as artillery support.  Goa'uld ships are equipped with large-scale versions of these weapons.  The Sodan use a variant of the staff weapon with the back half removed, making it light and easier to carry.  This gives the Sodan staff the advantage of being able to be used one-handed, and it allows the weapon to be slung over the back, although it removes the weapon's melee ability.

    * Ammo Type: Plasma Energy
    * Operation: semi-automatic
    * Magazine: unlimited (?) multi-year use
    * Range: (2 m sized, 40-70 m)
    * Rate of fire: 4 (2?) shots per melee (15 seconds)
    * Damage: 1D10x10 MD
