Surface to Orbit of LV-426

After an all-nighter of partying, relaxing, and drinking, all in celebration of the success of their last mission, the Black Wraiths return to their quarters to gather their gear and get a few minutes sleep.

They all assemble at the terminal building of the small spaceport at the foot of the Terraforming Tower with time to spare.  All members of the Black Wraiths are present, Lt. Colonel Kim,  Major Kavryn, Captain Cassel, Captain Shan, Captain Larson, 1st Lt. Dempsey, 1st Lt. Jung, 1st Lt. Levi, 1st Lt. Hemingway, 1st Lt. T?tul, and Lt. JG Fletcher.

1st Lt. Hemmingway enters pushing a wheelchair.  In the chair is T?tul, well the latest clone of T?tul.  The clone hasn?t attained consciousness yet, and it isn?t expected to until the ship they are heading to is well underway.  Hemmingway?s current assignment is to monitor T?tul until he attains consciousness.

Looking out the window, they spot gun pod sized objects being loaded into the hold of the shuttle they will be taking up the gravity well.  It is hard to get a clear view of the objects, as they are wrapped in plastic and packaging for transport.  However, there is definitely a Varuta motif to the weapons.

The Lt. Colonel is the last to arrive.  Once she?s there, they head through the gate and up the arm of the building into the awaiting shuttle.

The shuttle taxis, and accelerates down the runway.  It gains altitude like a 747 until it is a number of kilometres over the new sea off of the newly formed coast to the West of the budding colony on LV-426.  It then puts her tail towards the sea and nose to the sky.  Its powerful engines rumble up to full throttle, and the shuttle rapidly accelerates out of the LV-426 gravity well.

Once in space, the shuttles engines throttle down slightly.  The shuttle passes low orbit, than the orbiting space station and a small flotilla of ships.  It continues up to a high orbit, and towards a massive fleet of about 27 UN Spacy ships.  Most of them are Bolognese Frigates.  There are a handful of Haruna, Guantanamo and Uraga ships spread evenly amongst the Bolognese.  There even looks like a Zentraedi Picket ship and against impossible odds, an Oberth Destroyer.  The shuttle gently decelerates through the fleet and lands on an Uraga Variant Carrier.

Passing through the airlock, and into the ship, the first thing that greets the Black Wraiths is the insignia of the ship: the CV-566 Brazil.  Standing next to it is the Captain of the Ship, 68 year-old survivor of Space War 1, former VF pilot and UN Ambassador, Commodore Yoshida, and the CAG of the ship, former transport pilot of the UNSMC and member of the Death Angels, Captain Daniel.  For those that knew him while he was in the Death Angels, he looks a lot older than he did when they knew him just a few months ago ? and even back then, he looked old!  His *knew* job as CAG has obviously worn him down.  However, despite the additional grey hairs and wrinkles, he has a confidence and regal air that he never had as a transport pilot in the Death Angels.

Lt. Colonel Kim and Commodore Yoshida quickly walk forward and embrace hands, like a pair of old friends.  They separate from the group briefly, and exchange words in whisper.  Captain Daniel steps forward, and not only shakes the hands of those he knew in the Black Wraiths, but also hugs them (correct me if I?m wrong, but I think that was only Kavryn, and Cassel (in the Archers.))

He spots T?tul comatose in the wheelchair.  He lays a hand on his shoulder and looks at Hemmingway.  ?Unbelievable what has happened to my old friend.  He?ll be all right, won?t he???

Commodore Yoshida and Lt. Colonel Kim return to the group.  Kim clears her throat to get everyone?s attention.  ?Black Wraiths, it will take a couple of days for us to fold to the location of the target? it?s either inside or on the opposite side of a dark matter nebula, beyond the roof of Sector 7.  I believe the area is called Sector 7 Alpha.  It?s an area unexplored by the UN and its allies, and we only have centuries old Zentraedi star charts to reference.  Who knows what is out there.

Nevertheless, we will overcome the odds that are stacked against us.  The mission is a simple in and out, gather recon and intelligence.  We?re planning for contingencies, such as if a target of opportunity appears during the mission.

However, we?re still forming the briefing for you all, and I believe most if not all of you are in dire need of a good night?s sleep.?  Kim winks at Cassel.  ?Therefore, your bunk assignments are ??  Kim rattles off a list of individual quarters on the ship.  All are within the same block off of the same hallway.  ?Get some rest, pilots, and assemble for a briefing tonight, at 19:00.  Dismissed.?

After the pilots have settled into their assigned quarters, and either before falling asleep, or catching a rerun after waking up, they see the latest news bulletin.

Evidence has been uncovered that the UNSMC investigation of the colony Thirty-Four* was initiated due to falsified information on the part of the Thirty-Four government.  The Thirty-Four government had claimed that due to an increase in the activity of extra-solar raiders attacking their colony, it warranted a substantial increase in the military equipment and capabilities of the colony?s defence force.  The now-disbanded Death Angels formerly from the currently disbanded MEU-13, were dispatched to the planet to investigate the governments claims.  The conclusion of the investigation was that an increase in the armed forces of the planet was warranted.

The extra equipment and personnel were later used in an armed revolt against Petite Cola, the company that invested heavily in the colony and is credited with starting, as is the case with numerous other Petite Cola colonies across the UN territories.  The legal action by the company against the alleged illegal seizure of their plant, offices and equipment on Thirty-four continues.

Soon after, the colony adopted its current name, and issued a new currency; Thirty-four joined the Sovereign Independent States movement, and sent its enlarged armed forces to assist in the SIS action on Eskar III.  It has been learned that the Thirty-Four government violated both UNG and SIS law, with the hiring of mercenaries to bolster its armed forces, and assist in the SIS led seizure of Eskar III, and the Eskar III government.

The UNSMC dispatched the MEU 13 to Eskar III and the MEU-13 subsequently attacked the civilian populace of the planet during what the SIS states was a legitimate legal process that saw the colony cede from the UNG and join the SIS movement.

The Free-Eskar III government, on Janix II, continues to protest the legality of the ceding, alleging that it occurred while the democratically elected government of Eskar III were incarcerated by agents of the SIS on the planet.  UNG investigators have been dispatched to Eskar III to report on the legal processes leading up to the Eskar III?s congress?s decision to cede from the UNG, and join the SIS.

Due to the falsification of the Thirty-Four governments claims to have been attacked by raiders, the UN Government dispatched teams to verify and clarify the incidents that the Thirty-Four government claimed were caused by raiders.  They have found evidence that the majority of the incidents were performed by the armed forces of Thirty-Four against its civilian populace.  Most distressing is the complete destruction of Tropicana, a civilian fruit-growing settlement which was the main supporter of having the colony remain in the UNG and under the paternalistic leadership of the Petite Cola Company.

The UNG has dispatched forces to annex the colony, bring the leaders of the Thirty-Four colony to justice, and restore the Petite Cola company to their rightful properties on the planet.  Martial law has been declared on Thirty-Four as a result of violence directed towards both the Thirty-Four government, and the UN Armed Forces personnel currently deployed there.

Mid-Space Fold: LV-426 to ?

After having slept off their respective hangovers, Lt. Colonel Kim summons Major Kavryn to her office on the CV-566 Brazil.  The Lt. Colonel has only an unpacked shoulder bag next to the desk, and a pair of datapads on the desk.  The office is devoid of decorations or even evidence that it has been used by anyone before now.

?Kavryn, dear, during the last mission? that was really stupid, sending in someone who doesn?t know who I look like, and someone that I don?t know.

She could?ve wound up dead at my own hands.  In fact, she came within a hairs breadth of it.  If it weren?t for her pathetic acting and attempts to come across as weak, that is.

As part of the squadron leadership, you have to do a lot more thinking.  As there are no second chances in the game we play*.  Make sure it doesn?t happen again.?  The Lt. Colonel glares at Kavryn, to underline her point.

?As the number 2 in this squad, it?s your job to not only make sure the mission gets accomplished, but also to make sure that everyone makes it home.  Understood, Major?!?  The bark that the Lt. Colonel turns the final words into takes Kavryn by surprise.  As the past day or so is proving, the Lt. Colonel has some pretty sharp teeth.

?Assemble the troops for a brief on the mission in 20 minutes.  Dismissed.?  The Lt. Colonel turns her attention to one of the datapads on the desk.  She turns the swivel chair away from Kavryn, giving a visual sign that the incident is over.

Twenty minutes later, in another room that appears as if it has never been used before today, the Black Wraiths assemble.  There are comfortable seats, and some nice big projector screens at the front of the room.

Lt. Colonel Kim sits to one side, as Captain Daniel takes centre stage.  ?We will defold some distance from the planet? basically, the light show that announces our arrival will take a good 30 to 45 minutes to reach the target area.  We?ll scan the area of the target, and dispatch the squad with a portable fold booster to go the final distance.  We?ll fold away about a light-month, and await contact or your folding to us.  If anything goes awry, we?ll fold in to recover you.

Kavryn and Cassel, you know your team the best, please break it down into fire-teams for the reconnaissance of the target area.  We don?t know what to expect other than it?s the enemy?s home base and to keep on our best behaviour.  You could either thin out the squad to maximize the recon gathered during the mission, but at maximum risk to the squad, or keep everyone in one or two groups, gathering minimal recon, but maintaining maximum safety.  Your call.?

T?tul wakes up and begins screaming.  He squeezes his head, and leans forward, continuing to scream at the top of his lungs into his knees.    Hemmingway can?t do anything; she neither ascertains what?s wrong with T?tul nor gets him to stop shouting.  Medical technicians are summoned from the ship?s infirmary.  They inject something into T?tul, and he passes out.  It?s the first time in about 5 minutes that the room is quiet.  It?s actually deathly quiet with only the sound of a rusty wheel squeaking as the wheel chair is wheeled out of the briefing room.

Captain Daniel?s, and I?m sure a few other pairs of eyes, are on Hemmingway, with an expression of, ?what was that?  I hope it?s not a bad omen of things to come.?

Lt. Colonel Kim stands.  ?Uh? I think that?s enough for today.  Everyone dismissed.?  She walks over to Daniel and they whisper a conversation.  Both of them glance in the direction that T?tul was taken.

* This is Kim?s own word.  She doesn?t know that she is in an RPG.  I think it shows a lot about how she perceives her job and the job of the Black Wraiths.

Feeling rather worn from the night before Mjuiri didn't look all that positive to begin with and the arrival of a new T'tul clone managed to nudge her disposition over firmly into the annoyed/irritated domain. She wondered how many times they would end up seeing him die before this whole mess was over with.

Settling down inside the shuttle Mjuiri closed her eyes trying to relax during their short trip.

Once aboard the short trip there was time for another reunion. This time with a former DA. Judging by the looks of Daniel worry and burden was widespread over the UN. By Zola I hope I don't look that much older... Daniels didn't let her dwell on those thoughts however as he surprised her with not only a friendly greeting but also a hug. Surprised as she where her response ended up looking a bit clumsy featuring a awkward smile and a few pats on Daniels shoulder.

Kim returned soon after to give them directions to their quarters and ordering them to get some sleep. Not that anyone, Mjuiri suspected, would need orders for that.

Mjuiri caught the news bulletin right before going to sleep and needless to say it brought up memories she could have done without. The disgrace of having her fighter turned to scrap on the ground while all she could do was watch came flooding back and as a result her dreams where dominated by a series of events all involving a certain 14.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Night
Being summoned to Colonel Kim's office wasn't exactly Mjuiri's idea of something fun to do soon after waking up. Especially not since she had a feeling she knew what it was going to be about.

"Kavryn, dear, during the last mission. That was really stupid <...> Make sure it doesn't happen again."

There wasn't even the hint of a question on why Kriwalyk was sent. Not the slightest notion that it mattered. There was no need to say anything else but "Yes, ma'am". The notion of no second chances felt odd when she thought about how she had ended up in her current position. She had advanced not through outstanding success but through failure. Someone fell and she moved up. Even when she herself had caused a failure she had somehow gained from it, at the cost of someone else's rank. It hardly seemed fair and now she had the "privilege" to see it from the "other" side.

As the number 2 <...> Understood, Major?!"

The bark caught her by surprise and even made her jerk. "U... understood."

"Assemble the troops for a brief on the mission in 20 minutes. Dismissed."

"Yes, Ma'am"

Getting back from her little metting with the Colonel Mjuiri went from door to door back at their quarters; making sure everyone where up. "Brief in 20 minutes."

20 minutes later they where all assembled for briefing. Despite being a rather unusual mission, the briefing itself couldn't quite measure up to the impact T'tul's awakening had. The scream was horrible to say the least and seeing as the medical technicians only option was to sedate him it was painfully obvious that they didn't quite know what was going on.

"Uh. I think that's enough for today. Everyone dismissed."

"You heard her. Lets get ourselves out of here." Mjuiri addressed the BWs in general before turning to gesture at Cassel and Hemmingway. "Cassel we have some things to discuss. Hemmingway, could you come over here for a sec?"

Leaving the room together with Cassel and Hemminway as the BWs move out, Mjuiri turns to look at Hemmingway. "Lt. I need to know what is happening with T'tul. That reaction just now didn't look like something that was supposed to happen. See if you can find out what happened and how his status is for the upcoming mission. Contact me if they are trying to deny you information and we will see what we can do. I doubt they can hide anything from us considering the upcoming mission." Making sure Hemmingway had understood  Mjuiri turned to Cassel. "We need to discuss deployment. What's  your take on this?" Mjuiri began the conversation as she walked further away from the rest of the BWs clearly indicating to anyone that she and Cassel had a private discussion.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Morning

Jung was feeling a mild headache from various things that he had done during the last night, until he saw the "new" T'tul.
He just felt like someone had slapped his cheek, and his not-so-awake state of mind immediately woke up. It was the first time
that he saw a fellow soldier he knew get cloned, although it seemed like T'tul wasn't awake yet.
Damn, that scared the hell out of me! Just as if I was seeing something unearthly, really unearthly...

Various thoughts were going through Jung's mind during the rather short shuttle ride. The mission of retrieving Lt. Colonel Kim
had gone well, comparing to the ones that he had done before that. In the two previous major missions, Jung was the sole
survivor of the inserted operatives. Of course, at least he survived with the hostage in the latter one, but he was still the only
one among the "normal" combatants. With the retrieval of the Colonel done with some casualties, but not all, he hoped that
it was a small sign that things are going to be a little different from now on. Thinking of the hostage, Jung made a bitter smile.
Dr. Freeman, I hope that we meet again, next time somewhere where it is not so hostile...

It seemed like one of the superior knows BWs (at least some of the so called "old members") well. Which was good, as friendly
superior can lead to a lot of possible advantages; starting from more effective chain of command, higher morale, better rela-
tionship with the high command, so on and so forth. Hell, you can practically make anything possible if the connections are good.

Jung was a little disturbed from learning that they are heading to an uncharted portion of this world. With little or no intel at
hand, he made a mental note that precaution should be doubled. He didn't pay too much attention/thought to the news
he saw on the bulletin before going to bed; he just skimmed through it.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Night

Jung woke up from a short, but sweet sleep. Before he headed to the meeting room, he took some bee pollen (AKA bee bread).
The natural concentrate tasted good, and almost felt as if he was having bee honey. He thought about picking up a pineapple
juice can on the way, but refrained from doing so, as he didn't want to spoil the serious atmosphere of the briefing.

The careful observation of how the two seniors of the Wraiths will make up the formation was suddenly interrupted by a scream.
The source was T'tul, screaming out as hard as he can for unknown reason. T'tul finally calmed down when he was injected
by something from the medical guys, and was carried away. "Uh? I think that's enough for today. Everyone dismissed."
"You heard her. Lets get ourselves out of here." A little nervous from the random event, Jung decided to really get a
can of pineapple juice before he went back to his quarters. As soon he got out of the briefing room, he started to look for a
vending machine, or at least somewhere possible to get one.

OOC: Fixed a grammatical mistake which may make the sentence confusing.

Hemmingway couldn't help but feel a little awkward as she pushed the latest T'tul's wheelchair towards the shuttle. She believed that it was a little creepy that her charge was the clone of a dead squadmate, and that he was still unconscious.

"I feel like I'm pushing a corpse around the place. Hell I think I'd feel more comfortable if I had been assigned to keep an eye on a resurrected Jesus Christ."

Luckily, for Hemmingway the shuttle ride to CV-566 Brazil was uneventful. She did her best trying to both keep an eye on T'tul and clearing her mind as best she could. Part of her wanted the clone to regain consciousness, so that maybe she wouldn't have to keep a constant watch over the Zentran any longer. Another part of her was releaved that the clone was going to regain consciousness anytime soon since she wasn't too confident or fond of the process used to recreate T'tul.

?Unbelievable what has happened to my old friend.  He?ll be all right, won?t he???

"Hell if I know. The process is still fairly new and he had memory problems last time we tried this," the doctor thought to herself.

"Sir, we believe he will be alright," she said while lying with a straight face, and making sure that her lack of confidence in the procedure didn't show. Hemmingway didn't like having to lie about it, but the last thing she needed was the real T'tul's friends getting overly worried about the clone's wellbeing.

Before going to sleep, the doctor watched the news reel with indifference at first, but became interested when details of the Death Angels came to light. She tried to recall how much of the incident was mentioned in the DA file that she had read sometime after joining the BWs.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Night

The briefing seemed to be going well at first, and Hemmingway was patiently waiting for her superiors to mention how the squad would be split up. When the T'tul clone suddenly burst into a screaming fit. She nearly jumps back in surprise at the sudden outburst, but quickly begins to try and ascertain what is wrong with the clone; however, her efforts prove to be fruitless, nor does she have any luck trying to calm him down. She was releaved when the medical technicians showed up and took him off her hands, though she didn't exactly approve their method of quieting the clone.

"Damn it! What's wrong with him? Did something not get cloned right? Did his memories get screwed again in a different manner? Crap! Everyone is looking at me aren't they?"

The redhead makes no attempt to count how many of the room's occupants are staring at her. She was beginning to wish that T'tul had refused treatment for his bizarre injury that led to this whole cloning mess. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything she could do to change the past, nor could she turn invisible or disappear from the room. Luckily, the incident with T'tul prompted the end of the briefing, and the doctor was very much inclined to head to her quarters, where she could avoid almost everyone for a few hours.

Hemmingway, could you come over here for a sec?"

The Hemmingway knew that the summon was coming. After all what sane CO wouldn't want to talk with the doctor charged with overseeing a subordinate that began screaming like crazy after regain consciousness.

"Lt. I need to know what is happening with T'tul. That reaction just now didn't look like something that was supposed to happen. See if you can find out what happened and how his status is for the upcoming mission. Contact me if they are trying to deny you information and we will see what we can do. I doubt they can hide anything from us considering the upcoming mission."

Hemmingway choked back on making the No Shit comment to her CO. It would have been in bad taste, besides she knew that Void was genuinely concerned with the welfare of the squad.

"Yes, Ma'am. I'll see how much they know about his condition and what they're both doing to treat it and to diagnose it. To be honest though, I'm more worried about them not have a clue then trying to hide anything."

Once she is dismissed, Hemmingway begins heading towards the infirmary.

"Joooy, time to see if anyone knows what is wrong with the clone and if I get denied information."

Vick was happy to be back to Duty, and yesterday party was fun, but it was a little strange: he was with peapole he don't know very much anyway, and his sickness was nt very helping for the introduction. He have fly with them, but he didn't fell really like a real member of the Team. so he stay a little out for the moment, trying to let them accustom him to the group.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Night

That's it. thas was the big real mission, and he was on it. Doy, that Sultan thing was a bit frightfull, but he had select a few songd just for him. He was beguinning to immagine what it would be to fight that famour Black Samba one-on-one, song agains't void, when the guy on the wheeling chair woke-up in scream. No idea about the situation, the guys just had said to him that he was a clone from one of the members of the squadron who died... He was a bit ackward about the situation, but he prefer not to say anything. Maybe he will have to sing for this guy, like Levi had done for him... It's a bit different playing for someone to go better... like a show for one person that you don't know well, or a practice with spectators when you have to give your full potential. But Levi was a good singner, not very on the improvisation style, but he have a good voice. They could have done a boys band.

The meeting was over, and the guys beguins to go away, and nobody asked him for something speacial, so he decide to make a move. He was new on the set: the better idea was to meet another new guy, and the Sino-american was what was looking at one of the newest recruit. He seemed like a solid guy, probaly a career military foot soldier or something like that. Dempsey managed to rejoin him in the corridor:

"Hi! I'm Vick Dempsey. I'm the new singner. I gess we didn't properly meet..." He said offering his hand to shake to Jung.

Continuing where she left of Mjuiri offered her own initial thoughts in hope to provide some initial substance to the discussion. "I would prefer it if we where able to cover as much ground as possible. With our numbers I'm leaning towards 3 teams. 2 teams of 3 and one team of 4. Seeing as this current clone of T'tul seem a bit... unstable..." A wry crimace and the slight emphasiz made it clear Mjuiri wasn't completely comfortable with this cloning thing. "T'tul would be part of the 4 man team." She brought her PDA up while talking and with a few final adjustments she held the thing up for Cassel to see. "I'm thinking something like this maybe?"

Quote
Kavryn          Cassel          Shan
Hemingway    Jung           Larson
T'tul                Levi            Fletcher
Dempsey

"Any thoughts?" She finished absentmindedly scratching one of her ears as she looked back and forth between the PDA and Cassel.

Mid-Space Fold: LV-426 to ?

1st Lt. Hemmingway questions the medical staff, whom are currently monitoring T?tul in the ship?s hospital.  They give her quizzical looks, implying that she is supposed to know more about the clone than they are.  One of them politely coughs, and says, ?haven?t you read the datapad that was sent with him??

Hemmingway remembers being passed a datapad by the medical staff in the Columbia.  As she had spent the whole night awake, she had stuffed it in with the rest of her stuff, and fell asleep soon after arriving on the CV-566 Brazil.

She returns to her quarters and retrieves the datapad.  On it is a complete physical workup of the new T?tul.  There is nothing out of the ordinary.  However, the data on the memory and mind transfer is most interesting.  It mentions that roughly a third of the original T?tul?s mind was transferred into the first clone.  Of the remaining parts of the original T?tul?s mind, roughly a third of that was transferred to this second clone.

There is a note that this second clone may be unstable and that Hemmingway is to use her discretion in treating whatever symptoms appear in the second clone.  He is physically capable of performing the mission.  It is up to Hemmingway to decide if he is mentally capable.  Final call on his fitness to go on the mission is up to Hemmingway.

When Hemmingway returns to the ship?s hospital, T?tul is gone.  The room is deserted of medical staff.  Hemmingway reads the medical chart.  ?Patient returned to consciousness at 22:23 hours.  Complained of intense headache.  Aspirin was administered.  Patient requested release.  Patient released as there are no medical grounds to retain him at this time.?

It?s extremely late in the day.  Nevertheless, Lt. Colonel J.H. Kim summons Major Kavryn to her temporary office.  She points at a pile of datapads on the corner of the desk.  ?Give this to the squad.  It?s about a new weapon you?ll be carrying.

Have you decided the division of the squad and mission responsibilities?  No?  That?s ok.  You?ve got another 24 hours to decide it.  We won?t be arriving at the drop point for another 30 hours.?

The datapad has the following information:
The Anti-Spiritia Gun pod, based off of the Varuta Spiritia Absorption Gun pod.  The wave length and means of energy delivery have been modified so as to render the weapon an anti-spiritia weapon along the same lines as the spiritia grenades and dogfight missiles.  It has a limited capacitor charge, so every shot must count.  Single shots only.  It can only be recharged on the ship.

The exact effects are unknown.  But be careful where you shoot.  The weapon?s discharge has killed a couple of flocks of Eden Chickens during testing on Eden.

OOC: see http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/spiritia_equipment.html (Scroll down to the Varuta Spiritia Absorption Gun pod) for the look of the gun pod.

BIC: Dempsey and Jung have wound up in the wardroom, talking.  T?tul walks in.  He is holding his head with one hand, as if he has a killer migraine.  He is using his other hand as support, as it looks like has trouble walking, and stumbles into the wall every so often.

He heads directly for the bar.  ?Bottle of the hardest stuff you?ve got!?  He barks at the bar tender, his voice betraying the pain that he feels.

With an expression of worry, and a nervous glance at Dempsey and Jung, he places a 750 mL bottle and a shot glass on the bar in front of T?tul.

T?tul immediately pours himself a shot, and slams it back.  He takes both, and heads towards a comfortable looking sofa-chair at a table off to the corner.  It?s next to a window with a view of Super Dimension Space streaming by in a multi-coloured wave-like pattern.

T?tul pours himself shots in rapid succession.  With each one, the furrow of his brow lessons.  He eventually leans back and lets out a sigh.  He stairs at the ceiling for awhile.

Hemmingway, having contacted the ship?s security, learned where T?tul is.  She enters the wardroom just as T?tul doubles over in pain.  He grabs his left arm; the arm on his original body that is slowly being eaten by a spiritia entity in another dimension.

?It hurts!  It f**king hurts!!?

With a delirious look to his eyes, and drool leaking from the corner of his mouth, he grabs the bottle, puts it to his lips, and starts drinking like there?s no tomorrow.

Having finished a good two-thirds of the bottle, he sets it down and gasps for air.  He spots Hemmingway.  "Why?!  Why'd those s**t heads have to f**king clone me!  AGAIN!!!

Urrrrgh!"  He doubles over in pain, grabbing, and squeezing his arm.  His eyes bulge, and he grimmaces his teeth.  He deliberately smacks his head on the table with enough force to knock over the bottle.

He leans back, a large bump already forming on his forehead.  He loosens the grip on his arm.  It looks like he has escaped the pain for a moment by making a new pain elsewhere in his body.

T'tul closes his eyes and lets out a sigh.  "About f**king time... there we go... there's the medicine I need... phew..."  he let's out another couple of sighs, and it looks like he is free of pain.  Of course, it also looks like he is as drunk as a skunk!

He opens his eyes a crack, and glares momentarily at Jung and Demspey.  He then looks at Hemmingway.  "Doc... a man'sh gotta do what a mansh gotta do.  It'sh alright now.  Gimmie a VF.  I'll shave the galashy!"

The second clone of T'tul looks the most rational and capable that he has since being cloned.

As soon as Jung got out to the corridor, a member of BW joined him.
"Hi! I'm Vick Dempsey. I'm the new singer. I guess we didn't properly meet..."
A hand was offered from the singer with a some kind of reddish hair, and Jung firmly shook the hands.
"C.H. Jung, but just call me Dennis. Former Marine Sniper, but now I'm an aviator."
A singer? I guess he's one of those Spiritia Warfare guys. Hope that he knows how to shoot...
Having a mental note in his head to find a place where he could get some pineapple juice,
Jung continued to talk with Dempsey while moving, exchanging stories of how each ended up in here.

The two eventually ended up in the wardroom, and while the two were talking T'tul walked in.
Ouch. It seems like he's got some serious headache. But wait, is he allowed to walk around like that?
Jung silently watched how T'tul "managed" his pain, as he had learned a lesson before to not interupt anyone
drinking alcohol. However, he did caught something interesting from T'tul's words: This ain't the first time.
"Why?!  Why'd those s**t heads have to f**king clone me!  AGAIN!!! Urrrrgh!"

Jung tried his best to hide his inner face of horror. "Twice? Resurrected, no, I mean, cloned twice!?"
Being respawned in a video game was nothing, but Jung had zero experience of it in real life, and also didn't
have any idea of how those who are cloned felt like. At least he knew that T'tul was suffering, however.
"Doc... a man'sh gotta do what a mansh gotta do.  It'sh alright now.  Gimmie a VF.  I'll shave the galashy!"
And you are totally drunk, thought Jung. Since T'tul's attention was at the doctor, Jung made a face indicating
'it's your call' toward her.

T?tul was wide awake, and ranted on for another couple of hours to whomever was in earshot about ?growing up? in a test-tube, and the vagaries of life.  In between an almost non-stop barrage of expletives, he proclaimed things like ?I know what one-hand clapping sounds like, and that trees scream when no-one is around to hear!?

Heading off to bed, T?tul made sure he took another bottle of ?the strongest stuff you?ve got left? from the wardroom?s bar.  The barkeeper had looked in Hemmingway?s direction for approval.  With a slight thought, she nodded in agreement.  Her logic being that a potty-mouthed, lucid T?tul was much easier to deal with than one screaming unstoppably.

The Lt. Colonel called everyone to a briefing.

?We?re about 1 hour from defold.  Your VFs are prepped, and loaded for launch.?

She then looked at Kavryn, Hemmingway and T?tul.  ?What?s the flight breakdown?? and ?Is he fit to fly??

For his part, T?tul was largely silent.  The thought of going on a mission in the immediate future has distracted him from his demons.  In response to the Lt. Colonel?s question, he gave a thumbs up, ?I?m BEEP ready to BEEP fly into the BEEP gates of BEEP hell and BEEP back again!  BEEP yeah, I?ve BEEP already BEEP done that BEEP for ya BEEP!?

"Sniper huh? Nice! I'll be sure that i'm not in your line when you shoot! They always say things about you "one shot, one kills" that kind of stuff... It's good that you are now a pilot: i was one too: i had just ended my trainning when they throw me in the spiritia warfare buisness. I had to come back to the command of a fighter; it's much more satisfying. but you, why did you become pilot?"

Having heard nothing from Hemmingway regarding weather T'tul could fly or not, nor having had any input to her suggested flight breakdown she figured she had to go with what she had.

"They always say things about "one shot, one kills" that kind of stuff.... But you, why did you become pilot?"
...And I've heard from the instructors that the phrase was not originally made from a sniper.
Jung scratched the back of his head while he heard the particular phrase.
An imaginary exclamation mark lit up when he was asked why he became a pilot.

"It's going to take a while. It happened years ago."* Jung took a sip of pineapple juice, and paused a little.
"It was a cold and snowy day..."* Thousands of memories were passing through his mind.

Jung was amused from T'tul's responce. Saving for the words in the middle, it was darn sure that his spirits were high.
Levi? ...Right, he was one of the spiritia warfare specialists. It took a while for Jung to recall the person's identity
when he heard the proposed formation. Literally anything can happen in this uncharted world, and he thought that
every resource should be counted and depended.

Jung wrote down the formation on his notepad and waited for any additional comments from the others.

The Lt. Colonel blinks a couple of times in response to T?tul?s outspokenness.  She looks at Hemmingway, who simply nods in agreement that despite his warts and limited vocabulary, T?tul is flight worthy.

The Lt. Colonel nods in confirmation to Major Kavryn?s flight breakdown.

"Maam, as the front line, what exactly are our mission? We create a hole in the defence so that the rest of the squadron pass or we just bait them?"

The Lt. Colonel gives 2nd Lt. Dempsey a strong look before breathing a sigh and settling back in her chair.  ?Yes? I guess a reminder is due.  More than one of us was drunk out of our skulls when we left on this mission.?

She leans forward, all serious like.  ?Black Wraiths, we are due to defold roughly 30 to 45 light minutes from the target.  This ship will scan the area of the target, and dispatch the squad with a portable fold booster to go the final distance.  The three teams will gather reconnaissance on the Sector Seven Space Pirates? home base.

We have no information on the base beyond its location.  Your job is to avoid detection, get the lay of the land, determine the defence capabilities and fortifications, as well as to try to find any entrances and spots of weakness we can employ, when the combined might of a Galaxy Patrol Fleet arrives to destroy the pirates once and for all!

Pilots, it?s the last chance to hit the restrooms and put some food in your bellies.  Meet in the hanger 10 minutes before we defold.  I want you strapped in, and the engines warmed on your VF-22, 5 minutes before defold!  Dismissed!?

As the squad gets up and leaves, Lt. Colonel J.H. Kim gives Kavryn an express of worry and doubt about the squad deciding to switch from pure recon to some kind of an attack on the pirates.  An attack that may force them to flee to a new hideout!

***

Defold

The ship defolds and immediately incoming sensor data is relayed to the HUD and cockpit screens of the pilots in their VF-22.

If that doesn?t work, try this: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60348807/

The Lt. Colonel?s and Leiagh Moss?s faces appear on sub-displays.  Leiagh speaks, ?I?ve? I?ve never seen anything like it!?

The Lt. Colonel quickly takes over.  ?Black Wraths, our expert on the Sector Seven Space Pirates doesn?t know about it? what I can tell you is that the target appears to be slowly orbiting a rogue planet.?  The structures in the small, zoomed in section slowly move in the direction that the arrow indicates.  ?It looks like it is a collection of structures, possibly Zentraedi ships that have been partially joined together.

It?s impossible to estimate either the size of the structures, nor the distance they are from the surface of the rogue planet.

Keep in mind that these live images have taken 35, no, 37 minutes to arrive here.  The structure will be in a different location.  We?ve estimated that you?ll defold on this side of the rogue planet.  If you head around to the left, you?ll be able to pop-up over the horizon and be able to get a lot closer, a lot faster, than heading right, and chasing after the structure.?

Commander Yoshimoto?s image replaces Leiagh Moss?s.  ?Don?t head to the planet?s surface!  The energy release needed to get back to orbit will surely be detected by the enemy!  It?s best to turn off main power, and coast in, or past the base.?

The Lt. Colonel speaks, ?you heard the Commander.  Stellar cartography has just confirmed that there is a lot of dark matter in the area.  It?s unclear what effects, if any, it?ll have on your VF engines and computers.  Major Kavryn, you must have individual missions ready for the 3 flights of your squad by the time you defold.  Good luck pilots.?

Everything except for the live image of the distant rogue planet fade from their screens.  In good time, and order, the squad launches, and forms up around a squadron sized fold booster.  Everyone gets close enough for the arms (like the launcher ones in DYRL) latch onto them.  The entire rig folds moments after the carrier folds further away from the target.

Everyone has a clear and clean connection to each other attached to the fold booster during the short fold.  T?tul speaks first, ?Man!  Is this just the BEEP!  This BEEP ride just makes my BEEP day!  Knowing that there?s a BEEP important BEEP mission after this BEEP BEEP BEEP ride just BEEP rocks my BEEP nuts!  BEEP BEEP BEEP yo!?

It?s about 1 minute before defold.

We will of course have to set exact times since we won't be able to contact eachother easily. Dempsey's comment made Mjuiri want to bury her face in her hand, but she resisted the urge to the degree that her only reaction was twitching ears and a determined stare straight ahead into nothingness.

At the Colonel's expressed worry Mjuiri could only assure her that no such attacks would be made and that she would make sure to make that point perfectly clear to her squad.

Defold

Mjuiri studied the data relayed over her HUD and listened on the added comments by the various people. Leiagh's brief appearance brought back a few memories and even though there where images among those memories she would have rather forgotten she still missed having Leiagh part of the squad. There was nothing to be done about that however, she had her pieces to play with and would have to make what she could with them. No sense wasting effort with wishes.

As the final fold commences T'tul is the first to speak, and in the spirit of further establishing himself as decidedly different from the T'tul she most recently knew, he made sure to spend alot of words saying nothing at all.

"Shut up T'tul!" Mjuiri hissed over the comms. "As you all know by now this is a recon mission. Our objective is to gather information and under no circumstances are we to engage in combat. If we are forced to do so we have most likely already failed our mission." She paused shortly to let that sink in.

"Now upon defold, provided nothing unexpected await us, I want Flight 3 to set up a safe distance away from the planet and the pirate base. Your objective will be to monitor traffic to and from the base. Take note of routes used when entering and exiting the base as well as any patrols you may find.

Flight 2 and Flight 1 will spread out a bit to survey the surrounding area. If they have any minefields, satelite bases or anything like that we need to know about it. We will need to also get sensor readings on the dark matter present. Be damned sure to be careful about any sensor usage however as usage of active scans is sure to alert anyone nearby of our presence.

We will later (OOC: See comment above post) converge on points xxx, yyy, zzz (something suitably safe) to share information and plan for a closer study of the base itself. Hopefully we will have gathered enough recon by then to plot a safe course for a closer "drive-by" or a position where we can hold above the planet/base and wait for it to pass below.

Remember when we converge to properly ID the craft before making any kind of transmissions. VISUAL confirmation. We want to avoid broadcasting any sort of identification after all. Any questions or comments? Make it quick."

Zed felt a little guilt as he paid just as much attention to Mjuiri as he was paying attention to Colonel Kim.  Seeing her discomfort he breaks decorum and rests his hand on her shoulder, just a moment.  Inside he wonders what Kim will make of it, given all the knowing looks she'd flashed him lately.  Does she know my feelings for Mjuiri???  Or is she interested in me?  She's seen me at my most vulnerable it seems, and has seen me all those years ago.  They may not have been years for her, but...come to think of it, did she have enough clearance to know about me back when I first appeared?  Is that why she chose me to lead the Archers?   His own doubt starting to nag him, Zed listened to the rest of the final briefing without comment.  He'd done a lot of things without comment lately.  What was happening to him?  There's just so much at stake.  Things will be fine when the SSP are gone.

Defold

Zed laughed.  It could be the stress, or it could be the normally stoic T'tul swearing graphically over the com.  "Shut up T'tul"  Zed calmed down a little, and was glad his mic wasn't open when he was laughing.  As he listened to Kavryn's orders on their deployment, he checked and rechecked the readings of where they knew potential dangers to be.  "Any questions or comments? Make it quick."  "Dream Weaver here, no singing, at least until combat.  No raising of your spiritia energy in any way.  We don't yet know what the Black Samba can detect in the way of Spiritia energy, but we don't want to give away our positions."

Rogue Planet ? Orbit

The squad defold in a high orbit above the rogue planet.  It?s hard to determine if the planet has a reddish hue, or if that is only from the red nebulae that the planet is in.

Immediately, the pilots separate from the fold apparatus, and begin moving towards loose formations of the flights they were broken into.

Below them is the fortress, and it is orbiting ominously slow.  http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60964673/ (make it larger by clicking the image.)

It is hard to determine the scale of the fortress given the lack of any recognizable object floating near or behind it.  Though, given the scale of the Zentraedi Supreme Commanders? Mobile Bases and the Factory Satellites, the fortress must be of a similar size, if not scope and purpose.

There is zero activity, both from the station and any other objects in orbit.

Those with the spiritia sight see a faint pinprick of spiritia energy emanating from roughly the center of the structure.  It is unlike anything that they have encountered before.  It?s almost like looking at the sun (albeit a pin-head sized one) if they stare at it.  Whatever it is, it is unmoving inside of the fortress.

Levi and Dempsey perceive more.  It is continuously releasing spiritia energy; energy which appears to be being consumed by unknown things surrounding it.

T'tul contacts everyone using the laser communications array.  "Man... I don't know about you guys, but ever since we defolded, my BEEP arm is BEEP aching... right where the BEEP doctors BEEP told me that my BEEP source clone had his BEEP arm cut off!"

Vick disconnect his fighter from the fold booster. From the moment his fighter had lunched from the carrier, he had sing, his micro gain and music at minimum to not really disturb anyone, an old good song "we built this city" from Starship, trying to get the group a bit of courrage. He thinked that was the least he can do.

"Dream Weaver here, no singing, at least until combat.  No raising of your spiritia energy in any way.  We don't yet know what the Black Samba can detect in the way of Spiritia energy, but we don't want to give away our positions."

At this order, Vick flip off his spiritia energy convector and stop singing, saying for himself as the reconfortant light of his spiritia power chime down:

"Now, how will i do to keep the tempo?"

But now, he was in front of this gigantic space station, he realisesd that this is it: he was at his first major mission, and he was in the first line.they where waiting that he act like a Spiritia Specialist. And he wil...

"Wow..." He said to himself in his cockpit. "It's so strong... so powerfull... It's like looking at the sun from pluto..."

Then he see the energy wave, has his fighter coming nearer that the station. At first, he find that fantastic that he could see such spiritia reaction, then he realise that, maybe the other can't see it like he can. Dempsey program his radio to make a laser connection to the others fighters of his group:

"Dempsey here. Maam, i don't know if you can see it like i do, but... There's definitly a strong spiritia reation inside that station: there is someone or something relasing spirita... It's like... A Fire Bomber concert... An anima spiritia emitting his energy and all the audience arround him capting it, boosting their power of hapiness... But, it that case, it's more like the anima spiritia is used like a power generator for recharging people or things... It maybe not an anima spiritia at al, but i think it is... That's very disturbing Maam, but it's fascinating..."

OCC: I can?t remember if I included an in-game mission time limit.  There is an out-of-game time limit.  4 turns, of which this is the first (3 more remaining.)

BIC: Flight 3 moves off to complete their mission objectives.  The other two flights remain unmoved.  1st Lt. Demspey, all by himself, accelerates to low/medium speed, directly towards the fortress.

1st Lt. T?tul, using the laser communicator, contacts the other three in his flight.  ?Oi!  What the BEEP is BEEP up?  Someone?s BEEP VF?s BEEP engine got BEEP FUBARed??

1st Lt. Levi is quite a bit more tactful when contacting his flight-mates.  ?Uhm? that fortress is creeping me out.  I?d feel a lot safer moving, and not sitting still, waiting for a giant energy blast to vaporize us.?

There is no reaction, or visible activity in, on, around or eminating from the fortress, aside from the mysterious spiritia energy source that only a few of the squad can perceive.

Mjuiri listened thoughtfully on the reports from her fellow squadmates as she watched the looming fortress orbiting the small planet. Though full of curses Mjuiri was happy T'tul had enough sense to report his discomfort, and she had to admit she preffered T'tul's rude vocabulary over Dempsey's report any day.

"boosting their power of hapiness"... She shook her head slowly. She couldn't see even a hint of the phenomenon Dempsey described and his description sounded both dorky and idiotic in her ears. He was right, no doubt, but she just couldn't come to terms with this spirita stuff.

"Oi! what the BEEP is BEEP up? Someone's BEEP VF's BEEP engine got BEEP FUBARed?"

Mjuiri wanted to slap her forehead in exasperation, but she needed her hands on her controls. LIning up her laser comm array with the rest of her flight she sent her orders. "Dempsey (OOC: Callsign?), get whatever passive sensor readings you can on the spirita phenomenon. If you can't get any.... just... just make sure you remember what you see or feel." I can't believe how stupid that sounds... She thought idly as she continued. "Lets move out towards xxx, yyy, zzz and scout out in the opposite direction of Flight 2. Lets see what we can find." Her voice was calm and just a bit too indifferent/emotionless.

Perhaps we can find something we can get proper sensor-readings off. With that she set her VF moving towards the mentioned area circling their target in opposite direction from flight 2, of course making sure she and her flight kept as stealthy as possible and that everyone was actually using their Active-Stealth System.

Jung didn't pay too much attention to Dempsey's mild joke, and continued his story.
"Before starting as a pilot, I was originally a marine, as marine sniper.
I used to be in a small taskforce, usually being assigned on things against terrorism."
He thought that too much detail shouldn't be revealed now. At least for now.
"Fortunately, the taskforce consisted of everyone whom I knew very well.
Things were going pretty good, and we actually felt proud of it."
A small smile was made from his face, something that was mix of bitter smile and a happy one.

"And on that snowy day..."
Suddenly he felt pain in his heart and mind. A sudden flood of emotions.
"Everything... happened."
His grip got tight as if he would break the glass he was holding. The great pain and sadness was filling
up in his heart. Someone was screaming stop!! in his mind, but so small comparing to the flood.
"That day, my friends... and my younger sister..."
It was the limit. The fragments of memories were slowly being put in its place, and pain followed it.
He couldn't continue. If he does so, he knew that once again he won't be able to control himself.

"Anyways, that's my answer."
Sometime later he was able to regain some of himself. Boy, I better think again before doing these.
It was then T'tul stepped in the ward. Jung turned his head toward T'tul.

Space recon was no joke to Jung. He would have felt much better if it was recon in jungle,
although he expected the direct opposite to those who are more familiar with space.
Now that reminds me of those so called space cowboys...

"Two Flight, begin recon on area xxx, yyy, zzz."
Jung didn't necessarily reply with laser communication, as he was sure that his senior would be able
to see what he was about to do. Besides, he also felt that comm should be used only when it's needed.
Jung eagerly scanned the area without the active scanners for any dangers or something unusual;
especially any form of traps. He didn't move too fast with ASS, just to make sure to maximize the stealth element.

Getting his eyes out of the magnificent spiritia phenomenon he was looking at, Vick get an eye on his instrument...

To see that he was alone.

He quickly look arround him, and saw the rest of his squadron behind him, near the fold booster. He had beguin to move without them, and didn't wait for the order. He slap himself mentally for that and reduce speed so that his squadron can rejoing him. a quick check show to him that his Active Stealth System was still on and fonctionning properly. His radio open on:

"Dempsey, get whatever passive sensor readings you can on the spirita phenomenon. If you can't get any.... just... just make sure you remember what you see or feel."

He respond on the same laser sight:

"Roger Maam, Trying to comply."  "Anyway, i don't think i could ever forget that! Even Basara and Mylene never done something like that!"

A quick look on his passive radar, full lens camera system, or even the geiger counter show anything that he could see, so he switch on his SES booster control but not booster system and try to get a good lecture of the Spiritia used in the sector.

(OOC: My character is making a spiritia warfare strategy check actually: He is using wathever spiritia sensor he got, or if he don't have one, he improvise one using the "spiritia meter" of his SES booster who show how much spiritia they relesing, but he point these meter on the space station., trying to get a reading)

meanwhile, he heard:

"Lets move out towards xxx, yyy, zzz and scout out in the opposite direction of Flight 2. Lets see what we can find."

Programing his auto-pilot, he let the plane follow his squadmate while he was occupied bye his analysis.

One and Two flights see and detect nothing.  Aside from the rogue planet, the unchanging fortress in its slow orbit, and the odd warbling of stars off in the distance (an effect of dark matter they were told in the briefing about it,) there is nothing of note.  The only thing that is out of the ordinary, is that the density of space is slightly higher in the area, but that could be due to the nebulae, dark matter, or both.

A quick glance in the direction of three-flight confirms that they are proceeding as ordered, and are also not detecting anything nor encountering anything.

1st Lt. Dempsey?s check of the spiritia meter reveals mixed results.  The area of space around the fortress has the normal ambient background levels of spiritia for space.  The station itself radiates only a slightly higher level of energy.  The area around the pinprick sees the spiritia meter jump rapidly off of the scale, and the pinprick itself burns out the sensor!

He pauses for a moment and remembers that the spiritia meter is designed for the average spiritia warfare specialist, and anima spiritia, such as Mylene and Basara would burn out the sensor as well.

As he turns to get a visual confirmation of the proximity of his wing-mates, he spots and extremely faint ribbon of oscillating dark-green spiritia energy just on the edge of his perception.  It looks like it is emanating from the fortress, and heading out into deep space.

As soon as he realizes that he saw something, as his focus is traversing towards his wing-mates, he focuses on where he saw it.

It is gone.

In brief contemplation, he surmises that he spotted it after staring at the spiritia-lacking console of his cockpit, and didn?t see it after looking at the bright spiritia released by his wing-mates.  Whatever it is, it could still be out there, he simply can?t see it as it?s hidden by comparatively stronger spiritia sources nearby.

Vick checked his now fryed Spiritia sensor: that was a very bad moment for that, just at the beguining of the mission. He make a note to himself to ask a technician back to base for a better spiritia meter in his fighter, if possible. He was about to say to M'juri that it was anegative on the sensor sweep, instinctly looking at his wing-leader, when he saw something: a faint ribbon of Spiritia energy, originating from the space station, and heading to outer-space. it was only for a second, and when he try to look at it a seccond time, it was already gone. Or more to say, fadded by the spiritia emanated by his wingmans. He look fast as his now unusable Spiritia sensors, then he activate his radio and pitch down his fighter, trying to get a better look by changing his point of view, and eliminating his team's spiritia out of his vision.

"Maam, i saw something strange, a Spirita ribbon beam of some sort, may could be an long range energy transfer, or whorst, some sort of spiritia communication form, i'm not sure. Moving to get a better view. Can someone do a spiritia sweep of bearing aaa/bbb/ccc for me? My spirita sensors looks damaged..."

Before 1st Lt. Dempsey gets a reply, he spots another faint energy ribbon.  Correction, he spots two faint energy ribbons.

He moves to activate a communications connection with the others, glancing out the canopy in their direction in the process.  He can?t see them.

He blinks, and then realizes that he can see them with his eyes, he merely can?t see their spiritia emanations.  As he tends to rely on his spiritia vision more than physical sight, they had ?disappeared? to him.

It takes him another moment to realize that they are inside of a vaguely spherical shape, matching the same colour and characteristics of the spiritia energy ribbons that he has been seeing in the area.  As he had been flying slightly ahead of the others in flight 1, he was outside of the field.

The radio crackles to life, with T?tul?s voice.  ?Oh my BEEP BEEP!  My BEEP arm BEEP hurts!  What the BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!  It BEEP just BEEP exploded in BEEP pain!

BEEP!?

Captain Cassel is suddenly overwhelmed by an intense headache.  His head is momentarily filled with the image of a giant bio-mechanical eye starring into his soul.

The others in flight 1 and 2 all have creepy feelings, as the small hairs all over their bodies stand on end.

A few long seconds later, Kavryn?s, Hemingway?s, T'tul?s, Cassel?s, Jung?s and Levi?s VFs are all violently shoved upwards and pushed downwards just as quickly.  With the sound of metal ripping, the Dorsal SES FAST packs are ripped off of their VF-22.

What?s most alarming is that as soon as they are separate from the VF, the FAST packs instantly disappear.  What?s more puzzling is that debris from the event, metal fragments, screws and so on, remain visible and float away in constantly changing trajectories.

The fortress is unchanged, and nothing else has changed in the area.

Vick saw with horror what happened. no more question: they undouptly know they where there. that was a direct attack and now they have to deffent themselves. He quickly pull the transformation lever to Battroid position, his two gunpods deployed in two diffent direction to cover a maximum of terrain and get a good look arround him to see if any enemy was there. then, he deploy the SES of his FAST Pack, and prepare a song. Nick send a radio comm to his leader; he realised afterward that his radio was still in laser mode and change-it after the communication was sended:

"Merde!!! Are-you okay Maam? No target in sight! I cover you! What is your orders?"

His head bounding, Zed fights to make sense of what just happened.  "Flight two, check in and withdraw," he says over the secure communication.  A quick glance at any damage reports has Zed very worried.  He maneuvers his damaged fighter back towards the withdrawal point for the black wraiths scheduled extraction.  This is not good.  Why do I feel like I've seen that face before?  What was that?

"Merde!!! Are-you okay Maam? No target in sight! I cover you! What is your orders?"

?Break and avoid!  Everyone to Battroid!  Circular formations with guns pointed outwards!? comes Major Kavryn?s reply over open radio.

Kavryn?s breach of radio silence piques 1st Lt. Levi?s attention.  He glances in her direction, and spots something similar to what 1st Lt. Dempsey had seen.

?What the heck?? he mutters to himself.  He immediately transforms to battroid mode, activating his SES boosters and aiming them in the general direction of flights one and two.  Concurrently he hums, building up a powerful spiritia energy to feed and be amplified by the thing in his throat.

He unleashes a powerful wave of spiritia energy that flings outwards like a shockwave from an unseen explosion.

His energy causes the energy ribbons seen by Dempsey to briefly become visible to all in a sparkling range of light blues and whites.  There are three ribbons in the area, and they connect to large spheres, spheres that completely surround flights 1 and 2, and one approaching flight 3.

Microseconds later the illuminated ribbons and spheres are stripped away, as the brunt of Levi?s spiritia shockwave whips through them.  With the spheres gone, 12 Black Samba Mk II* are revealed; 4 per sphere.  The spheres must have been some kind of uber-active stealth field.

As soon as the original members of the Black Wraiths see the Black Samba Mk 2, they remember way back when, mid afternoon on Monday, March 21st, 2050, when they were first introduced to the wonder and terrors of spiritia, they, or at least their astral selves, had seen the vehicles before.

3 of the Black Samba Mk II in each group are underneath and shadowing the movements of the VF-22 in flights 1 and 2.  They immediately spring to action, slamming fingers into the underbelly, and ripping out the two gun pods mounted there.  Cassel, Dempsey, Kavryn, Levi and T?tul, being more active than the others, all managed to avoid the attack.  Hemmingway and Jung lose both gun pods along with receiving minor damage.

As soon as they realize they are visible and that the majority of their prey avoided their attempted sneak attack, they drop what they are carrying; the dorsal FAST packs and the 4 recently taken gun pods.  They all fire powerful manoeuvring thrusters and begin rocketing away from the VFs, spreading further apart from each other in the process.

They each fire 38 dogfight missiles at each VF near them (Kavryn, Hemmingway, T?tul, Dempsey, Cassel, Jung and Levi.

The 4th Black Samba Mk II in each group remains unmoved as the others attack.  It has additional do?hickeys and antenna strapped to it?s back.

In flight 3, Larson barks at Shan, ?we?ve got 4 incoming!  What?re your orders?!?

*not that the UN Spacy has officially given them this name yet.??I imaged that they look something like this: http://www.macrossrpg.com/docs/index.php/Black_Samba_Mk_II  The Black Samba Mk II attacking the group have a launcher above both shoulders.

"we?ve got 4 incoming!  What?re your orders?!"

Four? Damn... we're outnumbered. And how the heck did they sneak up on us?! Shit....

"Fletcher! See if you can get a comms back to the Brazil. We've been detected, and are under attack by Mk2 Sambas with unidentified stealth technology." Shan replied, as he took aim at the approaching Samba Mk2s. "Larson, break and engage. We're going to buy some time for Fletcher to send the message. Then let's try to link up with the rest."

Shan briefly noticed the different equipment carried by the 4th Black Samba, However, he didn't have time to think too much about it. Knowing the power of the Black Samba's, they were probably out numbered and outgunned. Shan transformed into Battloid mode, holding on to the new Anti-spiritia gunpod.

Taking aim at the nearest Black Samba, Shan fired off a Spiritia Buster missile as they came into range. Then started accelerating sideways, trying to maintain a distance with the Black Sambas. As he did so, he quickly fired off another volley of 7 MMs at the group, trying to distract them away from Fletcher.

Rinse and repeat. As Shan's VF sped away from the others, he fired off another Spiritia Buster, and another volley of 7MMs. Comeon.... i hope this works.

Actions:
1) Message/Comms
2) Transform into Battloid
3) Fire 1 Spiritia Buster missile at nearest Black Samba Mk2 (Designate C-1?*)
4) Accelerating sideways and around the approaching group of Black Sambas, trying to maintain distance.
5) Fire 7 MMs at C-1
6) Fire 1 Spiritia Buster at C-1
7) Fire another volley of 7 MMs at C-1
8-9) Reserved for evasive/dodge/maintain distance from the Black Sambas.

* - Since there's 3 groups of Black Sambas, i'm using C for the 3rd group, and 1 for the first target in the group. :P The others would be C-2, C-3 and C-4. :D

OOC: Shan is trying to stay away from the Black Sambas, like a boxer circling his opponent. :P

Never a quiet mission. So much things where going on that it was getting difficult to keep track of it all. Everything happened so fast. Her SES-packs gone, the decloaked Sambas and their sudden surprise attack. Only good thing was that these extraordinary things happened so fast Mjuiri had no other choice but to focus fully on how to deal with hem and saving any musings over what and how things happend for later.

As the Sambas spread out and away from them Mjuiri's instinctual reaction was to give chase and put pressure on them. unfortunately the Sambas wasn't about to let that happen and made sure to cover their manoeuvres with large missile volleys, forcing her to focus on staying alive more then putting pressure on them.

Firing away volleys of her own to counter the incoming missiles she prepared to dodge whatever remained locked on to her.

"Spirita wizzies, try to disrupt them or their shields. Everyone take down their shields before you tear into them!" She yelled over the comms as she maneuvered for her own attack. She made a point of keeping herself moving so as not to be an easy target. She tried to take care in not moving too far from her squadmates however and her spirita specialist in particular in case he would need to be defended while he did... whatever it was those people did.

Actions(Battloid or so I assume from the GM-post):
1) Activate PPB (Or save for a parry or dodge f this is already on)
2) 2 volleys of 4 micro missiles at the two incoming volleys closest to her
3) Dodge / Use 2 Chaff/Flare
4) 40r gunpod burst at closest Samba
5) 2 volleys of 4 micro missiles at the two nearest Sambas
6) Dodge
7) 2 spirita missiles at closest Samba
8) 100r gunpod burst at closest Samba (ONLY if spirita missiles hit and seem to have taken care of the shield Otherwise 2 more spirita missiles;) )
9) Dodge

Free) Any dodge or parry I can get away with.

"Spiritia wizzies, try to disrupt them or their shields. Everyone take down their shields before you tear into them!"

That was a direct order, and the one he had waited to. With a big smile on his face, he press the flickering play button on his console, activating his SES in the same time. The rock music began to fill all the ears in the sector as the Spirita Emiter fillaly do their job, making the electric guitar and the drum alive like a rock show.

"Oh Yeah! I was ready for that! Levi, get into the tempo! Listen to that, buckelhead, Vous m'en direz des nouvelles!!!"

The pilot quickly dispose of the missiles lunched on him by a few manoeuver, some flares and a well placed flurry of bullet from his GU-17s Gun pod. Then, he sing with all the energy and passion he can.

(Fire bomber - Totsugeki love heart)

"LET'S GO!  Tsukinuke you ze yume de mita yoake ni
Mada mada tooi kedo
Maybe dou ni ka naru no sa, Ai ga areba itsudatte

Ore no utau o kikeba
Kantan na koto sa
Futatsu no heart cross saseru nante"

While he sing, he saw that one of the Samba was near him, so he put some missiles in the way, just to show him where the stage of the show was.

Actions:

Free: Fire 1 set of flares
1: 1 long burst of gun pod on the missiles who had not been distracted by the flares
2: Dodge
3: Dodge / Comm
4: Sing / Using Spiritia to concentrate energy for a Spirita Blast
5: Dodge / activate PBB
6: Fire 7 Dogfight missiles + 1 Spiritia missile on Samba C-3
7: Sing Louder :)
8: Dodge

This is not my lucky day  Slamming his throttle forward to get himself some maneuvering speed, Zed sets himself to dodging the incoming missiles while trying to target the lead clusters.  How many f-ing missiles?  Damn!  Selecting his micro maneuvering missiles, he fires off a salvo of seven and quickly targets the next batch heading towards him.  One more, then gotta drop chaff.  Squeezing of another set of seven micro missiles, Zed pulls away from the Black Samba group targeting his flight and drops countermeasures.  Dodging around and releasing a second set of countermeasures, Zed lines himself up for an attack run on the nearest Black Samba.  "Let's see what you got!" Zed says to no one in particular (not over coms) as he fires off a spiritia buster missile and switches to battlroid mode.

Actions
1.) Manuever/Dodge/increase throttle to gain manuevring ability/room
2.) Target a cluster of incoming missiles(targeting Zed) and fire 7 Bifors High Maneuverability missiles
3.) Target a second cluster of incoming missiles (targeting Zed) and fire 7 more BHM missiles
4.) Dodge/drop countermeasures
5.) Dodge/drop countermeasures
6.) Maneuver to engage closest Black Samba aggressor
7.) Fire one spiritia buster missile at targeted Black Samba
8.) Switch to Battlroid mode

Flight 1

Musical erupts in the area.  The good vibes not only being heard through speakers but felt, as positive spiritia energy begins saturating the area.

Major Kavryn?s first volley of 4 dogfight missiles explode in the most optimal positions inside the incoming cloud of dogfight missiles.  The explosions vaporize a large swath of them, and the shockwaves scatter some of the other missiles outwards, eventually causing them to explode as well.  Their shockwaves, being shaped and forced further outwards, and into the other 3 clouds of missiles aimed at her wing mates.  10 of the missiles fired at Hemingway, 22 of those fired at T?tul, and 10 of those fired at Dempsey are also destroyed!  Such is the power of a natural 20.

1st Lt. Dempsey releases a set of flares.  He is surprised by a massive explosion from the Major?s direction, followed by smaller secondary groups of explosions in the clouds of missiles aimed at him and his two wing mates!  His flares cause 12 of the remaining 28 missiles to explode, and another 13 to lose track of Dempsey.  He destroys the 3 remaining missiles with a long burst.

Hemmingway shoots and avoids the 28 missiles continuing towards her, and so too does T?tul with the 16 at him.

Kavryn follows up with a 40 r burst that does little more than ricochet off of the spiritia shield surrounding the Mk II.

Dempsey builds up spiritia energy for a blast.

T?tul and Hemmingway take the occasional pot shots at the Mk II, but are neither effective, nor hit by counterattacks.  It?s almost as if their levels are equally matched with the Mk II.

Kavryn fires another volley of 8 dogfight missiles to test the Mk II?s resolve.  The Mk II neatly avoids all of them.

Demspey releases the built up spiritia energy in a powerful, directed attack that hits 3 of the Mk II.  The spiritia shields around the Mk II attacking him and Hemmingway are stripped away, and the shield around the one after T?tul is partially depleted.

Instead of pressing an attack against Kavryn, the Black Samba Mk II pauses, and takes stock of Dempsey?s continuing actions and the havoc it is wrecking among its wing mates.  Kavryn takes advantage of its distraction with a volley of 2 spiritia missiles that explode moments after being launched.  The ensuing explosion dazes her for 1 action.  Such is the trouble caused by a natural 1.

Hemmingway continues singing and building up another charge of spiritia energy, as the Mk II facing him pauses and looks startled as it examines itself and appears to be looking for its now-missing spiritia shield.

The Mk II whips its head back to Kavryn in response to the spiritia explosion.  It pauses again, startled at Kavryn?s bizarre action.  Kavryn shakes off the effects of the spiritia explosion.  She feels extremely weak and tired (-3 actions per melee for the next 3 minutes.)

Dempsey releases another spiritia blast that strips the shields off of the two Mk IIs that still have them.

Kavryn, struggling in her extremely weakened state, squeezes the trigger with all her remaining might, and releases a 100 r burst at the Mk II in front of her.  It, being partially distracted by Dempsey?s attack, fails to dodge, and eats 650 MB of damage.  There?s not much left aside from chunks of armour that look like Swiss cheese.  Smaller pieces slowly drift away along with a clear light green coloured liquid or gel that quickly freezes.

Dempsey fires 7 dogfight missiles at the obviously confused Mk II approaching him.  It fails to dodge, and eats 560 MD.  There?s not much left of it either.

The remaining 2 Black Samba Mk II immediately disengage, fire their engines to a blaze, and retreat as fast as they can.

Dempsey continues singing and building up for another release of spiritia energy.

Flight 2
"Oh Yeah! I was ready for that! Levi, get into the tempo! Listen to that, buckelhead, Vous m'en direz des nouvelles!!!"

Levi shouts back a reply, ?right on!  Let?s rock!?  The good vibes not only being heard through speakers, but felt, as positive spiritia energy begins saturating the area.  The Black Samba Mk II seem to slightly slow down behind the clouds of missiles and swivel their heads, taking in the waves of spiritia energy now flooding the area.

Pulling hard on the HOTAS, Captain Cassel manages to avoid 25 of the incoming missiles.  The remaining 13 hit and explode.  Luckily it was all along the side of his VF opposite the cockpit and towards the rear.  As his VF crumples and flies apart, the cockpit section automatically ejects.  Due to the rough jarring impacts of the multiple explosions, Cassel is knocked unconscious.

Levi and Jung are much more successful in avoiding the missile clouds fired at them, having used flares to compliment their dodges.  Jung makes a few well aimed shots that are easily deflected by the spiritia shields around the Black Sambas.

Levi spots what happened to Cassel, and screams out something incomprehensible which sends an unbelievably powerful spiritia oscillation wave streaming from the thing in his throat.  The 4 Black Samba Mk II in their immediate area are batted around like leaves in a strong wind.  Their spiritia shields are almost instantly whittled away.  At the end of the barrage, they are left dazed and confused.  Even Jung gets a strong headache from the unleashed energy.

For his part, Levi loses his voice and passes out from over exertion.  His VF-11D Kai, being piloted by an advanced AI, keeps moving and acting defensively.  The quartet of Mk II regain their senses, and detect what has happened to their fellows attacking Kavryn?s flight, and opt to retreat.

Jung moves in and rescues Cassel?s ejected pod.  Cassel has recovered consciousness due to the infusion of energy by Levi, but he too has a strong, splitting headache.  Everything he sees is in a virtual white-out, as his spiritia enhanced eyesight is momentarily infused with energy.

Flight 3
?Uh? what?s a Mk 2 Samba?? comes Fletcher?s reply to Shan.  ?The only way we can communicate with the Brazil is to fold back.  Do you want me to fold back, sir??

Larson is more understanding with his response.  ?Sir, yes, sir!? he barks out, obvious joy in his voice.

The Black Samba Mk II are still some kilometres away.  The one Shan fires at easily avoids the missiles he fires at it.  Just as the Black Samba Mk II are nearing gun pod range, they suddenly break formation and rocket away towards the fortress.

Flights 1, 2, and 3

Before anyone moves to begin chase, the Black Samba Mk II have disappeared.  It?s unclear if they are out of sensor range, hiding behind something, or once more hidden in the spiritia powered uber active stealth field.

The fortress is quiet and unchanged from the time they first observed it, and there?s nothing on sensors or in view by the spiritia sensitives; even the faint energy ribbons are gone.

T?tul is the first to speak.  ?BEEP yeah!  That?s BEEP showing the BEEP who?s BEEP boss!  Next time you BEEP want to BEEP mess with the BEEP UN Spacy, BEEP remember who not only BEEP showed you dumb BEEP your BEEP, but BEEP ripped it BEEP off of your BEEP BEEP and BEEP gave it to you!?

Jung is next.  ?Cassel was shot down, and I think Levi?s injured.  I can?t raise him and his heat signature is dimmer than usual and getting more dim!?

Ow, what the hell?  It takes Zed a moment to full grasp what just happened, and some details are a little fuzzy.  Yeah, not my lucky day at all.  He looks around his cockpit escape pod, trying to get a view of what's happening.  He rubs at his eyes, or tries to but can't because of his helmet. and begins to panic.  I can't see!  I CAN"T SEE!  "Oh god," escapes his lips.  Don't panic.  Don't panic.  Everything's bright.  It can't be blindness.  It'll go away.  It'll go away.

OOC: One nat 20 and one nat 1? Geez, why setle for anything but the extremes

BIC:
Mjuiri could hardly believe the effort it took her to perform such a basic task as pressing a trigger. Luckily for her their spirita specialists had finally proved themselves truly usefull and there was no doubt in her mind that she had them to thank for her life. In her oddly groggy state she could do nothing but watch as the Sambas turned tail and ran, obviously scared by having their apparent immortality ripped from them.

T'tul's cry of joy if that was what it was, Mjuiri wasn't sure what it was but "joy" seemed close enough, and Jung's subsequent report of possible casualties just barely struggled past the thick haze that seemed to have wrapped itself like a blanket around her mind.

That is two out of three disabled, I think. Mjuiri's thought moved in slowmotion. That new guy can't get them both back. Someone have to help him. It a few seconds for her to link that final thought to an action, but when she did Mjuiri went on the comms. "Flight... uh.. Shan, move your flight to assist" the transmission was interrupted by a stiffled yawn. "... flight 2. Everyone gather at xxx, yyy, zzz for fold back to the uh the ship."

She opened up her visor and rubbed her eyes, the odd grogginess seemed to lighten somewhat and it finally hit her who had been shot down. "Flight 2 clarify on Cassel's condition! Was the pod ejected? Is he alive?" The grogginess was definitely letting up, and she was even able to make a mental note to be sure to detail the effects of a spirita detonation in her report once they all got back.

Vick didn't even belived what his has just saw. Sure, he has practiced long with Madona Squadron and use Spiritia again't alll sort of enemy, even if he didn't do many battle, but it was usualy Zentradi or Varuta. If the effect where distractfull on them, it was never that powerfull. Sure, it was good to get all the enemy go back to our side, but they where 6 VF-11 Kai in a fleet battle, so something like that never happen. Here, a small group of specialist, and they where alone again'st some of the most powerfull Spiritia using force, and he neutralised their more powerfull use of the Spiritia, all alone! And he even be able to destroy one!

It was obvious that was the power of the Spirita like it was call by the scientists: The Full Power of the Crucial Moment. FPCM was seen and theorised by Doctor Chiba During the Macross 7 war, but Vick never experienced it. That was Fantastic! He nearly missed the Refrain in astonishment. Aquick look show that Levi dome better than him in only a note. He was so much experienced that everyone he could have seen, and he hoped that one day they could do better togheter.

Dempsey overheard while signing that some of the squadron where hurt, so he sing for them.

"Yozora o kakeru no love heart, Moeru omoi o nosete
Kanashimi to nikushimi to, uchiotoshiteyuke
Omae no mune ni mo love heart, Massugu uketomete destiny
Nanioku kohnen no anata e, Totsugeki love heart!!!"

Actions:

1: Change to Gerwalk mode
2: Sing / Using Spiritia Power to help the Squadron felling better
3: Fly arroud the group
4: Sing / Using Spiritia Power to help the Squadron heal
5: Fly arroud the group
6: Sing / Using Spiritia Power to help the Squadron regain consciousness

Everyone responds to Kavryn?s orders by doing them, and not replying; as per protocol.  Jung clarifies, ?Cassel is? heat imaging shows me movement.  I can?t determine if he?s injured or not.?

Cassel?s sight begins to return.  He can make out some light grey amongst all the white; especially if he looks out the canopy at space.  As Dempsey gets closer to him, his eyesight restores at a slightly quicker rate.  Instead of light grey on white, he now has dark grey (space), and light grey; the interior of the cockpit.  He can make out the basic shapes of things in there.

Levi is still unconscious, though it looks like he?s stabilizing or has been stabilized by Dempsey?s spiritia activities.

Nothing shows up on Dempsey?s active radar.  The area is as silent as it was before the attack.

Roughly 250 to 300 Km away, something massive comes out of Super Dimension space and defolds.  It immediately starts shooting.

It takes a moment for the brightness to clear out of everyone?s eyes, and another moment before everyone realizes that the ship that just defolded isn?t firing at them, but at the Fortress.

Another second or two passes as the pilots zoom in on the ship, and they realize that it?s the CV-566 Brazil!  It?s already fired eight reaction missiles at the station, and is firing a continuous barrage of energy from it?s handful of anti-ship cannons.

Commander Yoshimoto appears on everyone?s screens.  ?Get back to the ship double-time!*  Tell me the weak points of the Fortress that you?ve observed!

The first shots from the carrier?s guns near the Fortress.  In a spectacular fireworks display, they are deflected and possibly absorbed by some kind of invisible shield or PPB around the Fortress.  It?ll take another half a minute or so for the reaction missiles to hit.

*Everyone knows that the Brazil is a carrier, not designed for sustained fleet engagements.  The longer the ship is in the area, the more likely their escape ride will be shot down.

OOC: moving the game forward a bit.  Yup, I?m excited for things to come, and figure that you all can play any reactions to the preceding post in the response to this post.  ;)

The Black Wraiths return to the CV-566 Brazil.  It?s fired another volley of the humongous ant?-ship sized reaction missiles at the Fortress, along with continuing fire from the anti-ship cannons.

Just as the Black Wraiths are coming in to land, the first volley of reaction missiles hit.  The redness in the area is turned into a more normal looking white, which is blindingly bright, being reflected off of the rogue planet and the surface of the ship.  Graceful arcing shockwaves can be seen gently flung out from the giant blindingly bright orbs that mark the explosions.  Given the actual speed of those shockwaves, they provide a good size reference for the Fortress, and the scale is mind boggling.  It?s definitely similar in size to Boldolza?s Fortress (SDF:M version, not DYRL.)

Just as their VFs are being taken within the ship by the elevators, the brightness of the explosions fade.  The fortress is completely unscathed.  A few very faint pin prick sized white dots form on it?s surface, and leap out, destroying the 2nd and 3rd waves of reaction missiles in significantly smaller and less bright explosions.

As soon as the outer hatches are closed, the ship begins moving violently, as it performs avoidance manoeuvres.  So far, it hasn?t been hit.

Commander Yoshimoto appears on their screens once more.  ?We deployed VFs via fold booster to monitor activity at the Fortress at daily intervals for the preceding 2 weeks.  The fortress was active until approximately 3 days ago, about the same time that we started our journey here.  It?s been silent since then.

We folded here, as we just received a super dimension space communiqu? that New Patagonia has been destroyed by the sector seven space pirates!  We?ve been ordered to head there ASAP!

We?ve only got a short window to attempt to damage the fortress as much as our arsenal allows, or to see what defences they have in store for next time.  Hold on, it?s going to be bumpy until we fold.  I want reports from all of you on my desk by the time we fold!?

The ship shudders violently, and power briefly flickers out.  It was an impact of some kind and it looks like the ship?s PPB absorbed it.  Battle stations klaxons fill their ears as they open their cockpits.  Along with the steadily rising hum of the fold generators building up for an emergency fold.

As her vision cleared and the order came for them to return to ship there was little else to do but comply. She did however take special care to make sure every last one of her squadmates where brought along. No one where to be left behind.

From within the ship they had little knowledge of wat was going on outside, but Commander Yoshimoto soon contacted them to fill them in on the details. "<...> I want reports from all of you on my desk by the time we fold!"

"Commander, the only bit of information we can offer is that there are Samba's here, with advanced cloakfields. The only possible weakness I can offer is that our spirita specialists have reported some sort of spirita reaction from within the core of the fortress. Apparently a very powerful one. And get a medical team down here, we have one riding an escape pod, condition unknown."

Mjuiri hardly noticed the rocking of the ship and the flickering lights as she hurried to exit her craft. Soon as she was free from her cocpit she hurried towards Cassel's escape pod. "Stay together, and be prepared. Nothing is certain until we fold away." Mjuiri transmitted to the rest of the BW's over the suits comm as she moved towards Cassel's pod. Reports on your desk by fold? Screw that!

Zed sighed and concentrated on breathing and digesting the information around him.  There was little else he could do, even as Commander Yoshimoto demanded reports.  His vision seemed to finally be clear, though his head still ached.  Finally judging that his pod was fully secure, Zed popped the seals and achingly pulled himself out.  He stops to look it over as he pops his helmet, completely unaware of Mjuiri moving up behind him.  How many more chances do I get?

Half running through the hanger looking left and right as not to run into something or be ran into by something, Mjuiri didn't notice Zed had got out of his pod until he was already out, seemingly inspecting his pod.

Seeing him alive and well enough to atleast move around was a huge relief to her, and she stopped to just breath out. Thank the spirits he is alright She was too relived to even be bothered by how praising spirits reminded her of her Zola and her past there. She didn't know wether she wanted to smack him for not worrying her or hug him for being alive. Her squadronmates made the choice for her though, by simply being present. She would have to go with a third option.

"Zed? Are you alright?" She carefully put a hand on his shoulder masking affection with worry for someone potentially wounded.

Only slightly startled by Mjuiri's hand on his shoulder, he turned and smiled to her before wrapping his arms around her, lifting her up, and kissing her deeply in front of everyone.  Aside from the sounds of hustle and bustle in a red alert, the sound of his helmet crashing to the ground seems to echo through a vacuum of shocked silence for onlookers.  Setting Mjuiri gently down, Zed closes his eyes and sighs before responding.  "Yes, yes I am.  And glad to be alive."  He bends down to pick up the dropped helmet and sheepishly scratches the back of his head as he looks past Mjuiri towards the other pilots.  "You guys all ok?"  A lobsided grin graces his fast and he bends down to kiss Mjuiri on the forehead before grabbing her arm in his and dragging her back to the other pilots.

Once feeling assured that everyone in the squad was alright, worry began to set in inside of Zed.  Last I'd heard the M-15 fleet had put in for repairs at New Patagonia.  I can't have just gotten them back only to have them taken away from me.  Gotta find out as soon as I can.  Christ, gotta focus.  I just kissed Mjuiri in front of everyone.  If I'm not already in deep **** for losing my fighter, that's going to seal it.  Zed stops walking as his thoughts return to the dire situation he and his crew are in.  No impact on the fortress.  I'd never seen anything so big in my life.  We're going to need some kind of reaction missile yield sized spiritia weapon to take that on.  Only thing that might work.  New Patagonia was heavily defended and they didn't stand a chance against the SSP.  What are we going to do?

"Did you guys see anything at all that might have indicated what those variant Sambas were?  We need to find a weakness to the SSP or we're toast."

Vick lands his Gerwalk VF-22 in the hangar, with the others, and when it was safe to, he open his canope and raise up in his cockpit, stretching his arms and legs with a smile on his face: His first battle, and already one kill, and what a kill!!! A Black Samba! but that model seemed different from the one he saw in trainning; Maybe a weaker, older model seeing from the facility the squadron dispatch them.

The Squadron leader, M'juiri was one of the first to get out of her ship and to look if every one was okay.

"Stay together, and be prepared. Nothing is certain until we fold away."

"Aye-aye, Maam."

Vick set down again on his seat and remove his helmet, getting a quick self-test of his fighter. A few seconds later, He catch, with a blink of his eye, Zed kiss M'Juiri... Vick smiled as he now realise one of the little secrets of the squad. Zed Was lucky: The Zolan girls looked very cute. He sing not too loud, just enouph so that they can hear:

"Nanioku kohnen no anata e, Totsugeki Love Heart..."

Zed's looked a bit shy, and looked on the others pilots:

"You guys all ok?"

"Yup... Maybe not as much than you..."

after a couple of laughs, the atmosphere seems a bit more serious.

"Did you guys see anything at all that might have indicated what those variant Sambas were?  We need to find a weakness to the SSP or we're toast."

"Well... Is it just me or that seems a bit easy? I mean: maybe the only big thing on these model is their stealth mode, cause if i remember correctly, in trainning, the other model of Black Samba where MUCH more touph to stop... We were a nearly one-on-one fight, and if i remember correctly, last time you got a black samba, you where four agains't him. If Levi and I was all that make the difference in that combat, we know what New Pantagonia need: SoundForce and JammingBirds."

Zed's embrace caught her completely off guard and so did, of course, the kiss. Once again life had refused to conform to her plans. She had to admit that this deviation was of the more pleasant kind and the kiss itself was breathtaking enough to dam the torrent of worried thoughts that lurked in the back of her mind.

"Yes, yes I am. And glad to be alive"

Despite having both her feet back on deck Mjuiri still felt slightly dizzy. She had lost her focus and that made her vulnerable to the effects of whatever chemicals her body had produced in response to the wildly fluctuating emotional spectrum she had experienced up until now. All she managed to do as Zed picked up his helmet was staring in disbelief and nervously look around trying to judge just who where looking and what their reactions seemed to be.

"you guys all ok?"

Zed spoke again and she looked back at him, ears sloping downward as she looked up at his smiling face. She had planned to say... something, but she didn't, and Zed kissed her forhead and began more or less leading her back towards the rest of the pilots before she managed to regain her composure and walk more on her own accord instead of being dragged along.

Dempsey's reply to Zed's question about their well being earned him a glare from Mjuiri that despite her still showing hints of embarrassment managed to convey a warning not to continue that particular train of thought.

Zed however managed to steer the conversation back to something in Mjuiri's eyes much more easily discussed, The Samba's and the search for a weakness. Atleast Dempsey seemed to bite, sharing his own thoughts on the matter.

"Well... Is it just mer or that seems a bit easy? <...> we know what New Pantagonia need: SoundForce and JammingBirds"

"The Samba's have begun relying on their shields. Getting damaged for real is obviously new to them. Spirita do seem to disrupt them, but I doubt we can count on catching them by surprise the next time. They all felt the effects and some of them got away. But yes, Spirita weapons are a must to fight these things." Mjuiri unconsciously put emphasis on the word weapons. "Good job out there everyone. Now lets get ourselves to the ready rooms. We will just be in the way out here."

Despite the forward progression to the topic at hand, Zed found his thoughts trailing to Mjuiri herself as she spoke.  Everything registered, it just wasn't his focus.  As she led the way to the ready rooms, he caught himself walking a step behind and admiring her posterior.  Easy boy, we got a job to do.  He stepped up the pace to walk even with her, and thought about the problem at hand.

"You guys remember what happened with those cicada?  Back when we were first getting checked out on twenty twos and there was the explosion?  Let's see if Yoshimoto can get us one of those.  At the very least we might be able to dent that fortress."

Rogue Planet ? Orbit

"... And get a medical team down here, we have one riding an escape pod, condition unknown."

Commander Yoshimoto looks distracted as he listens.  ?Understood,? comes his distant reply.  To someone else in the command center where he?s communicating from, he barks, ?send medics to the hangar!?  He then cuts the connection.

The ship shudders violently and is sent off course.  As it feels like a medium sized earthquake, it?s a fair bet that the latest volley of anti-ship reflex missiles were detonated relatively close to the CV-566 Brazil.

Captain Cassel?s vision has returned completely to normal, though he notices that the spiritia glow of people and the spiritia munitions is brighter than normal.  Though, he also thinks that it might just be all in his mind, as he?s still new to that ESP.

"Did you guys see anything at all that might have indicated what those variant Sambas were?  We need to find a weakness to the SSP or we're toast."

T?tul is the first to reply, ?BEEP upgrades?  BEEP man oh BEEP man!  Those BEEP mother BEEP sure BEEP ain?t BEEP good at BEEP much other than BEEP getting blown to BEEP big BEEP!  They BEEP seamed to BEEP be over BEEP reliant on their BEEP missiles launchers, and didn?t BEEP give a BEEP about anything else.  BEEP good for us!?

The ship shakes violently for a split second, and warning klaxons sound.  Accompanying them is a faint breeze ? the ship?s been breached!  Emergency hatches and seals lock in place a few moments later, and the sound of a damage control team being ordered to the damage areas can be heard in the background.

T?tul obtusely asks, ?Where?s Levi??  A glance over in the direction of Levi?s VF-11D Kai reveals that it is unmoved from where the ship?s inboard taxiing info system had instructed it to go.  It isn?t in a proper parking spot.  The cockpit is still closed as the battroid stands there serenely.

When Dempsey looks, he is alarmed.  Not so much that Levi?s spiritia emanations are weak, but that there is a small wisp of cloud floating just off of the cockpit section.  It?s unlike the faint neon-green glow to the eyes of the others who have advanced spiritia vision; which Dempsey notes is glowing brighter and more powerfully than normal.  It?s because it?s glowing a faint-brownish red colour, something that he has never seen before.

The wisp of cloud heads directly towards him, and stops about 1.5 m away.  It floats between 1.3 and 2.0 meters off of the deck.  Inside of his head, he hears a faint, extremely muffled voice.  It?s completely unclear, but he thinks it might be a human language.

The ship shudders, and then appears to be shaken into 3 or 5 identical copies.  It?s the standard optical illusion when a ship enters Super Dimension Space.  The ship has safely folded!

The moment that the ship enters the space fold, the wisp of cloud glows brighter, revealing 4 hazy appendages, two from the upper sides, and two from the bottom.  Once in Super Dimension Space, the enhanced view dissipates, and Dempsey can only discern the original wisp.  Though, he clearly understood one word from the wisp during the enhance view state:

LEVI!

Zed is in damage control mode the moment the decompression klaxons sound.  Where's it coming from?  He doesn't even have time to move to a damage control station to report for emergency duty when the seal seems to contain the breach in the section of ship they are in.  "Where's Levi?" ****, nobody told me he was hit.  How did I not notice?  He looks around the hanger anxiously for Levi's fighter, internally berating himself for being so preoccupied with Mjuiri.  ...safety of my men first.  He's not even that strong of a pilot...

Zed looks around and tries to get the attention of an emergency medical crew, or even a deck officer, but everyone seems preoccupied with preparing to fold and the damage the ship has incurred.  Before he can run off for help, he experiences the side effects of a successful fold.  Not noticing Dempsey's reaction to the spiritia event, Zed runs to get an emergency crew to open up Levi's fighter and provide assistance.

******Leaving room for the actual response of crew and GM*********

Once things settle down enough for the Black Wraiths to leave the hanger, Mjuiri pulls Zed aside for a talk.  Internally Zed is full of turmoil, his heart in his throat.  I can't believe what's happening.  I hope she's not pissed off.  She sure looks beautiful, even with the grease and grime of combat still marking her face.  Is that what love is?  Seeing the best of someone even at their worst?

OOC: I apologize for the delay in posting.  I was in contact with Mr.F earlier in the week and we discussed the events unfolding and what we would like to see happen between Zed and Mjuiri.  Mr.F informed me that Mjuiri would definitely want/need to pull Zed aside to talk to him/dress him down for his conduct in front of the other squadron members, and maybe some other things as well.

"Oh my godness, he... He's just... His soul is... He's soul have disemboled from his corpse! His Spirit left his body!!!"

Saying that, a light just pop in his head:

"Spirit... SPIRITIA!!!! This must be some kind of Spirita Phenomenon! Never heard of somthing like that that but that must be it!!! I have to sing!!!"

Then he run away to his fighter, shaking, and try to get inside. (witch is hard since it's in Gerwalk mode)

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

Cassel spots Levi?s VF-11D Kai.  It?s unmoved, standing in Battroid mode in the center of the hanger ? an odd place, given that everyone was told where they were to park their VFs.  Lervi?s VF looks undamaged, but he can see Levi slumped over the controls in the cockpit.  He blinks and realizes that he doesn?t really see Levi, as the armoured canopy is still sealed, but his spiritia form.  What alarms Cassel the most is that Levi?s spiritia, which is usually brighter than a 100 W lightbulb, is dimmer than the average person when they are asleep!

The vaporous apparition follows Dempsey.  Shan spots it briefly, rubs his eyes, and then can?t see it.

As Dempsey scrambles up into the cockpit of his parked VF, he expends spiritia energy which causes his vision to clarify the vaporous apparition.  He stops as he makes out the white and red of a Space War I era VF pilot?s uniform.

Dempsey briefly recalls his briefings and classes in spiritia phenomenon and astral projection.  Most viewers of an astral projection reported either a form and shapeless vaporous cloud, a disembodied face or head, and rarely, what the person doing the astral projection was actually wearing at the time.  Dempsey knows that it is impossible to wear the SWI era uniforms under the Special Forces VF-22 pilot suit that he saw Levi in before leaving on the mission.  He surmises that it can?t be Levi!

He almost misses what the apparition is saying during his thoughts.  ?Apollo Base? Spiritia Fountain? Levi? must? go!?

The apparition begins fading completely from sight.  Dempsey instinctively knows that it?s used up whatever spiritia it had and is beyond his perceptions now.  Perhaps Levi would be able to still see it, if Levi weren?t incapacitated.

High Orbit of New Patagonia

1st Lt. Black?s ship had just defolded and she was given launch orders.  No particular objectives other than to take a squad of green sticks, as she describes them, in a patrol to check for survivors, dispose of any threats that may be out there, and capture all opponents for interrogation.

She had a vague idea of what could be lying in wait, in the clouds of scattered debris around the planet, as she had spent the last few weeks and months studying the Sector Seven Space Pirates during retraining on LV-426.  She was happy about that, as it put her behind the best of the VFs in the UN Spacy arsenal ? a VF-22 with SES Super Parts.  However, she had also studied the Black Samba extensively, and being one of the extremely few people to have actually interacted with one, let alone had physical contact with one, she knew the potential danger in her current mission.

She briefly cursed the Black Samba, if it weren?t for it contacting her during her free fall after ejection over the skies of LV-426, she would have stayed with the fleet that her father had directed her to, and would have had a normal military career battling normal foes.  Instead, after a few months on the front lines, she was placed into the bizarre, baffling, and some times frightening world of Spiritia Warfare Specialists; where she was to be the leader, or an elite member of another secret UN Intelligence Spiritia Warfare Special Forces Squadron.

Before other trained specialists came, the Sector Seven Space Pirates came calling, and left their mark on New Patagonia.  1st Lt. Black couldn?t even bring herself to glance in the direction of the planet, knowing how many had died, and unlike her wing mates, how many could possibly still be out there searching for the answer to why they had their bodies? stripped from them.  That was one of the important lessons that she had learned in Spiritia Warfare School ? death wasn?t necessarily the end of life.

Shaking those thoughts out of her head, she concentrated on the mission.  A few of the green sticks were slowing down and flying less animatedly while others were become overly reactionary to every object that came into sight.  This must have been their first experience on a battlefield full of corpses after a major battle.

And what a major battle it must have been.  Strewn about were chunks of UN Spacy equipment, ranging from space ship down to space suit, with plenty of debris from a plethora of VFs.  Amongst the debris, she could discern the remains of Zentraedi or Meltraendi mecha parts, and what could be Varuta or Black Samba.  She wasn't experienced with either to know what exactly the parts are from.

There wasn?t anything living alive, and the only things that showed up on any sensors, are residual charges in batteries that survived the destruction of whatever they were originally mounted in.

Approaching what looks like the nose cone of a Bolognese Stealth Frigate, she detects a faint IFF signal on the opposite side.  It?s not UN Spacy.

One of the more gung-ho members of the 12-man VF-19 squad she is with has also picked up on it.  ?Enemy mother BEEP ahead!  Let?s blast that mother BEEP to kingdom BEEP come and show them that they can?t BEEP vaporize a BEEP UN planet without getting BEEP themselves!?

1st Lt. Black spots about half the squad accelerating past her, with their leg weapon pallets opening up, readying themselves to fire a disgusting amount of missiles.

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

"Shit!" Mjuiri hissed as T'tul mentioned Levi. She had totally forgot about him since he had managed to make it back to the ship with the rest of them. A little whisper at the back of her head suggested other reasons for her to miss out on Levi's status, but she forcibly ignored it and hurried after her squadmates back towards Levi's VF.

Her other spirita specialist where rambling and shouting about some out of body experience, but Mjuiri ignored him. She surmised that either he was seeing things she couldn't or he was on a rush of some kind and wasn't thinking clearly. Either way there wasn't much she could do about it, and no second oppinion to be had since her only other spirita specialist was the source of their predicament.

Catching up with Zed as he stops and stares at Levi's VF Mjuiri just spared it a quick glance before moving past Zed towards the motionless VF. "Come on, lets see if we can open her up."

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

Mjuiri had dragged Zed away with the intention of berating him for his actions earlier, but somehow she found it hard to find her words and she made a less then strong first impression by opening and closing her mouth a few times as her eyes wandered about while her brain struggled for the proper words.

"Look. You can't do that in front of the squad." She did her best to gather some energy and put some force behind her words, but she was tired and all she could feel was relief when she looked at the very much alive Zed. "Screw it..." She concluded with a deep sigh burying her face in Zed's chest, hugging him. "I'm just too glad you are alright" With her face buried the words mostly turned into a mumble, just barely discernable.

Bringing her head back slightly from Zed's chest she looked up in the eyes. "But seriously, you can't do that in front of everyone like that. I can't give them any more reasons to demote or transfer me. They have enough without me.. or you... adding another one to the list."

The mission was supposed to be simple.  Yeah sure, that's what they all sound like on paper.  She hoped the squadrom members of Quiet Riot would have a better time on their first missions than she did.

The faint IFF had her curious, and she was starting to try and analyze the distance and type, or at least who the IFF was  broadcasting itself as when Marauder broke radio silence, rather explosively, and with a good deal of expletives:
Quote
"Enemy mother BEEP ahead!  Let's blast that mother BEEP to kingdom BEEP come and show them that they can't BEEP vaporize a BEEP UN planet without getting BEEP themselves!"

Celes couldn't believe her luck.  Of everything to go wrong today...  She watched the guys blaze off and she flicks on her squad's band.  "Riot! Get your asses back in formation!  This stinks of a trap dammit!  She pauses a moment and growls, "Everyone who doesn't want a general court-martial, follow me!" she growls, and Lt. Black does her best to lead the others down under the deceased frigate's nosecone for a second prong of any needed counter attack.

Actions
1. Radio (cause laser would probably get skipped)
2-3.(?) Pilot under the destroyed nosecone with whoever of the 17 squad who doesn't wish to run head-long the other direction.
4+ Reserve for Dodge.

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

Opening Levi?s VF-11D Kai is as easy as pressing the right switch below the canopy of the cockpit section.  The difficulty is that he?s in battroid mode and it will take more than a jump to get to it.

There is nothing usable within site.  However, there are the VFs that they came in on parked to one side of the hanger.  There?s enough room in the hanger to do some fancy VTOL work and transform from jet mode to battroid.

As everyone is contemplating how to reach the access panel, Dempsey runs up, pointing in the general direction of his VF, and sputtering half sentences and other gibberish that no can make sense.

T?tul punches him on the arm to knock some sense into him.  ?What the BEEP you BEEP on?  Slow down a BEEP minute, for BEEP sake!?

Dempsey catches his breath, and taking another worried look over his shoulder at his parked VF, he says, ?I saw one!  I saw one!  I saw one!  A spiritia apparition!  A real one!  And it talked!  It said that Levi must go to a Spiritia Fountain at Apollo Base, whatever that means.  And I saw one!  My buddies back in spiritia warfare training school will be blown away for sure.  I saw one!?

High Orbit of New Patagonia

"Riot! Get your asses back in formation!  This stinks of a trap dammit!  ...  Everyone who doesn't want a general court-martial, follow me!"

?Right, ma?am? sir,? comes Marauders immediate reply.  He is biting his lip, holding back both a rude reply and his desire to bring pain and suffering to the SSSP.

The other members of Quiet Riot squad who had leapt to action, also throttle down, and slide back into formation.  All of their weapon pallets are closed.  Nevertheless, Celes feels their nervous thumbs twitching over the HOTAS.

Heading around to the other side, they find a single Queadlunn Rau.  It looks completely undamaged, and is lying face down (if that is possible in directionless space) with all limbs spread outwards on the remains of the nose of the Bolognese Frigate.  It?s missile bays are open, and they are completely empty.

?About time someone found me...? comes a static filled broadcast, presumably from the Queadlunn Rau.  The voice sounds highly stressed, tired, and there is a chattering of teeth accompanying the words.  ?I?ve been out here for about 30 hours... per chance you guys have with you a macro-sized toilet?  I really, really, really have to go!?  There is plenty of urgency in the voice.

Mjuiri gave Dempsey a long look. "Well Levi doesn't seem to be going anywhere unless we take him somewhere. I'll try to get a my VF over here. Dempsey and Cassel  I'll lift you two up there to get Levi out and see how he is doing. T'tul you go see if those medics I called for got lost on the way, we might need them." She gave everyone one final look to see if they had all understood before heading away to the nearest suitably placed VF.

Getting her helmet back on while jogging was a well practised manoeuvre and by the time she began climbing up into the cockpit the helmet was already on without her ever actually thinking about putting it on. Once inside she powered it up, skiping all but the most essential preflight checks (primarily systems that as to do with delicate manoeuvring ;) ), and got to work lifting her bird up enough to transform it into battloid mode.

Once (if) successful she carefully walked her battloid over to Levi's VF, kneeling beside it and holding out a hand for Dempsey and Cassel to use as an elevator.

Vick wake up from his happy mode, realising that his friend was still not in good situation. when his commander talk to him.

"Well Levi doesn't seem to be going anywhere unless we take him somewhere. I'll try to get a my VF over here. Dempsey and Cassel  I'll lift you two up there to get Levi out and see how he is doing. T'tul you go see if those medics I called for got lost on the way, we might need them."

"Yes Maam"

Her Battroid arrive rapidly, then he and Zed get in the hands of the VF who lift them to cockpit of the VF-11D Kai. They pull the emergency Cockpit opening mecanism and the canope tilt up, revealing a big AI computer in the place of the pilot seat and the transparent support bubble with Levi inside. Cassel looked puzzled by that conception.

"Let me open that: I'ved used this kind of seat for nearly a year... Be ready to unrestrain him."

Depsey quikly find the exterior opening button and open the bubble, revealing the spiritia speacialist. Vick check his vital sings while whristling Totsumeki love heart, trying to wake him.

"He looks okay, but he still not awake. Let's get it out there. Here, take his legs."

Carefully, the two black wraiths get their friend out of his cockpit and in the hands of M'juri's VF-22's Batroid.

"He look completly worn out... Maybe i can wake him with a powerfull Spiritia reaction... You can get us down Maam!"

There was a rush that had built up from the spark of going into battle that defused when she saw it was a Q-rau, but then Celes breathed it all out to clear her head.  She was still wary of a trap, and wished that she could of used the laser comms to have reined in the squad.  She spends a moment to think about it and get a better look at the mecha doing a dead-man's float out there before sending orders.

"Alright guys, form a 1km perimeter and keep your eyes open.  Magma, you and your wingmate, watch our friend here, let's make sure she is who she says she is." Black orders via laser comms before going back to the short-range radio, directing it to the Que-Rau while forming with the other two into a slow random orbit in Battloid form (provided it doesn't dump ordinance to do so, if it does, jet form will still suffice).

"This is 1st. Lt. Black, I'm sorry but they've yet to design a mecha that turns into a port-a-john ma'am.  Report your status please."  She comms, while giving the power armor an inspection with her optics to look for damage on the armor as well as any ID as to who the mecha was with.

Celes knew she'd likely have to send a comms back to the ship for help on what to do with a survivor out here, and that nagged her and she gave the surrounding area a good look over too for any debris that could hide a mecha.

Actions:
1. Laser Comm
2. Radio
3+. Inspection (or defense/dodge if attacked)

Bringing her head back slightly from Zed's chest she looked up in the eyes. "But seriously, you can't do that in front of everyone like that. I can't give them any more reasons to demote or transfer me. They have enough without me.. or you... adding another one to the list."

Placing his arms around Mjuiri, Zed smiles down at her.  "Don't worry, I won't let that happen, and I'll behave myself.  For the record you're not doing bad.  You haven't gotten nearly as many people killed as I have."  The smile slightly fades from Zed's face as memories of those lost try to intrude on the moment.  He squashes them by leaning down and kissing Mjuiri full on the lips, parting them with his tongue and gently caressing hers.  "Will you spend the night with me?"

2050.04.15 Friday, Afternoon
Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

Dempsey checks Levi?s vitals.  His breathing is shallow, and is heartbeat is slow.  At first, he thinks that Levi is in a deep sleep.  But then he remembers something about people in a coma, and how Levi?s present state has similar characteristics.*

His singing and concurrent release of spiritia towards Levi has no effect.  Though, he does perceive his spiritia energy being sucked into Levi?s neck.  He remembers the briefing about Levi acquiring a spiritia entity and it being located in his neck.

T?tul trots up with a pair of medics in tow.  All three of them stare up at Kavryn?s battloid?s outstretched hands.

* I was never taught to recognize people in a coma when I had first-aid training.  So, I?m considering the coma diagnosis as something a doctor or possibly a paramedic could do.  It could be from Spiritia Warfare Training.  Take the diagnosis with a grain of salt, as that?s how I think Dempsey would take it.

High Orbit of New Patagonia

The Quiet Riot squad disperses out to a 1 Km patrol radius.

Black remembers that all of the larger UN Spacy ships (that?s basically everything larger than a Bolognese Frigate) have a special Zentraedi sized airlock, pilots room and facilities off of one of the larger hangers.  The ship she came in on has those facilities.

The Meltraendi pilot tsks sarcastically at 1st Lt. Black?s quip about transforming toilets.  ?Main power is offline, and emergency power is down to the last 3%.  I?ve had to turn off the heater to retain power and its damn cold in here?

Black?s thermo scans confirm that though the Queadlunn-Rau is warmer than surrounding space, it?s not that much warmer.  The center of the pilot?s body is the warmest part, and it looks like her fingers and toes are frozen.

The pilot continues through chattering teeth.  ?Oxygen is? virtually gone.?

Black doesn?t spot any damage beyond the usual wear and tear and some micrometeorite scars.  She spots some insignia that look like they have been hand painted over the original Meltraendi symbols.  Her VF?s computer, after analyzing it, displays a similar symbol.  It?s the insignia of the Meltraendi mercenaries who are known associates of the Sector Seven Space Pirates.

?I have information? information on the Pirates and that evil SOB, the Sultan,? the Meltraendi pilot broadcasts.  ?It?s about their next target.  But I won?t tell until once I?m on one of your ships, taken a piss, and am guaranteed immunity!?

Black?s repeated scans come up with a threat assessment for the Queadlunn-Rau: it?s about as threatening as an asteroid half its size; the kind that pose a threat only if someone or something else accelerates the asteroid into you.  In other words, no threat from the mecha, and little to no threat from the pilot once she is out of the mecha.

OOC: there was a slight rule change whilst you were away: in my game(s) the majority of VFs don?t dump wing-mounted ordinance when transforming (though the VF-19, and possibly one or two others, can?t remember if it includes the VF-22) are the exceptions.)  Currently, there is nothing mounted on the wings.

LV-426 - Koya Marine Complex
Slightly earlier (than the main story)

2nd Lt. Jack Forinas was sore, very saddle sore.  He had just finished another Mk 3.09 training session with Major Prefontaine; this time, it was a game of paintball in the rocky outcroppings in a distant corner of the Koya Marine Complex.  Forinas had gotten the impression that Major Prefontaine was a sadist.  This latest training only confirmed that impression.

Despite the rigours of power armour training, he was immediately dumped into a VF-22 combat simulation.  Until now, he had been put through the paces battling virtual VFs, Zentraedi mecha, even Varuta fighters.  Today marked the first time he was being put up against the feared opponents of the Black Wraiths - a Black Samba!

The operators advice was brief, ?You won?t be able to scratch him until you?ve taken out his shields with the spiritia missiles.  Try not to let him get too close either.?

The sim started, and Forinas found herself in an asteroid field over a blue-green world.  The asteroids were spaced some 500 to 1,500 m apart, and they ranged in size from just barely large enough to hide a VF, to 200 m.  He had appeared in a clearing in the middle of the field, with the closest asteroids being 1,500 m in all directions.  His VF-22 was in fighter mode, and was waiting for his control input before moving.

Out of the cloud of rocks directly in front of him emerged a tawny Black Samba; most likely coloured tawny by the operator to make the sim easier for him - this being his first time against the powerful foe.

The Black Samba wasn?t making it easy on her.  It accelerated directly towards him, unleashing 20 micro-missiles in the process.

"Couldn't this have waited?  I just finished playing paintball with the Marquis de Sade, and now I have to deal with this?!"  Jack was careful not to voice his thoughts, but immediately fired micro-missiles to take care of some of the enemy's attack, uncertain that he could successfully dodge all 20.  He then attempted to dodge whatever missiles remained.  Following his evasion attempt, he moved forward, locked onto the Black Samba and fired off four Spiritia Buster missiles (or whatever his maximum volley for them happens to be) at it.  He then devoted the remainder of his attention to dodging any new attacks.

Actions:

1. Fire 12 micro-missiles at incoming missiles
2. Dodge
3. Move 100 m closer to Black Samba, and maintain that distance
4. Target Black Samba, and fire 4 spiritia missiles (or maximum if it is less than four)
5 & 6. Dodge

O.O.C.: Will normal spiritia use (i.e., singing) do anything in a sim?  I'm not too familiar with that part of the game.

Mjuiri shook her head letting out a deep sigh when she saw Levi's limp body being dragged out of the cockpit. A part of her knew she ought to feel more concerned for Levi then the trouble his condition caused her squad, but she subconsciously erased the thought.

Out of the corner of her eye she could see T'tul returning with what seemed to be a pair of medics. She turned her eyes back on Levi. A wounded enemy is better then a dead one. A dead one only removes one enemy from the battlefield while a wounded one removes atleast 3. She glanced at the medics again, confirming the proverb in her mind.

"Lets get you down on the deck. Ready? I'll lower you now." Mjuiri said over the loudspeakers before gently bringing them all back down towards the deck and the waiting medics.

Mjuiri enjoyed the kiss to its fullest. She didn't have the energy to worry about weather she should or not, she deserved a reward. They all deserved whatever good they could come over.

"Will you spend the night with me?"
She licked her lips. "Optimistic are we? You think they'll give us a whole night? But yeah, lets make the best of whatever time we get huh?" She replied smiling.

When at the ground, Vick help The Medics to put Levi in a stretcher.

"Don't send it to the infermery right now, i think we got the treatment right here!"

The Spiritia Speacialist run to his Gerwalk and jump in his cockpit, restarting his Sturmvogell. The cockpit close and the VF-22 transform into Battroid Mode. The pilot carefully walk to the little crowd , starting up his SES and choosing a good song. The speakers came to life:

"Hold-on Levi: One minute of fully Spiritia boosted Dance Music comming right-up!!!"

The battroid bow and put a knee on the ground. Music beguin with a high beat, and Vick began to sing:

"Eurobeat!
This music makes you feel the fire!
This rhythm spinning me right to the top!
Just move your hands and get me higher
Tonight it' s only me and you
I need to touch your body touch your body
Girl I don' t want talk about it talk about it
Now I feel to move my body move my body
Disco waits for me!

Eurobeat - let' s make a stepping right on
To the beat - we got to move your hands
Eurobeat - this is the night so come on
Move your feet - we got to have some fun

Eurobeat - let' s make a stepping right on
To the beat - we got to move your hands
Eurobeat - this is the night so come on
Move your feet - we got to have some fun"

During the song, the laser and holo system simulated light and visual effect, making the hangar look like a discoteque, where a black VF-22 where nearly moving like he was dancing, cause Dempsey was so into his beat that he insticly moved his fighter like he was dancing...

OOC: I'ved always wanted to make a VF dance... Next time, i'll make Zed and M'juri dance lambada in their Battroids while the rest of us do the Para-para! :P

Shan was worried about his teammate too, not to mention the fact that he had glimpsed the 'appraition' too.
However, before he could speak up, the others had taken the lead, and now, Levi and the medics had a VF dancing on top of them.
Worry for his teammate was replaced for a brief moment of incredulous-ness, then Shan looked back at Levi, unconsciously crossing his fingers to hope for the best. Comeon....

1st Lt. Forinas?s 12 dogfight missiles missed the incoming 20.  It wasn?t so much a miss per se, but that they slipped through the cloud of 12, and their proximity detectors either malfunctioning or exploding too far away from the Black Samba?s missiles.

The Black Samba responded by firing some type of mega-death beam from the center of its chest.  Florinas?s dodge is semi-successful and he manages to avoid instant vaporization.  Though, the entire surface of his VF is burnt crispy brown, and the flaps and leading edges of the VF?s wings and tails shatter into dust.  Both FAST packs are gone, and there is a major damage alert.  On top of that, half his screens are down with the other half half-full of static.

With a quick glance backwards, he spots the beam shatter a trio of 200 m sized asteroids behind her; and possibly more, as the clouds of rock and dust hide any further effects.

Florina attempts to maintain control of his VF, but he loses it, and it goes spinning on his last trajectory towards the asteroids.  The Black Samba closely pursues, and hammers away with lethal energy discharges from it?s arms or hands.  Within seconds, Florina?s VF is Swiss cheese, and a moment later, the sim pod?s screen blinks white and fades to black.

The sim operators voice crackles in his ear.  ?The best defence, is a good offence.  Push the VF-22 to its limits, like Guld did in the testing of the YF-21!

This time, we?re going to start you moving.  I don?t know who?s idea it was to start you unmoving.  Must be the Brass wanting to make things all that much harder the first time,? the Sim operator shrugs.

?We?ll restart in an atmosphere.  Less cover to hide behind, but you?ll be moving forward.  Good luck.?

The sim operator cuts the connection, and after a second or two, the sim pod reactivates.  This time, Florina?s VF-22 is flying somewhere in a blue sky over what could be a blue ocean, many, many kilometres below.  There are a few clouds at higher and lower altitudes, but none closer than 1 minute?s flight at Mach 1 or higher.  Florina is currently flying straight and level, at roughly 1/2 mach speed.

The Black Samba appears first on radar.  It?s coming from somewhere behind and beneath Florina.  It?s using the same tactics; firing 20 dogfight missiles, and a volley of laser bolts at the same time.  The laser bolts will arrive in the blink of an eye.  The missiles will arrive after 1 melee action.  The Black Samba is just within gun pod range, and closing fast.

OOC:  No.  It might do something to your character and possibly people in the immediate vicinity, but not to anything in the virtual reality game (sim).

Good first try.  I suggest doing something to keep the Black Samba off balance.  Take note of: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/SFAQ.htm#Shooting_Missiles

"Great!  I probably set a new record time for getting my ass blown up on that sim.  Can't afford to screw this one up!"  Jack noticed the laser bursts, but those could easily be handled by getting out of their way, so he accelerated to 3/4 of Mach 1, then headed down towards the water to dodge the missiles.  He then changed to GERWALK, circled around to the Black Samba, and fired four Spiritia missiles directly at it.  He then maintained distance and prepared for whatever came next.

Actions:
1. Accelerate to 3/4 of Mach 1
2. Descend close to sea level
3. Change to GERWALK
4. Face Black Samba
5. Fire 4 Spiritia missiles at Black Samba
6. Dodge

"Don't send it to the infirmary right now, i think we got the treatment right here!

The two medics look at each other, Demspey, and Levi.  As they?ve already checked his vital signs and any signs of injury, they know that any delay in getting Levi to the medical bay won?t make much of a difference.  They shrug, and let Dempsey do his thing.

Everyone has their hearing thoroughly challenged by Dempsey?s impromptu concert.  More than a handful of the people in the hangar get into the groove and can?t help tapping along to the beat.  Everyone feels refreshed and invigorated, like they?ve just had a relaxing weekend.

Except for Levi.  There?s no reaction.  No sign of improvement.  Even Dempsey?s enhanced view of spiritia energy still shows Levi as a spiritia black hole.  After he finished the song, even the metal deck plating has a brighter spiritia glow than Levi.

2050.04.15 Friday, Sometimes later when things have calmed down a bit

The two find themselves with plenty of free time.  It?s at least another 24 hours of space fold before arriving back at New Patagonia, and there is nothing they can do to resolve the situation with Levi.  He?s currently in the ship?s medical bay, with the entire staff taking care of him, and the entire Black Wraith?s squad is on leave.  Mind you, on the day and eve of what could be a major battle, not many people are enjoying the free time.

Florina barely manages to avoid being made into Swiss cheese by the volley of laser bolts.  As Florina descends towards sea-level, the 20 dogfight missiles swarm Florina's VF.

OOC: yes, basic dodges are automatic, but dodges with bonuses have to be declared.  Also, look closely at the stats, as there are countermeasures that need to be declared when used.

BIC: The sim operator sits there with his head on his hand and let?s out a sigh.

?Let?s try that again.  This time, do something about the missiles as you?re avoiding getting shot and doing something to put the Black Samba off balance.?

?Let?s try that again.  This time, do something about the missiles as you?re avoiding getting shot and doing something to put the Black Samba off balance.? Forinas's first mental reaction was to smack himself upside the head for forgetting to take evasive action instead of just descending and praying for the missiles to magically drop into the water.  As the sim starts up again, he checks his radar to find that the enemy is behind and beneath him, and has fired a laser burst and 20 dogfight missiles once again.  "I know there's only been one recorded kill, so why do they expect me to do it myself?!" was all that he had time to think before accelerating to Mach 1, taking evasive action, and firing 2 flares, followed by a sharp dive and more evasion, then slowing down to 3/4 Mach speed and turning to face the Samba, unleashing 5 Spiritia Buster missiles on it, circling to hit it from behind, and firing either 2 more Spiritia Buster missiles if the shield is still up or 14 dogfight missiles if the shield has been disabled.

O.C.C: Sorry about the run-on sentence, I'm sleep-deprived and will fix it as soon as I get through today's classes and get some shut-eye

Actions:

1. Accelerate to Mach 1 while dodging and firing 2 flares
2. Sharp descent to near sea-level while dodging
3. Decelerate to 3/4 Mach speed, turn to face Black Samba, all while evading incoming attacks
4. Fire 5 Spiritia Buster Missiles at Black Samba while maintaining whatever distance is currently available
5. Circle around to behind Black Samba while dodging
6. If enemy shield is down, fire 14 dogfight missiles at Black Samba.  Otherwise, fire 2 Spiritia Buster missiles at Black Samba.

Celes looked the Q over a moment, then nodded as she got the response from the command ship.  "Will do." she states, then goes back over to the squad-level comms.  "Magma, Saltine, go to Battloid mode, take an arm and guide our friend here back to the recovery craft.  Everyone else, follow them in in roughly the same ring pattern that you have now, no orbiting around us." Lt. Black radios to the group, then proceeds to move along inside the ring with the Q-ra below her position and slightly ahead, just in case the pilot tries something crazy she can get a bead on her.

Florina successfully dodges the first volley of beam shots, but Florina?s dodge is ineffective against the missiles, as they are still too far away.  Florina?s flares, on the other hand, destroy 5 outright, and cause another 10 to lose their lock on Florina?s VF.

Florina drops rapidly, and attempts to dodge the remaining 5 missiles.  Florina doesn?t, and their explosions against Florina?s VFs shake Florina?s sim pod violently; causing extensive damage to Florina?s VF.  Top speed is reduced to less than 50%, and the electronics begin to fail.  Luckily, the 10 remaining dog fight missiles run out of fuel before being able to re-establish a lock on Florina?s VF.  Florina also manages to avoid another volley of beam shots from the Black Samba.

As Florina turns, Florina is caught in a volley of shots that Florina cannot avoid.  The shots punch big holes in Florina?s airframe.  Top speed is reduced to 25% and Florina?s damage displays are advising Florina to disengage and return to base ASAP.

The 5 Spiritia Buster missiles that Florina fires while playing a head-on game of chicken with the Black Samba slam into the Black Samba and succeed in stripping its shields away.  It is otherwise unphased by the attack.

Having passed each other, they then go into loops to see who can get into the dog tail position.  Florina manages to out pilot the Black Samba and get on its tail.  Florina fires 14 dogfight missiles that slam into the Black Samba.  It is seared from existence in a multitude of fireballs.

Florina begins the return to base, and en route Florina?s VF loses power from all the damage.  He is forced to eject.

The sim ends, and the sim operator?s smug face appears on the screens in the sim pod.  He claps.  ?Congratulations.  Though next time, remind yourself that the VF has more than one mode, and the strength of a VF is in its ability to use its different modes to your advantage on the battlefield.  For example, when you were circling to get on the Black Samba?s tail, you could have simply transformed to battroid and fired the gun pod at it.

Anyhow? you?re slated for another hour of sim training.  Prepare yourself.?  The sim restarts.

OOC: congratulations.  You?ve passed training and are now a full member of the game.  Basically that means no second chances when it comes to combat.  Do be aware that during this update I cut the damage of the Black Samba?s missiles in 1/3, and when those 5 missiles hit, they should?ve vaporized your VF.  But that would be counterproductive as this is training.  The one lesson that cannot be imparted here is team tactics.  Good luck in the game.  Any comments on this in the OOC, please and thank you.

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

Levi is transferred to the ship?s medical bay after Dempsey exhausts himself.  There is no change in his condition.

Later, when Kavryn informs Yoshimoto about Dempsey?s conversation with a spiritia apparition, specifically the Spiritia Fountain at Apollo Base, his normally emotionless and cool face breaks into a faint form of surprise and worry.  For him, that?s like screaming out in horror.

2050.04.17 Sunday, Morning
High Orbit of New Patagonia ? Black Wraiths

Long before the ship defolds, the Black Wraiths were told to prepare for battle, and ordered to launch immediately at defold, along with the rest of the VFs on the ship, and create a standard security deployment around the carrier.  After defolding, and about halfway through the launching process, they are given different orders; basically move into a holding pattern.

There is no sign of life other than the distant reflections and running lights of UN Spacy ships and VFs on patrol in the distance.  As they are some distance from New Patagonia, there aren?t very many pieces of debris in the area.  Though the occasional VF, UN Spacy ship, Varuta VF, and Meltraendi Queadlunn-Rau piece floats by.

At this distance, New Patagonia appears to be the same size as the moon as seen from the surface of Earth.  It is no longer an Earth-like blue-green world with white clouds and poles.  It is an ugly mixture of browns and greys.  There is also a haze around the planet, most likely debris from the UN and New Patagonia facilities and ships in orbit as well as debris from the planet?s surface.

Having visited the planet only a week or so earlier, all of the Black Wraith?s are aware of how much life was lost; and not just human life!  Lovers and former enemies must be amongst the dead, but there?s no way to ascertain that with the current distance and combat deployment situation.

OOC: I can?t work in a story reason for this: feel free to talk with each other via the radio.

High Orbit of New Patagonia ? Quiet Riot

Celes and the other pilots in Quiet Riot succeed in moving the damaged Queadlunn-Rau to their ship.

At that point, Celes is ordered to remain in the hangar while the Quiet Riot squad is ordered out of the ship, and back onto patrol.  Celes isn?t alone.  Inside the hanger, there is another VF-22 with SES FAST packs and painted in the exact same colours and with the same markings as her VF-22.  Captain Black recognizes the numbers on the VF from her experiences in being retrained for the UNI Anti-SSSP Special Forces no.2 squadron on LV-426.  It?s 2nd Lt. Forinas, someone who had started training just as she was finishing the retraining.

2nd Lt. Forinas, who had been out on patrol with a different squadron of non-UNI Special Forces VF pilots, had been ordered back to the ship and into the hangar as soon as Captain Black had radioed the ship about it.  He had been waiting about 5 minutes before the Queadlunn-Rau and Captain Black entered.

It was another 5 minutes before the Meltraendi finished using the facilities, was wrapped in a special thermal blanket, given a hot drink of coffee along with an IV drip, and given the ok by the two Zentraedi paramedics in the macron sized pilot?s room next to the hanger.

Black and Forinas are allowed in through the airlock, and look utterly out of place; with their fully armed VF-22, mounting FAST packs and gun pods in what could be mistaken as a hospital waiting room with three macron Zentraedi, all in hospital garb.

The ship?s Captain briefly contacts the two UNI pilots.  ?You?re here both to the guard the prisoner, and as UNI witnesses of the questioning of the captured terrorist; as I believe this falls under your mandate and mission assignment.  The UNI officer on this ship will conduct the questioning.?

Another voice echoes faintly in the large pilot?s room.  It must be the UNI officer as it sounds like he?s asking a question.  Before he gets very far, the Meltraendi speaks in a voice partially interrupted by the chattering of teeth.

?We?re mercenaries, right.  We joined with the Sultan?s pirates for profit.  However, what she?s doing isn?t profitable in the short term, and downright insane in the long run!  The scale of the destruction on Britannia was appalling to us, but we got paid well, and lots of captured booty, right? and that planet definitely wasn?t a party place, so it wasn?t anything off of our chins, right.  So we continued our business relationship with the Sultan?s pirates.

However, when that crazy bitch attacked New Patagonia? man, I still can?t believe that that gun on her little tiny ship could do what only a Zentraedi Grande Fleet can do? and in less time!  Well, that got us a thinking, right.  Not only is a fairly decent place where we could go to spend and enjoy the spoils of being a mercenary get destroyed, but there was no booty left too!

We were thinking about ending our business agreement with the Sultan.  Thankfully another mercenary squad, I think they were remnants of the Purple Bubble group, opted to leave before us.

This one pilot in a Pheyos? I think the pilot is the leader of the Varuta? which we originally thought were mercenaries until the battle here at New Patagonia? has always been shadowing us.  I thought the Pheyos was just watching our backs and there to provide tactical advice and better coordinate with the Varuta.

Well? man, oh, man? as soon as the that one mercenary group started to leave? the Pheyos went berserk.  I mean the scary, insane kind.  That thing?s a missile and beam gun ship, right, but the thing didn?t fire a single weapon!  It went in, brought out some type of energy knife or sword, and sliced all of the mercenaries to pieces!  Itty bitty pieces!

And the Pheyos avoided all of their counterattacks!  Even getting some of them to shoot their buddies by mistake!  The Pheyos pilot is a genius, I?ll give the pilot that, but the pilot?s insane!

That?s why my Meltranedi mercaneries didn?t leave? and sent me to give a message to you, the UN Spacy, defenders of the human universe, right.  They want to leave, but they can?t, and won?t until that Pheyos and his goons with their guns at our backs are defeated.

Therefore, the one condition before I spill the beans about where the Sultan and her punks?ll be attacking next.  Disable the Meltraendi fighters? they won?t go out of their way to try and hit you UN Spacy guys either? you guys like did this with Maria? what?s her name?  Maria Fariina.  She married that genius pilot with glasses and blue hair.

Yeah, so? do you agree with the terms?

There is some shuffling of paper heard coming over the PA speakers.  It must be the UNI officer.  The transmission is cut as someone else, presumably the captain has a private talk.  The transmission resumes, and the UNI officer coughs nervously.

?Yes.  We, the UNS and UN Government, agree to your terms.  What is their target??

The meltranedi stairs at Black and Forinas with an expression that shows that she?s telling the truth.  "Earth."

?E-e-e-e Earth?!?  Stutters the UNI officer.  ?Wh..wh?wh... when??

Jack reported as assigned to what appeared to be a macron-sized waiting room, where he was asked to be a witness to the rescued Meltlandi's testimony.  As he heard her describe her time with the Sultan's forces, he slowly grew nauseous at the realization that the Sultan was toying with them.

'This Sultan did all of this with just one ship?!  Why hasn't she finished us off yet, then?'  That was all he could come up with.

Jack heard her request to avoid destroying the Meltlandi mechs, and felt it would be easy enough to do if they don't try to fight to the death, but knowing that if push comes to shove, he'll do what he must to survive.

?Yes.  We, the UNS and UN Government, agree to your terms.  What is their target??

When she told them it was going to be Earth, all Jack could do was think of his family and many, many ex-lovers who still lived there, and cringe at the thought of what could happen to them if he failed to stop the Sultan.  Jack sent a private message to Celes:

"Captain, based on what she's said so far, we should probably try to keep some distance from that Pheyos so it can't slice us to bits too!  Also, I know this is kind of sudden and awkward, but I was wondering if you'd like to spend some time together after this.  I heard they're doing karaoke in the lounge, and I'd love to hear you sing.  It might be one of the few chances we get before our next mission, so what do you say?"

High Orbit of New Patagonia. Black Wraiths

Deploying for battle was second nature for Mjuiri. She and the rest of her squad had seen more then their share of battle after all. Despite this, she was feeling a bit anxious during this particular launch. New Patagonia wasn't just any place. Despite having only visited the system briefly before the events that took place there had made it a place of importance to her and knowing it was under attack was unnerving. Oddly enough not as much a worrying sort of unnerving but rather a paranoid feeling their enemies always managed to stay a step ahead of them, landing strikes against their soft spots.

The sight that met her and the rest of her squad as they deployed was hearth shattering. The scene before them was not that of a world attacked. It was a scene of a world all but annihilated. "By the deep black... what in the world did they attack with?" Mjuiri's voice over the comms where flat with just a hint of suppressed disgust. How many survived? Did anyone survive at all? Did he survive?

Mid-Space Fold from the Rogue Planet to New Patagonia

The Spartan nature of military quarters meant that even when allowed down time there really wasn't much one could do.  Having been shuffled from location to location so frequently while with the UNI, Zed had come to accept that no place would ever quite feel like home to him.  Not having any personal possessions with him didn't help remove that feeling.  Still, as both he and Mjuiri entered his quarters he could not help but feel safe, if only for the briefest of moments.  Then the physical pain of bodily strain began to set in, and with it the haunting reminder of his adolescent back injury.  Stretching and sighing, he led Mjuiri to the only seat in the whole place, the bed.

Sitting back against the wall, a simple pillow providing a modicum of comfort, Zed cradled Mjuiri in his arms, her head resting on his chest.  "I'm so tired...I just need some rest."  Slowly sleep took him, and with it the beautiful rest of a man holding the woman he loves.

OOC: Loadout shows Zed has no VF, so I'm waiting on the 2050.04.17 post until Sketchley can point me to his correct loadout.

Celes listened in on the questioning, not minding the duty, since she was already in her VF that is.  The words that came from the macro femme had her in shock...

Untouchable merc groups getting downed by a solo beserk pilot?  She was shivering as the name of Earth was brought up as it's the next target.  It all made sense, in a crazy sort of way.  Take out the earth, the rest of the fleet would be in disarray as half of them tried to jump on the mercs, and the rest could be piecemealed one at a time...

When the 2nd LT. started talking to her, it broke Black from her worried state.  "What?  Karaoke?  Don't you think we have something more important to be worried about?  I doubt they'll permit any letters home for the rest of the ship, but going out to a bar?  No, thanks.  Besides we may not get the chance." she lasers back at 2nd Lt. Forinas.

OOC:  Celes is a 1st Lt.    Not a captain.

Edit: spelling - karaoke

While not entirely surprised at the 1st. Lieutenant's response, he couldn't help but think she'd burn herself out if she kept pushing herself.  He finally figured that she would never say yes, or recommend a friend, but at the least, he had to find a way to help her settle down before the next mission.

He lasered back, "Alright, but maybe we can just have some tea together before we're deployed again.  You really ought to relax before the pressure gets to you."

EDIT: parsing, & spelling - karaoke.

Vick took a look again on the starship on the starship he was leaving behind, like it could diseapear in a second. He felt he could be back in this infirmery chair he pass most of the last hour, near his friend an colleague Levi, still in coma and imposible to wake, whatever hard he was singning, even with the SES. That spiritia black hole suck all the power he was giving to him. He ask to the edics if that thing could be extract, an they could not anwser him: the ship was in danger of going to combat in any second and the spiritia specialist case was not an emergency: He will stay alive as long that the ship will take to get to a base; they will not risk a chiurgy made by generalists without specialised equipment or personel that could risk the life of the pilot: that was too much risk for nothing. The Levi's case will be dealed back to base. For the moment, the Black Wraiths needed their last spiritia specialist into his pilot seat, so that's where he are.

Well, that wasen't for the view.

The planet was devastated. same as the fleet who was protecting it. Boy, what a mess...

"Eh, Guys... Aren't you on this planet last week? wasen't it supposed to be more...Blue-green?"

A quick check on his sensor give him the nausea.

"O Muse, god of Music, what happened here? I'm scanning for residual Spiritia signature."

His hands fly over the console, trying to get a good reading of his now repaired spiritia sensors.

High Orbit of New Patagonia

Dempsey doesn?t need to check his sensors.  For the first time in his life, his eyes see a world utterly and completely devoid of life.  Even space had a bright, albeit faint, glow of spiritia life.  New Patagonia was nothing more than a black circle in his spiritia perceptions.  Even the space around the planet was noticeably less bright in spiritia energy.  Perhaps the absorption of the background spiritia emanations is a residual effect of the weapon that the SSSP used, or perhaps it was all the floating lifeless spiritia entities and vessels in orbit around the planet.  Whatever it was, it scared him to the very core of his being.

?E-e-e-e Earth?!  Wh? wh... wh... when??

?7 hours,? is the Meltraendi?s reply.  Everyone within earshot knows that that isn?t very much time.  The fold back to Earth will take slightly longer?
