What's Up With Jet Jockey
« on: September 22, 2010, 10:21:37 AM »
Public Notice
After nearly or over 10 years of Game Mastering the Jet Jockey is taking a leave of absence.  Call it preventative measure to treat a long diagnosis case of GM burnout.  Yes I'm going to GM Rehab.  I first started treating my GM burnout by having a support partner to carry some of the work load.  They ended up getting RL burnout.  RP GM partners are great thing.  They take over when you need a break.  Even when you don't need a break for GM or RL burnout a GM partner can still give you a break when you need to prepare notes for the next Mission.  I need a break to take care of both.  Remember how we lost all those posts from the boards?   It was pretty much all of my notes for the rest of the current storyline of the Galaxy Patrol game.  I've just been Game Mastering off the top of my head.  I have had or placed little effort in thinking about the next Episode.   Been busy at work & RL even when I could have made the time this weekend to post I did something else.  I think that was writer's block but I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't getting uninspired and burnout.   Current Episode was winding down to the end anyways.  When it was over I was going to take a week off to work a little bit on some notes.  If I've been thinking about the next episode that would have be an easy week to prepare.   Right now I don't think it would be that easy.

I already had a vacation planned for the first week or so of next month.  I'm starting my MRC vacation right now and will take a complete month off.  I might lurk a bit for some note keeping but I not be taking part in the games here during this time.  I think all of the Galaxy Patrol players have characters in other games.  If not the other Game Masters will be happy to take you.   Besides Game Masters I like planning out campaigns and making notes.  There's idea from mission structure and board wide campaigns I wanted to do.  very hard to overhaul games based on stuff you've learned when your too busy running a game.  This break is a way to think about that stuff.   Plus I can work on some stats if I choose to during this time.  When I return I might ready to do the next episode or ready for a new campaign.   Recently I been thinking about a Game about a group of Bridge Bunnies who make a pack to all great married before their ship returns from its mission.  Yes I've became a fan of Korean Soap Operas and starting to get inspired by them.   Macross isn't just all about the music or Mecha porn.   There's that girlie romance story as well.  That is an element I think I would like to explore in future games.  Maybe when I return I won't Game Master at all.  Taking time off as GM and focusing on playing is always a good way to treat GM burnout.   When I return I will be making an effort to do some playing first.

Speaking of playing I got my copy of Another Episode R last week.  I need to go do that and finish watching some Orguss.   Then some of Macross Frontier.  See this isn't a break from Macross it is break from Game Mastering.   When I return I will be having Macross on my mind.

Burn out is a horrible thing.  Take the time you need to recharge, JJ.  We'll all be here when you get back.

We all need a break now and again! Hope you enjoy it!

Dammit! I knew I should have gotten a better lock and chain! But nooooo, I had to save twenty bucks by buying it off the street from a guy with no teeth... last time I buy anything that can be fixed with duct tape. *grumble*

Jokes aside, you've been doing this for ten years straight now?! Bloody bacon on a platter, I'm happy to hear you're taking a break. Do enjoy the time off Mr. Focker, sounds like you have definitely earned it.
I think you've got about ten seconds to say "Welcome, Earth woman, and help yourself to our finest space boys."

I was wondering why there weren't any postings in our game.  You know a logical mind would think to look at the Announcement Boards from time to time, but it's a good thing Sketchy was there to point me in the right direction.

Thanks man, no matter what you decide to do it's been a treat.

Yuck Not This Ugly Board Theme Again
« Reply #8 on: October 26, 2010, 11:29:22 PM »
I take some time off and I return to this ugly board theme.

Sorta back I guess.  This is more like popping in and saying hi.  Was just getting too busy.  Had a feeling if I kept going it would be a total burn-out.  My vacation was starting a week so it seemed like a good time to take a break.   Was planning on visiting before making this post.   I take a  vacation from work and when I got back I was scheduled to work ten days in a row.  Swear I got no rest.   Not jumping in Game Mastering at this moment.  Will be checking things out on boards.  Maybe being a player or thinking up ideas.

Welcome back.

Regarding the board theme, I recommend you switch back to your favourite ASAP!  It's not so much the eye-strain inducing colours, it's that all the buttons are rearranged >.<

That sucks.

Did they give you a decent reason, or was it an assassination disguised as something else?
