OOC: I don't know if it was mentioned a time limit for this mission (if it was I forgot it =/), so I haven't used any exact times. We will of course have to set exact times since we won't be able to contact eachother easily. But I thought if need be this could be decided later (but RPed as relayed now) in the interest of keeping the pace up, should it be desired. I hope I'm not doing something incredibly stupid. If so please do tell ^_^. I'm good at missing things.

Mid-Space Fold: LV-426 to ?

Dempsey's comment made Mjuiri want to bury her face in her hand, but she resisted the urge to the degree that her only reaction was twitching ears and a determined stare straight ahead into nothingness.

At the Colonel's expressed worry Mjuiri could only assure her that no such attacks would be made and that she would make sure to make that point perfectly clear to her squad.

Defold

Mjuiri studied the data relayed over her HUD and listened on the added comments by the various people. Leiagh's brief appearance brought back a few memories and even though there where images among those memories she would have rather forgotten she still missed having Leiagh part of the squad. There was nothing to be done about that however, she had her pieces to play with and would have to make what she could with them. No sense wasting effort with wishes.

As the final fold commences T'tul is the first to speak, and in the spirit of further establishing himself as decidedly different from the T'tul she most recently knew, he made sure to spend alot of words saying nothing at all.

"Shut up T'tul!" Mjuiri hissed over the comms. "As you all know by now this is a recon mission. Our objective is to gather information and under no circumstances are we to engage in combat. If we are forced to do so we have most likely already failed our mission." She paused shortly to let that sink in.

"Now upon defold, provided nothing unexpected await us, I want Flight 3 to set up a safe distance away from the planet and the pirate base. Your objective will be to monitor traffic to and from the base. Take note of routes used when entering and exiting the base as well as any patrols you may find.

Flight 2 and Flight 1 will spread out a bit to survey the surrounding area. If they have any minefields, satelite bases or anything like that we need to know about it. We will need to also get sensor readings on the dark matter present. Be damned sure to be careful about any sensor usage however as usage of active scans is sure to alert anyone nearby of our presence.

We will later (OOC: See comment above post) converge on points xxx, yyy, zzz (something suitably safe) to share information and plan for a closer study of the base itself. Hopefully we will have gathered enough recon by then to plot a safe course for a closer "drive-by" or a position where we can hold above the planet/base and wait for it to pass below.

Remember when we converge to properly ID the craft before making any kind of transmissions. VISUAL confirmation. We want to avoid broadcasting any sort of identification after all. Any questions or comments? Make it quick."

Mid-Space Fold: LV-426 to ?

Zed felt a little guilt as he paid just as much attention to Mjuiri as he was paying attention to Colonel Kim.  Seeing her discomfort he breaks decorum and rests his hand on her shoulder, just a moment.  Inside he wonders what Kim will make of it, given all the knowing looks she'd flashed him lately.  Does she know my feelings for Mjuiri???  Or is she interested in me?  She's seen me at my most vulnerable it seems, and has seen me all those years ago.  They may not have been years for her, but...come to think of it, did she have enough clearance to know about me back when I first appeared?  Is that why she chose me to lead the Archers?   His own doubt starting to nag him, Zed listened to the rest of the final briefing without comment.  He'd done a lot of things without comment lately.  What was happening to him?  There's just so much at stake.  Things will be fine when the SSP are gone.

Defold

Zed laughed.  It could be the stress, or it could be the normally stoic T'tul swearing graphically over the com.  "Shut up T'tul"  Zed calmed down a little, and was glad his mic wasn't open when he was laughing.  As he listened to Kavryn's orders on their deployment, he checked and rechecked the readings of where they knew potential dangers to be.  "Any questions or comments? Make it quick."  "Dream Weaver here, no singing, at least until combat.  No raising of your spiritia energy in any way.  We don't yet know what the Black Samba can detect in the way of Spiritia energy, but we don't want to give away our positions."

Rogue Planet ? Orbit

The squad defold in a high orbit above the rogue planet.  It?s hard to determine if the planet has a reddish hue, or if that is only from the red nebulae that the planet is in.

Immediately, the pilots separate from the fold apparatus, and begin moving towards loose formations of the flights they were broken into.

Below them is the fortress, and it is orbiting ominously slow.  http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60964673/ (make it larger by clicking the image.)

It is hard to determine the scale of the fortress given the lack of any recognizable object floating near or behind it.  Though, given the scale of the Zentraedi Supreme Commanders? Mobile Bases and the Factory Satellites, the fortress must be of a similar size, if not scope and purpose.

There is zero activity, both from the station and any other objects in orbit.

Those with the spiritia sight see a faint pinprick of spiritia energy emanating from roughly the center of the structure.  It is unlike anything that they have encountered before.  It?s almost like looking at the sun (albeit a pin-head sized one) if they stare at it.  Whatever it is, it is unmoving inside of the fortress.

Levi and Dempsey perceive more.  It is continuously releasing spiritia energy; energy which appears to be being consumed by unknown things surrounding it.

T'tul contacts everyone using the laser communications array.  "Man... I don't know about you guys, but ever since we defolded, my BEEP arm is BEEP aching... right where the BEEP doctors BEEP told me that my BEEP source clone had his BEEP arm cut off!"

Vick disconnect his fighter from the fold booster. From the moment his fighter had lunched from the carrier, he had sing, his micro gain and music at minimum to not really disturb anyone, an old good song "we built this city" from Starship, trying to get the group a bit of courrage. He thinked that was the least he can do.

"Dream Weaver here, no singing, at least until combat.  No raising of your spiritia energy in any way.  We don't yet know what the Black Samba can detect in the way of Spiritia energy, but we don't want to give away our positions."

At this order, Vick flip off his spiritia energy convector and stop singing, saying for himself as the reconfortant light of his spiritia power chime down:

"Now, how will i do to keep the tempo?"

But now, he was in front of this gigantic space station, he realisesd that this is it: he was at his first major mission, and he was in the first line.they where waiting that he act like a Spiritia Specialist. And he wil...

"Wow..." He said to himself in his cockpit. "It's so strong... so powerfull... It's like looking at the sun from pluto..."

Then he see the energy wave, has his fighter coming nearer that the station. At first, he find that fantastic that he could see such spiritia reaction, then he realise that, maybe the other can't see it like he can. Dempsey program his radio to make a laser connection to the others fighters of his group:

"Dempsey here. Maam, i don't know if you can see it like i do, but... There's definitly a strong spiritia reation inside that station: there is someone or something relasing spirita... It's like... A Fire Bomber concert... An anima spiritia emitting his energy and all the audience arround him capting it, boosting their power of hapiness... But, it that case, it's more like the anima spiritia is used like a power generator for recharging people or things... It maybe not an anima spiritia at al, but i think it is... That's very disturbing Maam, but it's fascinating..."

OCC: I can?t remember if I included an in-game mission time limit.  There is an out-of-game time limit.  4 turns, of which this is the first (3 more remaining.)

BIC: Flight 3 moves off to complete their mission objectives.  The other two flights remain unmoved.  1st Lt. Demspey, all by himself, accelerates to low/medium speed, directly towards the fortress.

1st Lt. T?tul, using the laser communicator, contacts the other three in his flight.  ?Oi!  What the BEEP is BEEP up?  Someone?s BEEP VF?s BEEP engine got BEEP FUBARed??

1st Lt. Levi is quite a bit more tactful when contacting his flight-mates.  ?Uhm? that fortress is creeping me out.  I?d feel a lot safer moving, and not sitting still, waiting for a giant energy blast to vaporize us.?

There is no reaction, or visible activity in, on, around or eminating from the fortress, aside from the mysterious spiritia energy source that only a few of the squad can perceive.

Replying on laser communication Zed says, "Roger that.  Two Flight, begin recon on area xxx, yyy, zzz.  Levi, keep an eye on the fortress.  I want to know if anything about it suddenly changes."  Adjusting his throttle, Zed maneuvers his fighter so that he can passively gather intel as Kavryn had ordered.  He pays particular attention to manuevering as stealthily as possible, watching for dark matter and other dangers.

(OOC: Again sorry if it looks crap. I can't see the formatting when posting from work >_<)

BIC:
Mjuiri listened thoughtfully on the reports from her fellow squadmates as she watched the looming fortress orbiting the small planet. Though full of curses Mjuiri was happy T'tul had enough sense to report his discomfort, and she had to admit she preffered T'tul's rude vocabulary over Dempsey's report any day.

"boosting their power of hapiness"... She shook her head slowly. She couldn't see even a hint of the phenomenon Dempsey described and his description sounded both dorky and idiotic in her ears. He was right, no doubt, but she just couldn't come to terms with this spirita stuff.

"Oi! what the BEEP is BEEP up? Someone's BEEP VF's BEEP engine got BEEP FUBARed?"

Mjuiri wanted to slap her forehead in exasperation, but she needed her hands on her controls. LIning up her laser comm array with the rest of her flight she sent her orders. "Dempsey (OOC: Callsign?), get whatever passive sensor readings you can on the spirita phenomenon. If you can't get any.... just... just make sure you remember what you see or feel." I can't believe how stupid that sounds... She thought idly as she continued. "Lets move out towards xxx, yyy, zzz and scout out in the opposite direction of Flight 2. Lets see what we can find." Her voice was calm and just a bit too indifferent/emotionless.

Perhaps we can find something we can get proper sensor-readings off. With that she set her VF moving towards the mentioned area circling their target in opposite direction from flight 2, of course making sure she and her flight kept as stealthy as possible and that everyone was actually using their Active-Stealth System.

2050.04.14 Thursday, Night

Jung didn't pay too much attention to Dempsey's mild joke, and continued his story.
"Before starting as a pilot, I was originally a marine, as marine sniper.
I used to be in a small taskforce, usually being assigned on things against terrorism."
He thought that too much detail shouldn't be revealed now. At least for now.
"Fortunately, the taskforce consisted of everyone whom I knew very well.
Things were going pretty good, and we actually felt proud of it."
A small smile was made from his face, something that was mix of bitter smile and a happy one.

"And on that snowy day..."
Suddenly he felt pain in his heart and mind. A sudden flood of emotions.
"Everything... happened."
His grip got tight as if he would break the glass he was holding. The great pain and sadness was filling
up in his heart. Someone was screaming stop!! in his mind, but so small comparing to the flood.
"That day, my friends... and my younger sister..."
It was the limit. The fragments of memories were slowly being put in its place, and pain followed it.
He couldn't continue. If he does so, he knew that once again he won't be able to control himself.

"Anyways, that's my answer."
Sometime later he was able to regain some of himself. Boy, I better think again before doing these.
It was then T'tul stepped in the ward. Jung turned his head toward T'tul.

Rogue Planet, Orbit

Space recon was no joke to Jung. He would have felt much better if it was recon in jungle,
although he expected the direct opposite to those who are more familiar with space.
Now that reminds me of those so called space cowboys...

"Two Flight, begin recon on area xxx, yyy, zzz."
Jung didn't necessarily reply with laser communication, as he was sure that his senior would be able
to see what he was about to do. Besides, he also felt that comm should be used only when it's needed.
Jung eagerly scanned the area without the active scanners for any dangers or something unusual;
especially any form of traps. He didn't move too fast with ASS, just to make sure to maximize the stealth element.

OOC: Sorry, no callsing: My pilot didn't stay much time in regular squadron:  he go directly to Spiritia Warfare Squadron Madonna after his trainning, so he diden't had the time to earn a callsing. but you can call him Vick! :P

BIC:
Getting his eyes out of the magnificent spiritia phenomenon he was looking at, Vick get an eye on his instrument...

To see that he was alone.

He quickly look arround him, and saw the rest of his squadron behind him, near the fold booster. He had beguin to move without them, and didn't wait for the order. He slap himself mentally for that and reduce speed so that his squadron can rejoing him. a quick check show to him that his Active Stealth System was still on and fonctionning properly. His radio open on:

"Dempsey, get whatever passive sensor readings you can on the spirita phenomenon. If you can't get any.... just... just make sure you remember what you see or feel."

He respond on the same laser sight:

"Roger Maam, Trying to comply."  "Anyway, i don't think i could ever forget that! Even Basara and Mylene never done something like that!"

A quick look on his passive radar, full lens camera system, or even the geiger counter show anything that he could see, so he switch on his SES booster control but not booster system and try to get a good lecture of the Spiritia used in the sector.

(OOC: My character is making a spiritia warfare strategy check actually: He is using wathever spiritia sensor he got, or if he don't have one, he improvise one using the "spiritia meter" of his SES booster who show how much spiritia they relesing, but he point these meter on the space station., trying to get a reading)

meanwhile, he heard:

"Lets move out towards xxx, yyy, zzz and scout out in the opposite direction of Flight 2. Lets see what we can find."

Programing his auto-pilot, he let the plane follow his squadmate while he was occupied bye his analysis.

One and Two flights see and detect nothing.  Aside from the rogue planet, the unchanging fortress in its slow orbit, and the odd warbling of stars off in the distance (an effect of dark matter they were told in the briefing about it,) there is nothing of note.  The only thing that is out of the ordinary, is that the density of space is slightly higher in the area, but that could be due to the nebulae, dark matter, or both.

A quick glance in the direction of three-flight confirms that they are proceeding as ordered, and are also not detecting anything nor encountering anything.

1st Lt. Dempsey?s check of the spiritia meter reveals mixed results.  The area of space around the fortress has the normal ambient background levels of spiritia for space.  The station itself radiates only a slightly higher level of energy.  The area around the pinprick sees the spiritia meter jump rapidly off of the scale, and the pinprick itself burns out the sensor!

He pauses for a moment and remembers that the spiritia meter is designed for the average spiritia warfare specialist, and anima spiritia, such as Mylene and Basara would burn out the sensor as well.

As he turns to get a visual confirmation of the proximity of his wing-mates, he spots and extremely faint ribbon of oscillating dark-green spiritia energy just on the edge of his perception.  It looks like it is emanating from the fortress, and heading out into deep space.

As soon as he realizes that he saw something, as his focus is traversing towards his wing-mates, he focuses on where he saw it.

It is gone.

In brief contemplation, he surmises that he spotted it after staring at the spiritia-lacking console of his cockpit, and didn?t see it after looking at the bright spiritia released by his wing-mates.  Whatever it is, it could still be out there, he simply can?t see it as it?s hidden by comparatively stronger spiritia sources nearby.

Vick checked his now fryed Spiritia sensor: that was a very bad moment for that, just at the beguining of the mission. He make a note to himself to ask a technician back to base for a better spiritia meter in his fighter, if possible. He was about to say to M'juri that it was anegative on the sensor sweep, instinctly looking at his wing-leader, when he saw something: a faint ribbon of Spiritia energy, originating from the space station, and heading to outer-space. it was only for a second, and when he try to look at it a seccond time, it was already gone. Or more to say, fadded by the spiritia emanated by his wingmans. He look fast as his now unusable Spiritia sensors, then he activate his radio and pitch down his fighter, trying to get a better look by changing his point of view, and eliminating his team's spiritia out of his vision.

"Maam, i saw something strange, a Spirita ribbon beam of some sort, may could be an long range energy transfer, or whorst, some sort of spiritia communication form, i'm not sure. Moving to get a better view. Can someone do a spiritia sweep of bearing aaa/bbb/ccc for me? My spirita sensors looks damaged..."

Before 1st Lt. Dempsey gets a reply, he spots another faint energy ribbon.  Correction, he spots two faint energy ribbons.

He moves to activate a communications connection with the others, glancing out the canopy in their direction in the process.  He can?t see them.

He blinks, and then realizes that he can see them with his eyes, he merely can?t see their spiritia emanations.  As he tends to rely on his spiritia vision more than physical sight, they had ?disappeared? to him.

It takes him another moment to realize that they are inside of a vaguely spherical shape, matching the same colour and characteristics of the spiritia energy ribbons that he has been seeing in the area.  As he had been flying slightly ahead of the others in flight 1, he was outside of the field.

The radio crackles to life, with T?tul?s voice.  ?Oh my BEEP BEEP!  My BEEP arm BEEP hurts!  What the BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!  It BEEP just BEEP exploded in BEEP pain!

BEEP!?

Captain Cassel is suddenly overwhelmed by an intense headache.  His head is momentarily filled with the image of a giant bio-mechanical eye starring into his soul.

The others in flight 1 and 2 all have creepy feelings, as the small hairs all over their bodies stand on end.

A few long seconds later, Kavryn?s, Hemingway?s, T'tul?s, Cassel?s, Jung?s and Levi?s VFs are all violently shoved upwards and pushed downwards just as quickly.  With the sound of metal ripping, the Dorsal SES FAST packs are ripped off of their VF-22.

What?s most alarming is that as soon as they are separate from the VF, the FAST packs instantly disappear.  What?s more puzzling is that debris from the event, metal fragments, screws and so on, remain visible and float away in constantly changing trajectories.

The fortress is unchanged, and nothing else has changed in the area.

Vick saw with horror what happened. no more question: they undouptly know they where there. that was a direct attack and now they have to deffent themselves. He quickly pull the transformation lever to Battroid position, his two gunpods deployed in two diffent direction to cover a maximum of terrain and get a good look arround him to see if any enemy was there. then, he deploy the SES of his FAST Pack, and prepare a song. Nick send a radio comm to his leader; he realised afterward that his radio was still in laser mode and change-it after the communication was sended:

"Merde!!! Are-you okay Maam? No target in sight! I cover you! What is your orders?"

His head bounding, Zed fights to make sense of what just happened.  "Flight two, check in and withdraw," he says over the secure communication.  A quick glance at any damage reports has Zed very worried.  He maneuvers his damaged fighter back towards the withdrawal point for the black wraiths scheduled extraction.  This is not good.  Why do I feel like I've seen that face before?  What was that?

Rogue Planet ? Orbit

"Merde!!! Are-you okay Maam? No target in sight! I cover you! What is your orders?"

?Break and avoid!  Everyone to Battroid!  Circular formations with guns pointed outwards!? comes Major Kavryn?s reply over open radio.

Kavryn?s breach of radio silence piques 1st Lt. Levi?s attention.  He glances in her direction, and spots something similar to what 1st Lt. Dempsey had seen.

?What the heck?? he mutters to himself.  He immediately transforms to battroid mode, activating his SES boosters and aiming them in the general direction of flights one and two.  Concurrently he hums, building up a powerful spiritia energy to feed and be amplified by the thing in his throat.

He unleashes a powerful wave of spiritia energy that flings outwards like a shockwave from an unseen explosion.

His energy causes the energy ribbons seen by Dempsey to briefly become visible to all in a sparkling range of light blues and whites.  There are three ribbons in the area, and they connect to large spheres, spheres that completely surround flights 1 and 2, and one approaching flight 3.

Microseconds later the illuminated ribbons and spheres are stripped away, as the brunt of Levi?s spiritia shockwave whips through them.  With the spheres gone, 12 Black Samba Mk II* are revealed; 4 per sphere.  The spheres must have been some kind of uber-active stealth field.

As soon as the original members of the Black Wraiths see the Black Samba Mk 2, they remember way back when, mid afternoon on Monday, March 21st, 2050, when they were first introduced to the wonder and terrors of spiritia, they, or at least their astral selves, had seen the vehicles before.

3 of the Black Samba Mk II in each group are underneath and shadowing the movements of the VF-22 in flights 1 and 2.  They immediately spring to action, slamming fingers into the underbelly, and ripping out the two gun pods mounted there.  Cassel, Dempsey, Kavryn, Levi and T?tul, being more active than the others, all managed to avoid the attack.  Hemmingway and Jung lose both gun pods along with receiving minor damage.

As soon as they realize they are visible and that the majority of their prey avoided their attempted sneak attack, they drop what they are carrying; the dorsal FAST packs and the 4 recently taken gun pods.  They all fire powerful manoeuvring thrusters and begin rocketing away from the VFs, spreading further apart from each other in the process.

They each fire 38 dogfight missiles at each VF near them (Kavryn, Hemmingway, T?tul, Dempsey, Cassel, Jung and Levi.

The 4th Black Samba Mk II in each group remains unmoved as the others attack.  It has additional do?hickeys and antenna strapped to it?s back.

In flight 3, Larson barks at Shan, ?we?ve got 4 incoming!  What?re your orders?!?

*not that the UN Spacy has officially given them this name yet.??I imaged that they look something like this: http://www.macrossrpg.com/docs/index.php/Black_Samba_Mk_II  The Black Samba Mk II attacking the group have a launcher above both shoulders.
